Why did I work so hard putting together a fake alchemical book illustration for a background piece that's going to be 60% covered up by characters and speech bubbles!!!! Maybe I'll turn it into a print eventually haha 💀💦
I admittedly have a huge weakness for researching weird magical science allegorical illustrations... it's too cool! I might as well cram in as much weird imagery as possible to be self-indulgent!!

I had a chance to commission Meltow (@meltow_ on twitter) to draw Calbraith because they draw extremely beautiful exhausted older men and I was unable to stop myself!!! For the occasion I put together a self-indulgent character sheet for him... idk if there's really any new information here but maybe it'll be fun to see it all together in one place.

Around this time last year I decided I wanted to start moving over to Clip Studio and it's been a rough but rewarding process. This has been my THIRD TIME trying to get into Manga/Clip Studio, the learning curve has been really steep... but this time it definitely stuck!!! I'm in it now, I'm finally a FAN OF CLIP STUDIO 🎉

I needed to root through old files (why do I never keep these in a centralized folder aaa) and found my first sketch of these characters' finalized designs! I'm not sure if their names have been mentioned anywhere yet but they're Richard Abermarle (left) and Winter (right).
I'm still fond of this sketch, I think it came out nice!!!!

Drawing this made me go back and revisit a bunch of 90's bands haha— DID YOU KNOW GARBAGE RELEASED AN ALBUM THIS YEAR???? They wrote a song that I assume is based on the "inside you are two wolves" meme which is the best thing I learned this week

Over the weekend an edited Ryoko Kui (author of Delicious in Dungeon) sketchbook page circulated around and Ananth and I spent Too Much Time brainstorming which Barbarous characters would own which vintage band tees. The pencils for a background element in chapter 6 ... I think like 60% of it will be covered up by foreground elements and text bubbles haha - SO I WANTED TO SHARE IT HERE!!! Also I got to play with Photoshop's reflect pen tool, which was an extra treat!

This week was wild, but it feels like something I should have done when I was going to school for animation???? We were shown an onion-skin slideshow of a body moving frame by frame with a certain amount of time allotted for each frame. The final outcomes came out really cool looking imo??
I dug out some colored pencils for this exercise but ultimately wasn’t crazy with how the final line quality came out. Back to colored ballpoint pens for me ✏️➰🖊

‼️ Heads up: this one is all nude life-drawing models!!
Normally life drawing resources online have either clothed models or models in bodysuits, but this week was used all nude photos! It was fun, I recall having a lot of life drawing sessions in college with older models and it stood out to me as really enjoyable. Talking to the rest of the group it sounds like that is NOT the average experience! I wonder where the life drawing modeling was advertised around my college town??
