Sugarplum Tea Party, pt. 1: redesigning old characters

Working on the splash art for Sugarplum Cafe - this will be the title art when my game is finally announced to the public!

This is an image I've had in mind as the vision for the game - just two elegant ladies having afternoon tea and desserts. In my head the illustration is super detailed and delicate, and it captures the visuals that I hope will make this game stand out.

Here's this we...

Sailor Cosmos, pt. 3 (she's done! also some updates)

The full version is twice the size of this but just loading the file was murdering my poor laptop, but this size is still pretty big (6000px high).

This was a commission but the client was also kind enough to allow me to sell this as a print. This is now available on INPRNT, and you can use the code WVVW0JFJ to get 15% off all prints until 5/30! There is already another 15% off sale going on this weekend :)

Sailor Cosmos, pt. 2

Lots of progress made on my Sailor Cosmos commission this week!

I wasn't expecting to color everything so quickly, but I was really on a roll. I really wanted to add some sort of rainbow shading to her cape, and while I love how the right version turned out I think the left version fits in better with the rest of her outfit being shades of white? Idk. Still torn on it.

I'm kinda obsessed...

Met Gala fanart + Sailor Cosmos thumbnails

I'm still not a fan of the theme, but I am a sucker for black and white fashion 😩

Here are some of my favorite looks from this year's Met Gala! I really wanted to draw more, Jenna Ortega and Brian Tyree Henry especially, but I was already spending precious commission time on this...

I feel like everyone was more on theme this year than previous years, and more importantly the highs we...

Sugarplum Cafe updates

Before I start - I'm finally selling prints on INPRNT! If you've wanted to buy my EEAAO fanart, my Pantone series, or my Steven Universe series in print form, now's the time!

It looks like there's a 10% off sale sitewide, but I'm also offering an exclusive 15% discount for Patreon backers this month, as a thank you for supporting me for this long. You can use the code WVVW0JFJ at ...

The Stained Glass Gown

The Vampire Gown finally has a counterpart! My friends and I are doing a casual Met Gala collab, so casual that they didn't feel like doing this year's theme (Karl Lagerfeld was not a very nice person) and we collectively decided to play along with one of the best Met Gala themes from previous years: Heavenly Bodies.

What I really wanted to do was draw looks for multiple past Met Gala themes, including redrawing my McDonald's camp look, but a couple of really exciting commissio...

Doctor's advice + plans for this month

Had my doctor's appointment last week about my hand pains. Surprisingly, she did not recommend compression gloves, wrist braces, or similar aids. Something about how you don't move your muscles in them and your muscles can deteriorate...? I guess those aids are helpful to relieve pain if you already have injuries, but are not really ideal just for prevention.

What she did recommend was a series of exercises for my fingers and wrists, and to take breaks often when I do draw, like every 2...

Sugarplum Cafe: introducing cakes and tea parties!

Hi! Usually I post on weekends, but since the month is ending soon I wanted to be sure you got my Sugarplum Cafe update as promised! As mentioned in my last post, I was unable to draw this month due to my hands cramping but it thankfully didn't affect my ability to type and code, so I made the most of my downtime to work on my cozy crafting game, Sugarplum Cafe.

Steven Universe fashion, now with fancy bgs!

It's old art, but I wanted to spruce it up with some proper graphics!

I had a lot more characters I wanted to design fashion for, but I fell out of love with the series and even started to loathe the designs I already had, because I kept getting comparisons to Jojo even though I've never seen the show...if you'll learn one thing about me today, it's that my artist pet peeve is when someone comments "this looks like something" when a) I've never referenced the thing and b) it doesn't rem...

Life update

Hi everyone, apologies for not posting last week. My hands started to cramp even when idle, and I'm reaching that point where I need to worry about straining my hands, or worse, carpal tunnel syndrome. Thankfully they stopped cramping after a week, but I think it's because I let them rest and didn't draw.

As a result I won't be able to work on new art this month, so I will be spending this month on coding 2023-03-11 07:00:01 +0000 UTC View Post

Outer Senshi Princesses, pt. 1

Continuing the Sailor Moon Princess series with the outer planet princesses! The lineart is done, so I've just got to finish coloring.

From left to right: Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, and Saturn. This is my first time drawing the new faces without the split...I'm not loving them right away, wondering if it will take some colors to make them a little prettier or if I'll have to redraw them. We'll see!

Sailor Moon Shoes

The Jimmy Choo x Sailor Moon collection was so good it inspired me to design some high fashion Sailor Moon shoes of my own 😚

Every Sailor Scout has their own unique pair of shoes, and in a way each shoe says a lot about their personality. So it made perfect sense to make them high fashion! IDK if I can top the Jimmy Choo shoes, especially since I can't make th...

More Sugarplum Cafe characters! (White Choco, Dark Choco)

More placeholder art for more characters in the game!

Lady White Chocolate (is that a mouthful?) is a princely lady and the first art I've drawn since actively deciding to update my art style. See this post for more info.

I've decided all the different types of chocolate will be related someho...

Holiday Barbies, art musings, vacation announcement

To no one's shock, I've been thinking about changing art styles again 😩 Or rather, reverting art styles?

I've been falling out of love with the split-face thing I've been doing. It's been hard to draw real people with it, or characters who don't have a slender face. My more "modern" fashion designs feel out of place with this face too. I was being put off by my own art...again.

So I was particularly inspired by a very good shoujo manga called Kageki Shoujo to nix th...

My fanart got noticed by the EEAAO crew!

So my Jobu Tupaki fanart is finally out there for the world...let's talk about it!

New Sugarplum Cafe characters! (Sugar, Rose, Cream, Citrus sisters)

Since the core of Sugarplum Cafe is about discovering all the dessert-themed characters, I decided that with my next update it was finally time to introduce some more!

Please consider all of this placeholder art - I wanted to just get the ideas on (digital) paper so it doesn't entirely match the art style of the previous ladies. In fact, all Sugarplum Cafe art I share is technically placeholder...

SHE'S DONE

I actually finished her while streaming on Twitch. My New Year's resolution was to start streaming on Twitch now that I have a laptop that can handle it, so I decided to test it out. It was really fun and chatting with people kept me from burning out, so I will definitely stream more art in the future!

Everything Everywhere All At Once (pt. 2)

Continuing my progress on this very ambitious Jobu Tupaki fanart, you can read part 1 here

This week I completed all the lineart on all the outfits!

I will probably make some minor fixes, and most of the patterns will be done in the coloring stage, but at least the brunt of it is done. View Post

Everything Everywhere All At Once

EEAAO is a movie that has stuck with me since I've watched it, and I've been wanting to draw a tribute to Jobu Tupaki and her amazing outfits for a long time now.

There's a scene where she's walking in different universes and I've been wanting to draw her walking in her different outfits, but I knew it was going to take a LOT of effort to draw every outfit and figure out the animation and everything...

Inner Princesses + SM artbook update + Sugarplum Cafe

The Inner Princess fashion collection is finally complete! The version I posted on Twitter was lower-res by accident so you get the nice hi-res version. (I learned the hard way that Twitter's drafts and scheduled posts will always save a low-res version of your images...)

Here's Venus individually as I've shared the others individually on here. The individual posts weren't performing so ...

Sugarplum Cafe - new demo ready!

Hello! After a year, a new demo for Sugarplum Cafe is ready to play for free. I would love playtesters to help me break the game as much as possible 😄 If you're interested, there'll be instructions at the bottom of this post.

The Pantone Collection

I know I've shared this collection many times before, but this year I wanted to try something new with the layouts. Plus, gotta add this year's color, right?

I really like this new layout, personally. I've always been into "infographic" style posters, and I think sharing multiple designs on one image makes the pieces feel more like a set of designs rather than just an illustration. Let me know what you think!

Redesigning Disenchanted

I drew Maya Rudolph in Disenchanted! The movie was better than I expected (better than Hocus Pocus 2) but the costumes were mostly disappointing compared to Enchanted. The budget was probably a lot less though, so I get it.

Still, I felt like there were some good ideas in this dress, so on a whim I decided to redesign it this week. I also thought it was a good opportunity to t...

Princess Jupiter (early access)

Part of my Sailor Moon Princesses series, see the other looks here!

Jupiter was one of the designs that came most clearly to me. I really wanted to play with the rose motif on her dress and add some pink to contrast the green, especially since pink is her secondary color on her sailor senshi uniform.

The tricky part was making this dress feel more fashion-forward rather than just a pretty dress with flo...

Princess Mercury and Princess Mars (early access)

Starting a new fashion collection inspired by the Sailor Scouts in their princess forms!

Each of their gowns is relatively simple, with maybe one feature that makes them unique. As a result, it was pretty tough to come up with creative designs, but I think I'm finally ready to take on the challenge.

Pantone 2022 (early access)

Very Peri is done! She'll be posted in December but patrons get a sneak peek :) I went with a different composition this time around, couldn't pick between two poses so I decided, ah heck why not draw both??

I decided to go with the periwinkle flower as inspo rather than the periwinkle snail, because I do not like snails very much. As I mentioned in the WIP post, I'm not in love with this design as a whole. But I like it from the waist up, so getting to draw a close-up portrait fo...

Commission thumbnail + art post update

A design commission for a drag queen client who is gonna make this IRL! It will probably be a while before I render this out as an actual drawing, since I've been asked not to post the final piece publicly until she posts pictures of her look and I imagine construction is gonna take some time. I have no idea how she's gonna make this, but I'm gonna be hyped.

For now I used the character models I drew a while back as a placeholder. I would like to draw more customized portraits and have them show different emotions depending on dialogue, hoping time and budget allows!

Here's how I'm hoping the fu...
