In a flash of green, Heather arrived in the yard beside Frank, who looked surprised to see her. She quickly informed him and Quinny about the others even as Breanne struggled to carry Blackbast into the yard.
“I don’t know that I can carry her much further,” Breanne gasped and set Blackbast down. “It is extremely difficult to spectral enough to fly while being solid enough to carry someone.”
“You explained it once before,” Heather reminded as Blackbast glared at her....

Gersius knelt in prayer before the simple altar dedicated to Balisha. He was deeply disturbed that an army was approaching with the publicly stated goal of killing Lilly. He was ever more upset that they were more casualties of the lies spun by the Father Abbot. These people believed that what happened in the city of Whiteford was his and Lilly's fault. All the deaths that occurred in her escape were used to rally people to a cry of revenge. He prayed for guidance and asked for a way to turn ...

Heather raced down the carpeted hall, passing under the moonlight that streamed in through tall windows. She tried not to hear the crashing and clattering going on in the distance and focused on finding the castle's mistress, Lydia Valrossa. It pained her to leave her friends behind, but there was no time to waste. Lydia was working a terrible ritual and needed to be stopped now. She was certain this castle would be protected like her tower was and readied for the defenses.
She wasn't s...

“This is a waste of time,” she grumbled as they waited in a dark barn. “What kind of knights skulk in the shadows?”
“The kind that wants to minimize casualties,” Jessivel replied as he turned on Alayse. “You do remember that Gersius wants us to keep the deaths to a minimum?”
“He has won the empire and now leads a massive army,” Alayse countered. “Why is he so careful to flex his might?”
It was the same old argument, one that had repeated itself ever s...

Sorry the chapter is late, I have several projects in the works and I am struggling to keep up.
I am currently working on Heather the necromancer and the Dragon Knight prophecy. I am also working on rewriting both of those stories . Thus far i have updated about half of book 1 for the Dragon Knight, and the first six chapters of heather. I am trying to prep book one of the dragon knight for an amazon release. I have been tampering with a chapter two for the Breanne origin st...

“She's gone,” Legeis called from the doorway where he stood watch in his suit of armor.
“We can worry about this later,” Blackbast growled. “Hurry inside and tell Umtha to remain hidden until we come for her.”
Heather grumbled before climbing into the palanquin and vanishing through the door. Blackbast waited a moment, then turned of Breanne in a huff.
“Did you know anything about this?” she asked.
“Me?” Breanne remarked and shook her head. “I had...

Sorry for the delay in postings.
The fact is I have the one problem every writer who tries to focus dreads. I have been put in a position where I have to write in small short spans. I can no longer sit down for hours to work over a chapter. I write a paragraph then have to stop, and come back hours later to write another. This leads to fragmented chapters I am never happy with, and a loss of focus as I forget where I wanted to go with a particular story.
As many of you know I have...

Heather glared across the long table at the sultry woman who smiled over a glass of wine. They were theoretically trapped and at her mercy, but Heather saw no real danger. This woman was playing with fire if she thought Heather would let her friends be pushed around. With a snap of her finger, the scythe vanished in a puff of black smoke.
“What are you doing?” Blackbast asked as Heather relaxed her stance.
“We have been invited to dinner,” she replied with a smile. “I wo...

The chamber doors swung open, and Thayle stormed in with Lilly following close behind. Sarah and Gersius looked up in confusion as they felt the frustration Thayle was radiating while Lilly felt confused and hurt.
“Did something go wrong?” Sarah asked as Thayle arrived before them.
“I will tell you something went wrong,” Thayle gripped. “Lilly embarrassed me like never before.”
Lilly ran to Gersius, who wrapped her in a hug and held tightly as Thayle let out a de...

“How could it be gone?” Heather asked as she paced beside the barn staring at the empty space.
“It was already gone when I got here,” Legeis added and stood in his armor. “I didn’t see anybody here.”
“Who would even want to take it?” Quinny asked as Frank clawed at the earth where it once rested.
“I don’t know, pirates or something,” Heather replied in exasperation.
“I doubt it was pirates,” Frank said as he stood and looked into the woods b...

His footsteps echoed on the cobbles that made up the broad palace road. All around him was the world of humanity bustling in a never-ending hurry to get things done. It was their curse, a cruel fate to have so little time that drove them ever onward to build and create. He had heard their scholars debate the nature of mankind and describe it as a quest to leave a memory behind. Dragons had no such need for memories. They lived so long and cared so little for what came after. There was an almo...

They stood in the darkened street staring up at the castle that loomed over the town like a gargoyle ready to pounce. The mist that permeated the graveyard seemed to follow them and now curled about the dark corners of the town. A distant howl alerted them to the presence of a wolf as dark clouds began to drift the night sky.
“Somebody spent a lot of points on ambiance,” Breanne said as they looked around. “This whole town reeks of a monster story.

Lilly picked up the sword that seemed out of place among the other weapons. Compared to Thayle's, Gersius's, or even Sarah's sword, the fang blade of Balisha looked awkward. She gave it a few practiced swings believing it should be unbalanced, yet it felt perfect in her hand. It was strange to use a sword when her dragon form could tear stone, but this sword saved her life.
Thinking back to that moment, she remembered what her mother said about hiding something. Why had that memory come...

Heather closed the book and added it to the pile of those she had devoured. The magical room was beginning to feel small, and she longed to spend some time in the sunlight. For five days, they had traveled, and Heather spent most of that time studying spells, lore, and magical principles.
Over the course of those days, they traveled out of the desert and into barren hills. Now, at last, the landscape was starting to change, and trees were appearing in clumps in the low areas. Every morn...

“You are far too tense,” Thayle teased as she rubbed his scaled chest. She sat astride his waist with her tail entwined with his. Her hands worked on the powerful blue scales of his torso. In his hybrid dragon form, Gersius was a giant of a man with scales like metal that flexed over powerful muscles. She felt such an intense hunger to see this form, a hunger shared by her wives. Lilly and Sarah had taken their fill of his love and gone to relax in one of the garden terraces, leaving him ...

The sun was in the dawn position when Heather stumbled onto the ship's deck with Webster in tow. The others had returned hours ago and told Blackbast of all that happened the night before. The cat woman agreed with Quinny that a mimic could not be so big under normal circumstances. However, she had seen enough to know that the rules could and often were broken. This statement was made with a sideways glance at Heather. Blackbast went on to explain that what she didn't understand was why it ha...

Thayle smiled as Lilly spun with her in the dance, the two women locking eyes as well as arms. Lilly so loved to dance, and her aura glowed with pleasure as they stepped around one another. Thayle could feel Lilly over the bind as she relished the moment, especially the music. It was one of those human things that Lilly had no concept of until she first heard it all those weeks ago. Thayle began to wonder what Lilly would do if she heard a proper orchestra causing Lilly to look confused.

The bats produced a shrill wail as they flew in every direction. Heather watched as they dispersed about the ship and wondered what use a cloud of bats was. Surely they were nothing more than an annoyance that was easily ignored.
“That's all it does?” Frank asked as he scratched at his head. Heather noted the nervous tick and wanted to laugh to see him scratching at the armored helm. Frank always seemed to be Frank, no matter the place or circumstances. She was grateful for that con...

The sun moved across the sky, coming to rest low on the horizon, causing rays of red to tint the heavens. Around them, the glass looked black in the dim light, an endless sea of oblivion as the cutter raced across its featureless surface. A breeze swept the deck, wafting away the tendrils of smoke from its burned surface. The single large sail bulged in the breeze, carrying the ship toward the endless horizon with great speed.
Milling about the deck was an improvised crew of stunned pla...

“What are you fools doing?” Mingfe scolded as she arrived on the back of Shadros.
“We are teaching our broodlings how to fly,” Sarah answered.
Mingfe urged Shadros closer as she tried to identify the two small dragons. “Half the kingdom thinks the city is under attack because of you!”
“Oh dear, I had assumed they would recognize us,” Sarah exclaimed.
“You should have told somebody before circling the city for an hour!” the dark skin woman scolded.

Gersius paced in an open field as Sarah towered overhead. He listened as Ayawa defended Lilly's choice to duel the southern woman and reiterated how well it ended.
“She could have been killed,” Thayle argued and took Lilly’s hands. “Sweetheart, you are part of a family now. What did you think we would do if they killed or captured you?”

Gedris listened as Ayawa paced and lectured Lilly on the foolishness of her actions. The meeting ended with an agreement to return in three days for the duel. Lilly was determined to face the woman and defeat her, but Ayawa was confident she could not. Blackbast led them into a vast hall of marble floors and walls. It opened into a ground chamber that soared twenty meters up. It was all of stone and marble and lit by magical lights. Books were everywhere, lying on tables, stacked on shelves, and piled on the floor.
The whole space looked like a gothic city library, complete with statues of leering gargoyles. The floors were a pinkish marble, and the walls were cut from the red rock itself. The shelves and furniture were made of sandy-...
