You Make It Easy - Demo with Strings

Hello! Today, I've been working on polishing the MIDI strings on the demo of You Make It Easy, another of the songs from the next album.

Even though they will be re-recorded live, I still want to have a version of the demo with the MIDI strings and it was a great learning experience trying to get them to sound as natural as possible :D

In the Darkness Strings

You guuuuuuys. I'm super happy to share with you a demo recording of In the Darkness with the strings I recently arranged during Patreon Office Hours. This will be one of the "singles" of the album and I hope to make a YouTube video for it.

I'm sending two files, the full demo (with strings mixed a bit loud in order to continue to check them and make sure I like 'em) and the strings only.

June Extra Video (oops)

To make up for a missing video last month, here is something that's super duper personal. Years ago, I sat down to write a song. This video shows the process... how I'm finding chords, making up words as I go to find the right vowel sounds and the overall message.

This was the first time I got this on video (it was the fastest way to record the audio at the time since I wasn't at my computer) and then added strings to the clip even though the song wasn't complete yet. I just kept hearin...

SPOILER ALERT! New Video Sneak Peek!

Here it is... a clip from Invincible! Wooo! I'm just waiting for the song to be added on iTunes, Spotify, etc and will go live as soon as possible!

It was a lot of fun making this video. A great contrast to the Jenny vid in which I almost had a meltdown. I will tell you more about this in a Malukast this week.

Behind the Scenes - Invincible (World of Warcraft)

Hey guys! 

We filmed a cover video for Invincible on Saturday. Since Omi was there, he was able to take some footage of the process.

It was also incredibly helpful to have his opinion and suggestions. Thanks, Omi!

Overall, it was such a positive experience. I'm glad the freak-out I had during the previous Jenny vid was an isolated maluPanic. It was fun and I feel we made something that looks nice! :D

I'm hoping to publish this video next week.

Extra Video - Where Did You Go - Early Stages Jam

I can't believe this is going to happen after all. Nine years ago, Alexander Knutsen (guitar) and Jack Deboe (drums) flew to Monterrey to play a live show with me.

During their stay, I asked Alex if he could play along to a new song I was working on called Where Did You Go?

The lyrics weren't finished, but the melody and chords were. This video above (filmed by Jack) is of Alex listening to the song for the first time and improvising.

I'm mixing Jenny of Oldstones and couldn't wait to send you a sneak peak. 

Right now, I'm working on finding the right levels for the background vocals... which... you know I tend to go overboard with those. (screenshot below for proof. hehe)

An Experiment - Extra Vid February

I've been meaning to record an acoustic/minimal version of all the songs of All of the Above. Thought we could experiment. I recorded vox while filming and then afterwards added some backgrounds. 

This is "I Can't Make It Rain" a song from my "vintage" original album called All of the Above.

I lowered the song half a step to try to embrace my alto-ness. It feels nicer to sing it in this key now. :D

I spent a few hours trying to film this in video form, but I'm currently going through one of those phases where I feel awkward and uncomfortable with how I look and all I want to do is hide under a tent.

I wanted to let you know of a few updates I've made to the pledges before the next monthly charge on February 1st.

December Extra Video

Hey guys! :D It's aaaalmost the new year. Aaaalmost. haha!

Here's a video of a live performance of a song called Ithguleoir. It was one of the bard songs I was hired to compose music for in Elder Scrolls Online. :D 

What you hear is the raw camera audio. The reverb is natural! Some time ago, I shared another vid from this session. The space sounded lovely, but unfortunately sound of the air conditioner... well, air circulator, it wasn't cool... was too loud!

Sneak Peek!

Hey guys! I'm releasing a new video this week for a holiday song. We took this partial take to feature Thor. Hehehe! It's also the moment when the cover photograph for the single was taken!

It's so cool that the actual moment was captured. :D 

We ended up not using this take in the final video, but still managed to include Thor.

My Immortal

It's finally out in the world. Hehehe! After reshoots and re-edits, it's finally done. I just took a deep breath and exhaled. Feels good!

Extra Video and the Failed Attempts

We once again went to the backyard to make a video. Omi is continuing to experiment with a steadycam contraption for his phone.

I love being able to make vids like this because I feel they capture life moments even better than the fully produced ones. I also love being able to move/pan the camera around to show you a bit more of the scene.

Progress!

Hey guys! :D 

Here are some stills from the My Immortal video we reshot. Well, they are stills from some of the 5 Master takes from which the video will be edited. 

I think we found a much better camera angle that doesn't call so much attention to my forehead butt. haha! I also did my best to relax my face, and relax in general. It's  multitasking for me because on one hand, I have to remember lyrics, and the piano, and I have to remember to be expressive, but not too much...

Filming is DONE!

I met with Cristina of 24milímetros today and we filmed My Immortal. It was a blast! 

Sinking Ships was filmed in my home studio, curtains drawn and with all artificial lights. For My Immortal, we used natural light and added some additional lights as needed. I'm looking forward to seeing what Cristina edits together! Wooo!
