Side note, just looking for a quick show of hands: How useful would you find offline support? I'm not working on this right now, nor will I be in the foreseeable future, but I'm curious to know.
EDIT: To be clear, this poll does not affect the current roadmap, nor the feature set for the initial release.

Hello everyone! As we enter the holiday season, I just wanted to let you know that the frequency of longer, technical updates, like the last post I made, will come down a bit during the holidays, and then pick back up early January. Those posts take a good bit of time, and I'd like to focus on development wherever I can during the holidays. I'll be doing some work-related travel, as well as spending time with family, of course, so I need to be strategic with where I spend my time.
That's...

One of the challenges of developing LegendKeeper is handling complexity. Rather than the technological complexity of coding, I mean complexity that is exposed to the user via the interface. A world-building tool, I think, naturally leans towards high complexity. Just off the top of my head, you have spatial organization via maps, positioning and management of map pins and the things they link to, categorical organization via the wiki, contextual text manipulation via the editor, etc. There's a l...

Hey there, Patrons! Just wanted to give a quick (LOL JK) update on the status of LegendKeeper. Last week I did a week-long code-a-palooza during Thanksgiving break. I was able to clock in 10-12 hours a day of coding on LK, which was AWESOME and sometimes brain-melting.
First off, I've officially deployed a staging build of LegendKeeper to the interwebs.
In a software project, you have a few "environments" for your application. Usually these are "Development", "Staging", ...

As per my second Patreon goal, I've been scouring the web for mapmakers to seed the LegendKeeper app with great content to start your world-building adventures off right. I'm proud to announce that two incredibly talented map makers, 2-Minute Table Top and Milby's Maps, have graciously offered a selection of maps that will be ready to go, alr...

Ahoy! As I'm nearing the release of LegendKeeper, I want to know more about what you're looking for in the platform. I've created a survey about features, pricing, etc, and I'd love to get your feedback! Please fill out at your leisure; it would be super helpful!! Thank you so much for your continued support!

This is one of those weeks where things are kinda quiet and there's not much tangible stuff to talk about. This weekend I tackled a lot of API related stuff to get ready for launch. A few security flaws to mop up, I added a role-based security system to all worlds (to support, for example, Admins, Editors, Players, Viewers, etc), I redesigned the way your world's content is indexed in the search engine, and also blacklisted every API endpoint and then went through each one implementing and doubl...

LADIES AND GENTS, we are at $ 4 DIGITS $. I am consistently floored by the excitement for LegendKeeper, and it continually fuels my obsession with the project. Thank you so much for everything! I have already opened up lines of communication with a few map makers to commission general purpose maps, so that when you log in to LegendKeeper on Day One, you'll have some awesome maps ready to be used with your world.

Hey y'all! I thought I would check in and give a little update.
I've been working on what I've dubbed API 2.0. For those of you unfamiliar, an API, or application programming interface, is a set of tools with which to build an application. The API is what allows the LegendKeeper client, which runs in your browser, to communicate with its brain, the LegendKeeper server(s). Like I said in a previous post, API 1.0 was made when LegendKeeper was more of a personal toy. When this project got ...

I finally got around to buying Wonderdraft! I wanted know what the workflow between Wonderdraft and LegendKeeper would feel like. Unsurprisingly, it was a good experience. :D Wonderdraft is really awesome, and you should go support Megasploot over at https://www.patreon.com/megasploot/ and www.wonderdraft.net
I'm not a terribly good mapmaker, but being able to make maps in WD and shoot them over to LK seems like ...

The last world-building/question posts got some fun responses, and I really enjoyed everyone's creativity and willingness to share. I figured I'd pose a new question: What mysterious things dwell in the forgotten corners of your world? Whether it's a hermit with a sordid past, an ancient beast that long lay dreaming on a distant planet, or a burial site from ruined city, what mysteries are out there waiting to be uncovered by the denizens of your fictional universe?
I kn...

First, thank you for your continuing support! I can't believe we've surpassed $900!! If we hit $1000, I will reach out to some talented map makers and commission some maps that will come with new LegendKeeper accounts so you can hit the ground running with your world-building.
It's been a bit so I just wanted to make a quick blurb. Last week I talked about creating a robust permission system. It's a pretty big task and I'm still working on it! In this time I've found some great tools for...

So what am I working on right now?
First off; a UI redesign and new logo are in the works! I've got an insanely talented designer helping me out with this--I'll be revealing more on that when the whole branding package is ready. I'm also putting the finishing touches on the new text editor, which I'm beyond stoked about. I actually don't want to share too much about it because... Well, it'll just be a surprise. Sorry for all the teases, but LegendKeeper is at a sensitive stage...

Dev update: Happy weekend everyone! Just wanted to clue you in on what I'm up to lately. In LegendKeeper, you'll be spending a lot of your time creating and editing text content, so it's critical that using the text editor is a great experience. The editor you've seen in demo vids was pretty good, but was always a placeholder waiting for a more robust implementation. That particular implementation was ultra-hostile to mobile, especially Android, and had some unfortunate performa...

I've mostly been working on back-end stuff the past few days, so I don't have much in the way of new visuals, but I thought I'd share something neat. LegendKeeper is a ways out from being usable on small screens or portrait orientation, but it's actually pretty damn functional in landscape on a decently-sized tablet. I'm excited to further iterate on the idea, because honestly it's really nice to use on tablet. It's got a few janky things here and there, but nothing a little TLC won't fix....

I'm still ironing out some bugs with it, but here's the gist: I don't think map pins, which remain a constant size regardless of your map's zoom level, are always the best representation of content. Instead, if you want an article link to be scaled relative to your zoom level, you can place a Token as a link. Tokens will get smaller as you zoom away, and larger as you zoom in. Additionally, they'...

How much will LegendKeeper cost when it comes out of beta?
We're still figuring this out. Pricing a consumer service is hard; we want LK to be accessible to as many people as possible, while ensuring the longevity of the service.
Is there pre-made content I can use for LegendKeeper, like the 5E SRD or dungeon maps?
Not yet, but LK was built from the ground up with this functionality in mind. Stay tuned!

I finally got the intro (+ thank you video) up! Thank you so much for your support, and a huge thank you to Ross McConnell from 2-Minute Tabletop and Dan Sorenson from OriginWorlds.com for providing some really awesome maps to demonstrate the product with. The maps worked amazingly, and are all incredibly beautiful.

Hey y'all, this update is more technical in nature. I'm coding while simultaneously working on the intro video--No visually striking update for you yet, but I figured I'd make a technical post in the meantime.
This post will dive deep into features of a search engine called Elasticsearch, so if you don't care about that, you might be bored out of your mind! My next public post will have som...

What!? Y'all, I haven't even finished the introduction video yet... It's been two days! I'm so excited to be working on a project that is generating this much excitement.
Well, in the meantime, what have I been tworkin' on?

The pin manager you can see in the video on the front page is pretty minimal and only supports linking to Places, but I want to be able to link to anything from a map. ...

Wow, the last 24 hours has been absolutely incredible. The outpouring of support has been nuts, and I'm so excited to buckle down and code the heckin heck out of the rest of LegendKeeper. Now that the hype train is calming down, I figured this would be a good time to talk about stuff!
First off, please join the LegendKeeper community on Discord! We are a lively and friendly bunch, and we've got a lot of great world-building and tabletop RPG discussion going on: 2018-09-18 01:08:40 +0000 UTC

I just want to give a big shout out to everyone who showed their support today, whether that was on here, Reddit, or Discord. After this huge outpouring of good vibes, I'm excited to buckle down and push LegendKeeper over the finish line. I've got a ton of cool stuff in store, but now I'm focusing on getting the core features running smooth and bug free.
Future posts from me will have more substance, but for now I just wanted to say thank you.
