DTNS prepares for December

Hey all, Time for another weekly Wednesday update to give you an advanced look at what’s coming up for us on DTNS. As always HUGE THANKS for your continuing support of the show. HOLIDAY EPS. The week between Christmas and New Years is always a dead zone for tech news, so in the fine tradition of Buzz Out Loud and Tech News Today seasons past, DTNS will take the week off, but fill the week with special episodes. We’ll pre-record those eps ahead of time. Of course the one lots of you h...

Welcome aboard Justin Robert Young

Thank you. This audience never ceases to amaze me. We just passed the mark to bring Justin Robert Young on as a regular contributor. HUGE thanks to Chris who pledged enough to get us right up to 13K. I'll understand if you can't keep that up *every* month. Hopefully we get far enough beyond 13K it won't matter. And we're still cruising. I just got off the phone with Justin and he's psyched UP to bring more to the show. Having a regular contributors provides me with a little more stability an...

Pssst. Hangout next Tuesday

Hey early warning backers! I wanted to give you the heads up that after the show this Tuesday, 10/28, We'll be doing a Q&A, update the audience, hangout right after we record the show. If you don't normally listen live, the show is at 1:30 Pacific, ends at 2, and we're usually posted by 2:15 or 2:30. So we'll likely start the post show hangout after Tom runs upstairs and gets some tea, around 2:30. Keep an eye on Twitter to join or just head to diamondclub.tv to watch. Thanks again for ...

Shhhhhh. Today's Announcement SPOILER

Hello "early warning" level Patrons! As always deep thanks for your amazing support. I hope DTNS is continuing to deliver the value you expect. We're incredibly excited to have Patrick Beja on board as a regular contributor. And I wanted to give you a heads up that we're aiming to have another regular contributor on board as well. Our hope is to create a stable of regular guest co-hosts like this and be able to bring on more day of guests around particular topics when appropriate. With tha...

Back in the saddle

Yesterday Jennie and I met to talk about things for the future of DTNS. We're going to set a new Patreon level for another added contributor similar to Patrick Beja. Not saying who yet because we have a couple options (No, none of them are Molly, sorry). But look for that info soon. I've also asked Jennie to start working on improving the video in ways that won't cost us anything. I'd like to spend more money on people contributing to the show, which would mean increasing the funding we'd need...

Observations: Using a SIM card abroad

Hey all, I'm back and can't wait to get back to the show. I recorded this first episode of an informal audio show just as a bonus for supporters here. Thanks for all your help and support keeping the show going! In this 'show' I talk a little about my trip and mostly about my experience using a SIM card from JTGlobal.com. Hope its helpful or at least interesting. Cheers, Tom

Bienvenue Patrick Beja!

Jennie and I are extremely excited to announces that starting mid-September, Patrick Beja will join us as a weekly co-host and contributor to Daily Tech News Show. This is the kind of thing we want to continue to do to develop the show as it grows. Patrick brings a wealth of experience in podcasting and tech, as well as a French perspective which is sorely lacking in me. If you haven't looked at Patrick's French language shows, drop by View Post

Summer time

It’s been an exceptional half year for Daily Tech News Show. In fact, it’s been the only half year ever for Daily Tech news Show. But the fact that it made it to a half year is thanks to you. That is never lost on me. This note is part of my continuing efforts to give you a little early taste of what we’re up to. Jennie and I had a lovely meeting over coffee and a burger last week before ComicCon and went over a few things. 1.) I will be taking my first vacation. As you are my bosses, ...

Understand Net Neutrality, Peering and the Internet itself!

John Milburn is a nuclear physicist and has been using the Internet since before it was called the Internet. He's also helped build networks in Korea and understands how peering works from the inside. He was kind enough to share an hour and a quarter to walk us through why the disputes between Netflix, Cogent, Comcast, Verizon and others are happening. We also make a fair attempt to identify what actually could be done to make things work better for the consumer in the US. The answer is not net ...

DTNS Update 1 from Jennie

This is the first of what we hope will be a regular update from producer Jennie Josephson. It looks ahead at DTNS the next week, gives you some of her thoughts on some of the stories we've seen in the course of putting together the show and more. Jennie is a great storyteller, and I encouraged her to do this to give Patrons a little more value for value and insight into what makes the show tick. Hope you enjoy and let us know what you think!!

Uh... sadly no 20K yet

So, someone thought it would be fun to test the Patreon system by pledging 42 million. GOod for us, the system works and the pledge was kicked out. However it did trigger the goal email for $20K. Sadly that means *some* of you only saw the email saying we met our $20,000 goal. We didn't. Still a ways to go before we hit that. However we are still rising and hoping to hit that goal eventually. In the meantime, we're cooking up a few announcement for June, based on what we DO have coming in. W...

What's cooking

Jennie and I had an excellent talk yesterday after the show about stuff coming up. Here's a sneak peek Peering Special - We've identified some guests we want to go after and figured out the scope of the show. We essentially want to answer the question "What was going on with Netflix and Comcast?" and give everyone a clearer idea of how the Internet works on the back-end. Contributors? - Not much to say here but we're toying with the idea of having people provide some kind of field reports or ...
