The desert biome

We're almost in LA, almost.

If it wasn't for the engine overheating issues, we'd be even more almost there. We've stopped in Port San Luis to ask for help - In our typical fashion, creeped in at night, emerged from the fog.

The landscape has changed from the lush forestful coasts of British-Columbia, to the arid dust dunes of California.

Second Officers, the Oquonie stickers (and other secret gifts)  have been shipped out, expect them soon.

Episode 9: Living in San Francisco on a sailboat

This is how we spent our time in San Francisco.

We left the city a bit later than we were supposed to because of the windvane, we really needed to go see it. So happy we went, now we have a secondary self-steering system on Pino! It looks amazing and we can't wait to get it working.

Thank you so much Sintecta for helping us bring the windvane back to our boat!

More on that soon! Now we're leaving for Los Angeles, hopefully we can make it in time for IndieCade.

Making bread with beer

Enjoy our second capsule :)

Ingredients:

2 cups of self-rising flour
1 can of beer
3 tbsp of sugar

You can make your own self-rising flour by using regular all purpose flour and adding 1 1/2 tsp of baking powder and 1/4 tsp of salt for every cup.

If you have a craft beer that has live yeast sediment at the bottom of the bottle you don't even need self-rising flour or any additives. All you do is add the beer plus the sugar.

Recipe:
Preheat your oven at ...

Episode 8: Sailing from Vancouver to San Francisco

We did it!!

We sailed from Vancouver to San Francisco! Not bad for people who didn't know how to sail just 6 months ago! We made 2 stops, one in Newport OR and the other in Fort Bragg CA. We had a great time, buddy boated with our friends from SV Essencia for the first leg of the trip and went solo for the rest of the way. We learned a lot, broke some stuff... RIP Gennaker and auto-helm.

Let us know what you think about our latest video!

Thank you so much for keeping up with...

Markle Progress

We are settling nicely into a working routine, everyday we row to shore to a cafe to work on Markle. We found a style we liked and now things are moving forward!

To put it simply, Markle is about planning, and in some strange way, is also about programming. The main way to move about the world is to plan a sequence of actions(a program) and pressing "run". We can't say much more for now, but we should have more gameplay videos in our upcoming video diaries.

We're here.

We made it so San Francisco, to think we didn't know how to sail just 6 months ago.

We sailed 700nm, in heavy fog and cold, through pods of whales and high seas. We rounded the dreaded Cape Mendocino with ease, and cautiously crossed the bars to Newport, Fort Bragg and San Francisco. The trip cost us our Gennaker, torn to shreds by gusting winds. Our auto-pilot also died 100nm from San Francisco, we hand-steered the rest of the way.

We will write a more detailed summary of ou...

Bits & pieces

We have a lot of things to do before we leave for Hawaii. These days a lot of our time is spent getting the boat ready for the trip. We apologize for not updating as often, balancing boat life and work is difficult these days. We're still adjusting to life on the water, getting used to not having a stable internet connection.

This month we would like to release a second video, a post-mortem of our last release Verreciel. If you guys like it we'd like to produce 2 videos a month, one would ...

On crossing the Pacific Ocean

We're slowly gathering information and skills in order to sail to Hawaii. It will be a three to four weeks trip. Our friend Germain will join us for the adventure. We will be crashing our friends MC & Renaud's honeymoon in Maui, waste the fall away, and plan the upcoming leg, to Japan.

We will document our life aboard for an upcoming Redbull Video project, as we attempt to work on Markle, our upcoming game.

Meet PINO(ピノ)

We have renamed our sailboat PINO!

There are things you can do to make a place feel like home, like changing the name of your vessel.

We spent 3 days scraping the old name from the hull, one person sitting precariously in Iggy (our dinghy) and the other perched on the dock. With tips from friends, we managed to do it with the right tools and products.

People have asked us, why Pino? Pino is the android girl in the japanese show Ergo Proxy, she travels with others in a...

Galley recipe: Cheesy seaweed pasta

We have been moving non-stop for the past few weeks, sailing from Victoria all the way up to Gabriola island. And this morning we arrived at Eagle Harbour in West Vancouver. It's been amazing, but because we set sail every 2-3 days we don't have a lot of time to prepare complex meals. Simple doesn't mean boring, this recipe is proof of that. The whole thing is ready in 15 minutes, it requires few ingredients and is delicious!

Off-Grid: Attempt #1

It's gorgeous outside today, we're packing our bikes to the sound of drum & bass. We are going to live on anchor for a few days, to try a few electric projects that we have been working on recently.

It will be our first time living off-grid, but we will be following a friend's sailboat in case anything happens.

We will have some alone-time to try and complete our upcoming game, 2016-03-31 20:42:01 +0000 UTC View Post
