Chapter 23 is eight hours of work. I had a completely different chapter loaded up but I suddenly saw a scene and felt a deep need to change my course. Normally I would write this and then step back from it for a day to clear my mind. I would then reread it with that clear mind and see where it doesn't flow well or make sense. It's funny how when your in the mindset of a scene you can't see obvious issues.
I am pushing myself to write more concise the first pass. This means 10k words t...

The morning was heavy with dew as he stood in a clearing of dead grass surrounded by brush and gnarled trees.
“Are we really going to do this every morning?” Tavis asked as Ayawa walked around Gedris and kicked the back of her foot.
“Your feet are too far apart,” Ayawa scolded. “Now assume the double guard position.”
Gedris stood before them in pants and shirt with a knife in each hand. She shifted her pose to bring her hands to her side w...

I was struggling to get two chapters ahead to add some value to the patreon. I have some extra stuff I didn't use I am going to post as well. I am working on the next Tavis Ayawa chapter now. It seems like this a full time job these days.

Thayle sat on a log wrapped in nothing but a towel. She had begun to bathe using the water they had brought from Avashire. When that started to run low, Gersius produced a bucket and offered to get more from the river below so she could wash her hair. Now she waited in silence for him to return while Lilly hovered overhead.
Gersius stumbled a few times as he struggled his way up the slope from the river. The ground was muddy and overgrown, making the job treachero...

I was wondering if this new chapter made more sense? It has Ayawa on watch and tired. It still plays out the same way but not because she was being stupid. It also explains how the assassins found them.

The morning air was cold and heavy with a fog that blanketed the dew-laden ground. The domain of the night was just beginning to surrender to the first light of the sun as it neared its appearance on the horizon.
They had camped in a clearing inside a dense knot of trees, bedding down for the night beside old trunks and fallen branches. The floor was littered with generations of fallen leaves and delicate ferns.
Tavis and Gedris slept soun...

I had a lot of trouble with this chapter. It has a strongly emotional and controversial theme to it. I always worry I will offend when I write chapters like this, but these are what makes good stories. I would like to know if you think the chapter is going to far. I am trying to portray that Ayawa is haunted by a past she lost to become who she is, and Gedris is reminding her of it. This is making her a little emotional so to speak. It will all become more clear in latter chapters but I...

The morning air was cold, and fog blanketed the ground. All three of them slept soundly as the distant horizon started to glow with the first rays of the sun.
They were exhausted and after Tavis had seen nothing for miles they had risked another night with nobody on watch.
Ayawa shifted slightly on his chest, and his arm pulled around her firmly.
The land around them was quiet and calm as the dark shapes moved in. All at once, there was a sudden...

Gersius held Thayle to his chest and stroked the back of her head. They both sat in the saddle on Lilly's back as she picked her way down what looked like a path. The river was someplace to the left, and she kept looking out over the canopy of leaves to get her bearings.
He pressed her close as she trembled in his arms, fearful of what she had done. He knew what was going on in her mind. He didn't share a link with her strong enough to read it, but he knew al...

Ayawa sighed as the sun began to brighten the morning sky. They had ridden well into the night and camped under some trees well off the road. Tavis was sound asleep while she lay to his left with her arm over his chest. She hated the thought of having to be on the move, but they had two last stops to make. It had been three days since they parted with Ivers. Since then they had sent four more men north to Gersius.
Thankfully, all of the men had lived on isolated far...

Gersius awoke to find himself sleeping in Thayles lap. He struggled to get up and lift his head to look around.
The little bit of sky he could see above was black and dotted with stars. Around him was a densely overgrown forest, thick with vines and brush. The trees towered up in straight reddish brown trunks whose lowest branches were easily fifty feet up.
It took him a moment to realize it was night as the dragon sight made it appear to be day. He blinked ...

“Why would I know that?” Lilly demanded.
“I do not know. Sometimes you seem to understand completely and other times I have no idea what your thinking,” Gersius replied with a stern tone.
“I am a dragon. I know a very little about you rodents from my mother. She told us to stay away from you and now I can see why, your impossible!”
“Lilly I am trying to guide you through human interaction so you can learn our ways in safety. But you refuse to b...

Unfortunately I can't even get people to view this page, let alone think of supporting it. Considering how many rave reviews I have this seems disappointing. I had hoped to reach the $20 mark by now so I could setup the website.
I guess there is no choice. I am going to have to gate content behind the patreon paywall. This is what I see all the big writers with large patreons doing. They post chapters to patreons first and release them to the general public a week or two later. I will ...

The new website will be up just as soon as we hit the $20 goal. This will be enough to pay for all the things I need and to pay royalroad for providing such a wonderful site to list my story on. I am looking forward to the very first donator. I feel like I need to open a bottle of champagne when that happens. Assuming I could afford it! ha!
I want to call myself a starving artist but I learned recently that authors aren't considered artists. Were just authors and then inside the ...

I have of course been trying to think of a reward to give my donators. What I have so far is this.
I will write a one book story in my world about another character, or part of the lore. This book will only be available to donators UNTIL I write a second book. Then the first one will go up to the public and the second book will be the special donator one. I will keep doing this so there is always a book that only donators can read. It wont be part of the main story line, but i...

I suppose it was silly of me to think I will put up a patreon and it will be flooded with people! Ha!
I know this will take time and grow slowly, I am just excited at the prospect of turning writing into my career. I love to tell my story and I have other stories I want to tell. So while I know I can't put my hopes in this, I can still dream that maybe, just maybe I will be able to make sharing my stories my income as well. Dare to dream right?
