Lone Survivor (Part Two)

(Part 2 of 2) When 25-year-old Heidi Firkus was tragically killed in 2010 after an intruder broke into her and her husband’s home, the community rallied around 27 year-old widower and survivor, Nicholas Firkus. Years would pass with no new leads…but behind the scenes the St. Paul Police Department had already been working with the FBI to uncover the truth…which eventually resulted in the finality of a cold case that had lasted 10+ years…

Lone Survivor (Part One)

(Part 1 of 2) The thought of marriage can be overwhelming…Even if you’re sure you’ve met the man or woman of your dreams, it’s a commitment that should never be taken lightly. You’ve got to be careful when choosing a forever partner…because a lot of people aren’t exactly who they say they are. 27-year-old Nicholas Firkus seemed like an innocent church goer- right alongside his wife Heidi. But after a black man wearing a hooded sweatshirt broke into their St. Paul, MN home, autho...

Felony Friday - Scarlet Letter

27-year-old Mariam Abdulrab was a bartender in Atlanta, GA with a “larger than life” spirit. She seemed to know just about everyone in town…the kind of social person who was happy to be friends with anyone she’d meet. After closing up the bar following a late night shift in the early morning hours of April 13th, 2021, Mariam headed home just like any other night…But little did she know that somewhere along the route of her 20 minute drive from Revery VR Bar to her driveway… someon...

Sling Blade

In May of 2019 a Pensacola, FL man’s badly decomposed body was discovered bound with duct tape and tightly wrapped in a tarp at the end of a desolate road next to an old mining sediment pond. The only potential clue left behind was a piece of scrap sheetrock, a bathroom tile, and a small length of orange nylon rope. All signs would inevitably point back to the man’s next-door neighbor. But would this quiet, good ‘ole Southern boy actually talk? And might there be more victims at the end...

Problem Child

On August 8, 2007, EMS arrived at a residential property in Esto, FL to render life saving aid to an unresponsive 7-year-old girl who had been found floating face down in a backyard pool. The child’s mother, Amanda Lewis, showed every sign of a parent in distress as her daughter was airlifted to the hospital. 7-year-old Adrianna Hutto tragically died and almost became another statistic in a long list of annual accidental drownings…that is, until a key witness came forward saying her death...

Felony Friday - Pride and Premeditation

Shots ring out from behind the busy Pensacola, FL Corner Store the evening of January 11th, 2015. A 26-year-old man is coldly gunned down over a $6 pill in an apparent drug deal gone bad. Detectives quickly identify their prime suspect, but it is readily apparent that the motive is much more complex than simple robbery. They bring him in for an interview and slowly realize they are either dealing with a hardened street thug, or the dumbest criminal in Florida state history.

We Will Keep the Original Format

I tried out a new format in the recent Felony Friday episode - and I received all of your thoughtful feedback, direct messages, phone calls, and saw the letters you sent your state senators. As a result, I will stick to the original scripted format we have had since the beginning of the show. We may occasionally go the "Debrief" style when discussing more current events or breaking down cases or theories behind-the-scenes outside of regular programming, but other than that, I will stay the co...

Felony Friday - TikTok Scarface

29-year-old Ali Abulaban had dreams of making it big in the entertainment industry. He amassed a respectable following on social media by creating comedy skits and by doing celebrity impersonations. His renditions of Tony Montana from the 1983 classic “Scarface” went viral- becoming his most popular content, by far. But over time, Ali’s ego began to grow even larger than his 940,000 follower fan-base on TikTok…and things would soon take a turn for the worse…

The former U.S. Marine and Gulf War Veteran was prepared for anything by his very nature - so his untimely death caught close friends and family off guard. Felony Friday - Knife Play

Owning “murder-belia,”- or memorabilia of famous killers such as original John Wayne Gacey artwork or prison letters from Charles Manson isn’t a crime. To each their own, right? Sure this sort of collector might be viewed as “strange” by the public, but should this sort of hobby be considered a red flag? Or is that just what the media wants us to think? 26-year-old Shaye Groves of Havant, England was one of these true-crime fanatics. According to the national headlines, she...

Felony Friday is Coming

Three of the four of us in the family we’re down with some type of aggressive stomach virus or flu the past several days so I’m playing catch up on very little rest. Please quit commenting and messaging me asking when the Felony Friday or Part two of House of Secrets will drop. They will be released the very second they are ready to go. Not a second later. Not a second earlier - believe it or not - as I am not yet capable of time travel (working on it though). Occasionally these things h...

Delays Into the Weekend

Our Felony Friday episode will come out a bit later in the weekend along with a huge full length two parter. My apologies for the delay. I have all of my equipment along and am nearing completion on everything.

Felony Friday - Gone Baby Gone

When you think of Florida, you might think of crime. But you also might picture the beautiful beaches of St. Petersburg. The city is a popular destination for tourists looking to soak up the sun. But beyond the resorts and all-you-can eat hors d’oeuvre menus, there’s a darker side to the sunny city. In March of 2023, a young mother was found brutally murdered in her new apartment. At the time, her family had no time to grieve… because the victim’s 2-year-old son had gone miss...

Felony Friday - 2 in 1,000

Canada’s justice system has a reputation for leniency…especially when it comes to murder. For better or for worse, the country is well known for reintegrating many violent criminals back into society. The approach is meant to have a compassionate focus on rehabilitation. While recidivism rates of violent criminals reoffending are low, what happens when they do reoffend? Over time, a middle-aged man named Christopher Ward Dunlop from Calgary, AB would become the poster child for this very ...

Lions stalk zebras in the savanna woodlands. Great white sharks stalk seals in the ocean. In a lot of ways, this savage way of life is what separates man from beast. In November of 2022, 33-year-old software engineer Zohreh Sadeghi had a stalker of her own. She too felt she was being hunted by a 38-year-old man named Ramin Khodakaramrezaei. She did every...

I Was Almost a School Shooter

In 1996, 17-year-old Aaron Stark of Denver, CO had made up his mind. He was going to become a school shooter. Before the days of Columbine, there weren’t many secure entrances or armed community services officers standing guard in American schools. In fact, it was relatively easy for a kid to bring a gun to school. Aaron had it all planned out. He knew exactly how he was going to get the weapon and in his mind, there was no turning back. But ultimately that is exactly what he did. We had a ...
