There is always work to be done on a boat.
Today's project was to replace all of our 20W halogen lights with these 48 LEDs 3W bulbs, hoping to lower our electricity consumption. We also replaced our 1500W vertical heater with a 600W horizontal one.
We want to spend as many days as we can on the hook (at anchor) and these changes are necessary to assu...

We're settling into our new home, getting to know our neighbourhood which consists of a few other liveaboards, weekend sailors as well as seals. Living in a place surrounded by nature is wonderful, so many new sounds and smells.
It rains more often than not, luckily the nearest town, Sidney, is just a 20-minute bike ride away. We've made many trips there already, to get essentials for the boat. We're getting organized and can't wait to share our new space with you.
Our next video...

Today, we moved the remaining of our things, our bikes and all, onto the boat.
The previous owner of the boat gave us a rundown of the various buttons, cables, switches of our new home.
We rode our bikes to Sidney to stock up on dried and fresh goods. We are presently moored in North Saanich, in ...

Last night was our first sleep-over. To celebrate, we finally opened that bottle of Whisky, given to us by ex co-workers.
We acquired a few things that we were missing, sleeping bags, a pressure cooker, a bit of food, wine. We walked around Sidney, found some good coffee and bulk food stores. We still have a few things left at our AirBnB to move onto the boat, our bikes, some clothes, and a bit of food.
At night, we played Samurai Gunn to old jazz music coming from the local radi...

We spend a lot of time thinking about how we will optimize our lives as live-aboards. One important thing to consider is trash, we aim to produce as little of it as possible.
This week we made our first zero-waste purchases, such as compostable bamboo toothbrushes and a durable pot scrubber&n...

Today was quite a special one. Before this beautiful sailboat is entirely ours we had it hauled out, inspected and taken for a sea trial.
It passed with flying colours.
The hull is in great shape, no bubbles, not dents, new zincs.
The inspection revealed just a few minor projects, such as the ladder not being conform to the current security recommendations.
We took it out for a quick ride around the islands - the motor started hastily, the sails are in gre...

The vessel that was seen at the end of Episode I is now ours.
It's a beautiful Japanese 33' Sloop built in 1982, from Yamaha.
It's currently docked in Swartz Bay on Vancouver Island, it will be surveyed this week and readied for our arrival, around mid-febuary. Things are moving a lot quicker than we thought. We pas...

We're all packed, and we took care of our paperwork. Three more days of sleeping on hard wooden floors and we're off!
Similarly to the days leading to our departure for Tokyo, it has been an expectedly insane week . Between saying our farewells to our friends and families, we were on craigslist finding new owners for our furniture and toys. We spent some time making origami for our top backers and corresponding with our hosts as well as our navigation course teacher.
We spent the...

It's snowing in Montreal, we're cocooning and packing for our move still. 2015 was a good year for us, in short, we traveled a lot and we went on our first sailing trip. This 10 day trip along the st-lawrence river was a godsend, it made us feel confident about our decision to move on a boat.
Devine wrote an overview of the year, it explains 2015 in greater depth.
We're moving to Vancouver in just 13 days, it feels very real now. ...

Our friends over at Robotcut made this amazing plaque to put into our boat and told us about Particle's Photon micro-controller!
This week, we began looking into ways with which we could log some boat statistics for the 100r.co website and log. Playing with the controller, we managed to get some interesting results and connect it to our API.
We wish you an en...

Every weekend we get together at a coffeeshop to discuss our plans for next year. As it is with all big changes, some problems arise. We just learnt that Vancouver is not so keen on liveaboards, we may not be able to have a long-term stay at a marina. But luckily, we found other areas that are more open to it.
We also talked about making VR videos of our spaceship, this means that you would be able spend time with us on the Rabbit (sort of, but you get it). We're thinking ...
