My dear friends,
Welcome to October! Always been my favorite month, I loved autumn long before a certain coffee roaster made that one overly sugary drink. To be fair, as a kid I loved October because it was the month of my birthday. Growing up in places when the seasons really started to change in October always made the fall feel charged with potential and promise.
These days, October is special for another reason: Inktober. Started by Jake Parker, Inktober has grown ...

My wonderful patrons,
today I have for you a project spanning the concept art through to the finished project. I was commissioned by a friend to do one of my pinups involving a duo I've explored a few times already: a spinosaurus and a spearfisher woman.
I really liked the idea in the last concept sketch. Maybe I'll actually draw it one day...

Hello wonderful patrons,
Sorry for the radio silence recently. The wife and our house-panther moved to a new apt over the weekend and we have been very busy and very exhausted. As soon as my studio is finished I'll give you guys a tour.
I thought i'd share some of the concept sketches for a big commission I'm working on right now for the amazing Stoke's Nature Center in Logan, Utah. The project consists of 5 panels covering life and history of the Logan Ca...

I love finding images that will make interesting backgrounds. I change them out at least once a month. They are almost always art by people I admire and subjects I obsess over, usually landing on either Star Wars or paleoart. It isn't just a landing page or conversation piece for anyone that might see it, but something that fits the mood I'm in, or is a achieving something artistically that I aspire to.
Sometimes throughout the day I'll find I don't need my computer for my current...

HI guys! very excited and nervous to share with you my first video. It looks like the coloring page for September is going to be a ceratopsid! YAY!
figured I would kill two stones with one bird and show you my sketchy sketchy style of working out a pose and coming up with the composition that will become the next coloring page!
This is one of my first attempts at making a video so it's pretty lousy. I think they'll get better but please leave me comments about what you...

Hello my fantastic friends!
I had promised you a video proces and I meant to record myself painting the Terror-bird rider. I am ashamed to say that rendering that image, with the light and pallet I had intended proved to be more difficult than I had thought.
What I suspected would be a simple matter of applying flat color in a graphic and stylized way ended up being much more challenging. There were many false starts and sudden changes in color. I doubt there would have been...

Very special instalment of Rage Raptors for you today. I got involved in a conversation with someone last night. My heart was pounding in my ears, my hands were shaking and I was starting to see red. So I turned up some music took out my tablet and started another Rage Raptor.
I'm not going to share the story with anyone except you guys, these prices are just for me, my anger fuels the idea and eventually I work on it long enough to transcend the moment and get lost in the a...

Hello my amazing Patrons!
I've got some more art for your eyeballs. The mighty Titanis walleri or "terror bird" in the common tongue. As big as 8ft tall, up to 300lbs, heavy, deep beaks, large feet on powerful legs, terror is right! For me, I can't help but think of what these animals looked like, sounded like and how they hunted. And sometimes I wonder what it was like to ride one!
I going to be coloring it this week, thinking of uploading a series of videos of how I ...

and somehow I ended up with a few pages of people riding extinct megafauna. I know, not supring.
Well, I needed to draw an animal for this other project of mine, more on that later, and so I started messing around in photoshop. Sometimes it's easier for me to get a lot down quickly if I work digitally. Anyway I've had this itch to draw people riding animals. and not just horses and elk but all kinds of things.
I'm really happy with the archer on the terror bird, Titani...

I recently rewatched Tartakovsky's Primal yesterday for some good old fashioned Saturday morning cartoonage. I was inspired again, as I was upon first watching it to draw this duo, Fang and Spear, in my own style.
I decided to draw "Spear" more after myself then a huge muscular hunk. I think the appeal of a show like this is really to imagine oneself as a "caveman" or early human living in a mythical, prehistoric place and befriending a Tyrannosaur that becomes your companion and steed....

Hello marvelous patrons!
Behold, the first step-by-step of my process. This one is very broad. It's a basic overview of my process that shows generally how I arrive at a finished reconstruction. It's also what I had available at the moment. In the future, I will start making unique pieces for demo purposes and explain a lot more of my methods in photoshop and traditionally. Hope you Like it! Don't be afraid to comment and tell me what you'd like me to talk about next!

Hey fantastic patrons! Happy Wednesday, hope you all are doing well. I'm starting to to think about next month's Coloring Page and I could use some input for you guys. The image will be a single or pair of animals on a black background. A "spot illustration." I've got the itch to do a few different types of animals so thought it might be fun to get you all to weigh in on what sounds fun.
Try to cast your vote by the end of the month if possible!

Thought I'd give you guys more then two pages this time. Here are a bunch of pages that came into being toward the end of May, early June and I was coming to terms with the new normal the pandemic had brought us to and beginning to think about doing freelance full time instead of returning to the day job. You guys are a BIG part of me being able to do this. Thank you.

Hello my wonderful patrons! As some of you may have seen, I produced this study of dilophosaurus recently after watching Brian Engh's demo. If you like What i'm doing you should definitely check him out.
Anyway, THIS ladies and gentlesaurs, is the first sticker for the year. I'll be producing them quarterly (i hope!) since they are a bit more involved, so those of you who are at the $10 tier will be guaranteed 4 of these a year. Everyone else, I'll be offering them to you guys for...

These are two of the more refined iterations on this theme. Often when I worked retail and encountered rude or entitled condescending customers, I'd take out my frustration by drawing a person that somewhat resembles them being violently dismembered by a predatory Dinosaur (sometimes even a herbivore like Styracosaurus, you get the idea.)
Before that, drawing people being attacked was a why I coped with bullying. As my grasp of human anatomy grew, it became more and more satisfyin...
