WIPWednesday - Flesh Louse

Hey Critical Crew!

We're getting next month's "Morgus - Kingdom of Screaming Flesh" release ready to ship and had one last sneak peek for you all. Check out the Flesh Louse for WIPWednesday

"...Flesh louses are the "clean up crew" of Morgus, eating deceased creatures, feasting on the constantly growing organic material of the Kingdom of Screaming Flesh, and ensuring that the land does not "outgrow itself" serving as horrid custodians and eating anything in their path. Dermamancers, necromancers, and gravebound in general despise these creatures as they are constantly devouring bodies that may be put to better use, or absorbed by the fleshy maw of Morgus and reconstituted into biological structures in this wretched land...."

Hope you all are ready for some body horror!

WIPWednesday - the Mawmnomer

Hey Critical Crew!

Here's your midweek check in on what's coming in next month's "Morgus - the Realm of Screaming Flesh" release. Check out this excerpt of lore for the terrifying Mawmnomer for WIPWednesday

"...Mawmnomers are the proverbial "mouths" of The Deceiver made flesh, these horrible abominations were created by the outsider to occupy Morgus, and rule over this realm with a terrible society of their own wretched design. Mawmnomers are purely carnivorous and truly voracious, having to consume immense quantities of meat, blood, and viscera in order to survive. While flesh is plentiful in Morgus, vast regions are normally under the control of a single mawmnomer, and interlopers caught "foraging" the flesh from their lands are usually eaten in short order. Hierarchy amongst mawmnomers is determined by holdings of "flesh lands", the size and weight of the mawmnomer (with the largest and most obese of mawmnomers considered to be the most attractive and often powerful), and what other creatures of consequence the mawmnomer has devoured...."

We're excited to share more so stay tuned!

WIPWednesday - the Fleshie

Hey Critical Crew!

Here's your mid-week check in on next month's Body Horror -themed release "Morgus - the Kingdom of Screaming Flesh". Check out this first look of the Fleshie for WIPWednesday

"...Thought to be physical manifestations created by the Deceiver of what it is like to be "caught in a lie", fleshies are intelligent creatures that harbor the memories of their victims. A fleshie is capable of absorbing other creatures, continually absorbing new creatures into its ever growing form, and adding their memories and abilities to its own. Fleshies often resemble masses of writhing flesh, with Humanoids, Beats, and other creatures combined into a singular wretched abomination...."

These abominations are guaranteed to mess with your players! Stay tuned for more soon!

Open Post - July Release - Yarns of the Yonmen Mountains

Tier Release Links

______

Hey Critical Crew!

This month leaves behind the mystical mountains of the yokai and instead trades it for a land of a different sort of magic. Situated between the endless sands of the White Sea, the Yonmen Mountains are home to things beyond your wildest imagination. Lands where the mist hangs low and the pines whisper old names, strange things have always stirred in these hollers and hills. Folks who grow up here know better than to stray off the trail after dark or whistle in the woods - superstitions passed down like heirlooms, warning of things older than the road itself. Are you players brave enough to enter?

.STL's

This month brings our latest .STL for our Apprentice and Loremaster tiers - the chimera-like Snallygaster! This .STL files come presupported by our good friends at TableFlip Foundry.

As always - STL's are NOT backlogged, so be sure to download it locally this month!

Encounters

We've got 5 brand new encounters of varying challenge ratings and settings -ready to drop right into your existing campaigns, or can just as easily be used as a springboard into a new adventure.

Catch your players off guard when their campsite within the woods is caught off-guard by a creature stalking the trees; send them on the task of investigating the seemingly mundane disappearance of some local's goats; and have your party find a mysterious ransacked cabin in the middle of the forest...

Stat Blocks

You get 5 brand new monster stat blocks of various challenge ratings.

Strike fear into the hearts of your players with creatures like the Raven Mocker - silent, stealthy killers, that use their invisibility and etherealness to stalk the sick and dying; the Hide-Behind - predatory creatures that creep through wooded areas where trees grow tall and gnarled; the Boo Hag - creatures that resemble horrid, flayed corpses in their true form, and magically craft disguises out of the skin of their victims; the Snallygaster - chimera-like cryptids of the sky that fly through the dusk and night air to prey on livestock and children, picking off easy targets in desolate places; and lastly the Tumblewyrd - carnivorous plant creatures that gain their energy from absorbing both the physical bodies and souls of their prey.

Player Options

This release also introduces our latest subclass for our gunslinging original player class the Renegade (originally introduced in our "Edge of Nowhere" release) - the Backwoods Bumpkin armament! Renegades armament specialization tend to live in isolation, secluded away from society and the hustle and bustle of city life. A backwoods bumpkin renegade is extremely resourceful, and uses all sorts of makeshift weaponry out of what would seem like trash to average folk. These renegades create explosives from household goods, or assemble firearms out of scraps of wood, springs, and more.

We also have our latest player race - Pukwudgie! These small, enigmatic humanoids are rumored to be descendants of ancient spirits tied to the borderlands lying between misty mountains and the arid desert canyons. WIPWednesday - the Gaffing Giant

Hey Critical Crew!

July's release drops tomorrow, and while we've got 40+ pages of Appalachian-horror content ready for your tables we are also moving full speed ahead on August's release too! Check out the first-look of this terrifying creature known as the Gaffing Giant from August's "Morgus - the Kingdom of Screaming Flesh" release for WIPWednesday!

"...Gaffing giants are towering nightmares that roam the bleeding badlands of Morgus, dragging hooked chains through the flesh-warped soil in search of prey. Twisted by The Deceiver’s will, they don’t kill for sustenance; instead harvesting screams by dragging victims for miles in slow, torturous treks across the jagged plains. Their bodies are pierced and split, as if their very existence itself is one of constant pain. Where a gaffing giant walks, the land remembers every scream...."

WIPWednesday - the Boo Hag

Hey Critical Crew!

We're back from Origins Game Fair after an amazingly successful and fun convention, and it was a BLAST getting to meet so many of you! But alas, the grind does not stop and we're getting the final touches on next week's "Yarns of the Yon-men Mountains" release, but we had one final sneak peek! So check out the Boo Hag for WIPWednesday...

“...Resembling horrid, flayed corpses in their true form, boo hags magically craft disguises out of the skin of their victims, able to pass as friends, family members or even lovers wearing a truly macabre "skin suit". Using these disguises the hags are able to infiltrate areas where their victims sleep, removing their skin suit to dine on their victims at night, paralyzing and slowly draining them of life, or killing them outright… Often associated with vampires, paralysis demons, or other creatures that go bump in the night and steal the life-force of their victims during sleep, boo hags are known from draining their victims dry, paralyzing and exhausting them to the point of death, before flaying their skin to add to their collection of disguises….”

We're super eager to get this next release in front of all of you, as we feel like the Appalachian-horror inspired content is going to really help drive some fear into your players!

Stay tuned for more!

WIPWednesday - the Tumblewyrd

Hey Critical Crew!

We've touched down in Columbus at Origins Game Fair and we're getting the Critical Crafting booth setup as we speak, but we can't let today pass without your midweek check-in of what's to come for July. Check out this first-look of the Tumblewyrd for WIPWednesday!

"...Rolling across desert lands and desolate plains are the infamous tumblewyrds, carnivorous plant creatures that gain their energy from absorbing both the physical bodies and souls of their prey. Tumblewyrd's resemble massive tumbleweeds rolling through the desert, but these mobile balls of plant matter are deadly hunters, usually filled with the tangled corpses of their prey. Creatures trapped within a tumblewyrd roll along inside of it, being slowly eaten by the plant while simultaneously fusing with it in an excruciating process of digestion.

As it absorbs its prey, the tumblewyrd releases the ghastly screams and cries of its past and current victims, fused in a horrifying cacophony that often alerts potential prey before it arrives. Still... with its ability to pick up momentum so long as it continues moving, even the most agile of prey is likely to be run down by a tumblewyrd, their screams added to its own...."

This one is sure to drive some terror into your players! Stay tuned for more soon (and if you're going to be at Origins this year drop us a message on here or social media so that we can be on the lookout for you! We have some goodies for our loyal patrons!)

WIPWednesday - the Snallygaster

Hey Critical Crew!

We have another mid-week check in for you for what's to come in June's "Yarns of the Yonmen Mountains" release. Check out the Snallygaster for WIPWednesday

"...Terrors of the skies, snallygasters fly through the dusk and night air to prey on livestock and children, picking off easy prey in otherwise desolate places. These chimera-like creatures sport a cyclopean eye, membranous wings, a huge slashing beak, talons, tentacles that can drain blood from their prey, and a bulletproof hide.

Snallygasters are completely impervious to bullets or other ammunition fired from firearms. In fact, anything fired from a firearm at a snallygaster simply ricochet's turning the attacker into a target. Because of this, most hunters attempt to use magic or more rudimentary weapons when taking on a snallygaster... although... there is something to be said for simple explosives, with some tales of snallygasters blown to pieces by the appropriate use of volatile chemicals or even distilleries set to blow...."

Open Post - June Release - Yokai Tales

Tier Release Links

______

Hey Critical Crew!

Despite the birth of our first child and 5 days in the NICU, following by being displaced for two weeks due to the well at our home going out and electrical issues, having the Critical Crafting website cyber attacked TWICE, and breaking my glasses AND being wracked with the flu...... we present to you (on time, to boot!) Yokai Tales.... The very gods themselves couldn't keep this release from getting into your hands!

June's release takes us deep into the lands of the Yokai; from the Heiwa Monastery high upon the mountain peaks within the Frozen Wastes to the Kiken Mountain Range, and way down into the underbelly of the Bluudkeep in the Baishunpu Row (a seedy region of the capitol that is known to raise a few eyebrows due to its nickname of 'the Fleshtrader's Row'). Yokai Tales is sure to bring the wonder and thrill of the unknown to your table...

.STL's

Are you feeling the luck of the Makineko cat race, because this month brings our TWO latest .STL's for our Apprentice and Loremaster tiers - the breathtaking Koi Dragon and the feline catfolk known as the Makineo! These .STL files come presupported by our good friends at TableFlip Foundry.

As always - STL's are NOT backlogged, so be sure to download it locally this month!

Encounters

We've got 5 brand new encounters of varying challenge ratings and settings -ready to drop right into your existing campaigns, or can just as easily be used as a springboard into a new adventure.

Take a well-earned rest at a cozy tea house with a beautiful woman whose beauty hides a deadly secret; investigate the disappearance of a missing woman known to be a hoarder; and have you players experience the Rumbling itself when they cross paths with a titan of a skeleton traipsing across the countryside!

Stat Blocks

You get 5 brand new monster stat blocks of various challenge ratings. Humble your players with the colossal Gashadokuro - a titan of a skeleton made of hundreds of thousands of skeletons; the wise toadsage Ogama, with its rainbow breath that allows it to communicate with visions; and the terrifying Jorogumo - a demonic monster posing as a woman to lure foes back to its lair to feast on them...

Player Options

May also brings our latest Order of the Blank class - the Way of the Nameless Monk! Acting as the unseen hand of the Order of the Blank, these monks are trained to silence spellcasters and sever the ties of magic on the world. Unlike other monks who channel Ki as a supernatural or mystical force, Nameless monks wield Ki in a fundamentally different way, one rooted in the philosophies of the Order of the Blank. For these monks, Ki is not magical in nature, and is instead a product of rigorous scientific study, physical mastery, and precise control over the body’s natural energies. Often the subject to distrust among their own ranks, the Nameless monks operate in isolation - bound to the Blank’s mission, yet never fully embraced by many of its members. Feared by mages and mistrusted by their own, they walk a lonely path, erasing magic from the world one spellcaster at a time…

We also have our latest player race - the felinefolk known as the Makineko! Known for their deep connection to the unseen world of spirits and their quiet dedication to sacred spaces, and Often mistaken for simple “good luck” cats or rural legends, the Makineko walk the boundary between the physical and the spiritual, maintaining shrines across the land with reverence and discipline. While typically reclusive and humble in their lifestyle, their innate connection to magic makes them figures of both mystery and quiet power. Those who leave their shrines often do so in service of a vision, a dream, or an ancestral calling that pulls them toward the world beyond. Complete with three different subraces (each tied to a different discipline of how they serve within the shrines), these cats are ready to bring the vibe of the yokai to your table!

And lastly, we're covering all your player's needs with our 4 latest feats and 2 latest deficiencies, to allow for further character customization.

Items

May also brings our 5 latest magic items and our 2 latest grafts to give you plenty of options to help your players feel the magical nature of the yokai!

Spells

This release also brings our 6 latest magic spells to bring the wonder and awe that surround the yokai. Channel the raw power of the Koi Dragon with the Koi's Dragon Breath spell; the merchant-favorite Makeneko's Shop Savvy to help turn a bigger profit in the market; and even our 2 latest epic cast spells (spells past 9th level for greater - even narrative game-changing effects!) like the Hyakki Yagyo and the Gashadakuro's Revenge!

Maps

We've also got 12 total battle maps (gridded and gridless variations) - ready for the included encounters (or just as easily used as standalone maps).

Tokens

And lastly, we are bringing you 18 VTT-ready tokens for all of your online needs!

WIPWednesday - the Ōgama

Hey Critical Crew!

We've got our final sneak peek of June's release prior to it getting released next week, so check out the Ōgama for today's WIPWednesday. Check out the lore below and be ready to bring the toad sage to your table!

"...Ōgama are massive toad-like creatures that begin life as common toads. These toads often venture up into the mountains, or to secluded lakes, rivers, springs, or other bodies of water far from civilization. There, the toads grow to immense size and age (some say due to the inherent magic of the places they live in, though no one truly knows why). When a toad reaches one thousand years of age, it transforms into an ōgama possessed of magical abilities, rudimentary intelligence, and massive size...

...Ōgama are known for their magical abilities, breathing forth clouds of rainbows that can reveal mystical secrets, paralyze their foes, transform other creatures, or obscure vision. Sages, truth-seekers, and those obsessed with unlocking the mysteries of transmutation, longevity, alchemy, or the mystic arts will often seek out an ōgama, hoping the yokai will bestow its supposed secret knowledge as ōgama are associated with these themes (either through folklore, tradition, or social constructs)...."

WIPWednesday - the Koi Dragon

Hey Critical Crew!

Here's your latest mid-week check in with another sneak peek of what's to come next month in the Yokai Pt. 2 release. Check out this first look of the Koi Dragon for WIPWednesday and the excerpt from the lore down below!

"...Legends say that long ago, a koi fish was swimming upstream and reached a mighty waterfall. Instead of turning back like many of its brethren, the koi attempted to jump up the waterfall, time and time again it failed, but it persisted in its attempts. After one hundred years of trying to make its “climb,” the koi finally succeeded, leaping to the top of the falls. As it did so, an outsider of great power witnessed its feat of perseverance and strength, and transformed it into the first koi dragon as a reward for its dedication...

...Koi dragons are known both for their kindness and their wisdom, they are sought out by those who are troubled to offer guidance or encouragement to persevere through hardship, or pursue dreams that will likely require great endurance. Some seek a koi dragon’s lair simply for the beauty and calm such a place offers, and any community is lucky to host a koi dragon. Indeed, some communities build their entire cities around the ponds of koi dragons, the magical luck and general goodwill of the dragon ensuring they are prosperous (so long as they do not anger the dragon by polluting or destroying the beauty of its home)...."

WIPWednesday - the Gashadokuro

Hey Critical Crew!

Here's your mid week check in on what's to come in next month's Yokai Pt. 2 release, and dare we say it's one of the more terrifying ones we've done yet? What happens when an entire hoarde of skeletons come together and being one colossal skelly? Look no further than today's WIPWednesday preview - the Gashadokuro!

"...Gashadokuro are massive Undead formed from the communal remains of those who died in a horrific way and without proper funeral rites , the corpses can coalescing into a massive creature of bone. A gashadokuro is a being of rage, hatred for living things - born of violence, destruction, and despair, and knowing nothing else. A gashadokuro's only purpose is to destroy, and it persists in its destruction of everything it comes across like a force of nature, truly unstoppable. Even if the body of this massive creature is destroyed, it reforms and sets on its path of wanton violence again minutes later, a symbol for all of the devastation war and a lack of honor for the dead can bring...."

WIPWednesday (Friday?) - The Way of the Nameless

Hey Critical Crew!

This post got stuck in our drafts and missed the normal midweek post, but we didn't want to let the week pass without this awesome look at June's upcoming Blank monk subclass. Check out this excerpt from their lore and let us know what you think!

Monks of the Way of the Nameless are the unseen hand of the Order of the Blank, trained to silence spellcasters and sever the ties of magic on the world. Their unique mastery of Ki allows them to unravel spells at their source, but due to Ki’s supernatural nature they are often a subject of distrust among their own ranks. Many within the Blank view these monks with disdain, keeping them at a distance and refusing to grant them the same brotherhood shared among their troops. As a result, the Nameless monks operate in isolation - bound to the Blank’s mission yet never fully embraced by its cause. Feared by mages and mistrusted by their own, they walk a lonely path, erasing magic from the world one spellcaster at a time...

WIPWednesday - the Thunderbird

Hey Critical Crew!

We're getting the final touches done on exports for next month's release and we wanted to share one last preview before this Saturday's release of "Skies Reborn" ! Check out the Thunderbird for WIPWednesday

“...Seen as protectors by some and storm-bringers by others, perhaps thunderbirds are a bit of both. These massive avian creatures soar through the skies, bringing thunderclouds and rain in their wake. While seen as bringers of rain and protectors by some, thunderbirds do not just bring rain or protect a settlement on a whim. These creatures expect veneration, offerings, and even prayer to them in order to bestow the gift of their rain or the promise of their protection. In desert regions, many tribes and nations give offerings to thunderbirds in hopes of bringing them rain. In other areas, people may venerate the thunderbird for its annual migration to their region, ensuring a new year’s planting is watered, or even offerings to entice the thunderbird to intervene on their behalf, slaying their enemies with its thunderous might….”

WIPWednesday - the Necrocael

Hey Critical Crew!

We're getting the final touches on May's "Skies Rebirth" release, and we wanted to share this magnificent piece for today's #WIPWednesday. Check out this first look at the Necrocael and its lore below!

“...Necrocaels are massive, jellyfish-like creatures that float above the ground, normally carried lazily along the current, allowing their tendrils to drift through the air and snatch unwary prey from the sky. Necroaels will sometimes drift over oceans, snagging sea life out of the water, but they are considered most dangerous when floating over civilized areas, their tendrils grabbing civilians and hauling them up into the creature’s orifice to be slowly digested within its massive stomach. Necrocaels are unintelligent and exist only to feed. Most believe these creatures originated in the Hollow Expanse and were somehow transported to the Material Plane. While their life cycle is not fully understood, it is presumed these creatures reproduce asexually and that their eggs are microscopic, clinging to clothing and drifting on air currents. Once the eggs float over a large body of water, they hatch, growing quickly into the absolutely massive necrocaels, as large as most ships and capable of devouring Humanoids with ease….”

What sorts of features come to mind for this terrifying monstrosity?? Let us know in the comments below!

Open Post - April Release - The Null Mines

Tier Release Links

______

Hey Critical Crew!

With over 100 pages of 5e content, this is easily our biggest release yet!!

April's release leaves the surface world behind, and plunges us deep into the depths of the earth. In the claustrophobic tunnels and sprawling caverns, the Order of the Blank's mining operation known as Null toils away (with entire generations of miners having gone their entire life without seeing the light of the sun). Null exists for the sole purpose of discovering rare veins of ore and arcanhile, for use on the surface in the front lines of the ongoing war against the mages. Does your table have what it takes to venture into the unknown?

Printable STL

This month brings our latest STL for our Apprentice and Loremaster tiers - the deadly Blank Overseer himself, Atreus III ! This STL file comes presupported by our good friends at TableFlip Foundry.

As always - STL's are NOT backlogged, so be sure to download it locally this month!

Encounters

We've got 5 brand new encounters of varying challenge ratings and settings -ready to drop right into your existing campaigns, or can just as easily be used as a springboard into a new adventure.

Send your party tracking down the location of a missing clone and bring the body-horror when they stumble across a laboratory deep within the caves; interrupt their subterranean travels with an unknown noise that appears to be getting louder; and cross paths with a group of Blank miners that are attempting to destroy an uncovered magical artifact....!

Stat Blocks

You get 5 brand new monster stat blocks of various challenge ratings, helping you flesh out the Order of the Blank at your table with creatures like the Blank Fleshripper, the Blank Nullsmith, and the Blank overseer Atreus III!

Player Options

Players and GM's alike have long been asking for more Order of the Blank player options, and this month we have answered your calls! April's release introduces our latest full player class - the Biosplicer! This class originates from the scientific knowledge and schooling of the Order of the Blank, and focuses on hunting creatures before harvesting various biological components that it can then fashion into craftable items and elixirs or even graft the parts onto themselves and others via our brand new Crafting system! This makes the Biosplicer a great utility class for any party, as the biosplicer helps augment the party for any challenge that may be thrown their way. With three subclasses to choose from that each focus on specializing in a different monster type (Aberration, Construct, and Undead), your players are sure to enjoy the nearly endless augmentations that this will introduce to your table.

We also have our latest player race - the humanoid native batfolk known as the Nycterians. Due to their ancestral homes lying so close to the advancing Blank miners, the nycterians have found themselves at odds with Atreus III and his ilk. The nycterians have turned to covert resistance in an effort to prevent the stones of the earth from being disturbed. Using their intimate knowledge of the caverns, they sabotage mining equipment, collapse tunnels, and mislead the Blank’s survey teams.

And lastly, we're covering all your player's needs with our 4 latest feats and 2 latest deficiencies, to allow for further character customization.

Items

The introduction of the biosplicer necessitated a brand new Crafting system, and we did not pull any punches with this one. This release includes 336 crafted items to allow the easiest introduction of the system to your table possible! We've also got our 16 latest items and 2 latest grafts to round out everything you could need to reward your players.

Spells

This release also brings our 8 latest warps - the antimagic version of magic spells that allow the user to literally warp reality and create spell-like effects! With a special focus on the biosplicer, these warps will help fully integrate it at your table.

Maps

We've also got 10 total battle maps (gridded and gridless variations) - ready for the included encounters (or just as easily used as standalone maps).

Tokens

And lastly, we are bringing you 9 VTT-ready tokens for all of your online needs!

WIPWednesday (Thursday?) - The Cavernary

Hey Critical Crew!

This was intended to go up yesterday, but between dealing with sickness and getting the upcoming Biosplicer player class wrapped up for next week's release, it failed to get posted. Before we head into the Blank mining operation of Null deep within the earth next week, here's one last sneak peek of what's to come. Check out the Cavernary!

"...Cavernaries are massive mutated birds that were once canaries held within cages to warn miners of impending dangers. These monsters were created by Blank scientists hoping to create more resilient sentinel animals, birds capable of warning miners of potential gases or other hazards within their mines without risk to the bird. The thinking was sound, create a new variant of the canary with advanced strength, size, and resilience, one able to easily report threats to miners, and the newly mutated creatures seemed to function well for a time, little more than oversized canaries with an increased lung capacity, until the mutations continued…."

We're eager to get this release in your hands, so stay tuned for more soon!

WIPWednesday - Khaldhool .stl

Hey Critical Crew!

We interrupt the normal WIPWednesday posting schedule to share the exciting news that the Khaldhool sculpts are now finished and moving onto supports! While we were disappointed in the delay, we knew it would be worth it in the end to have this terrifying necromancer in both his humanoid form as well as his necrotic dragon form. As soon as these are out of supports and the test prints have gotten the stamp of approval, we will be uploading and notifying all of the Loremaster and Apprentice tier patrons

Stay tuned for more soon!

WIPWednesday - the Blank Miner

Hey Critical Crew!

Next month’s patreon release takes us deep below the surface into the Order of the Blank’s mining outpost known as Null. Check out one of the grunts that can be found working the mining operation for WIPWednesday - the Blank Miner!

“...Grunt workers in the Null Mines and in other locations where the Blank digs for deposits of arcanhile fallen from the sky or precious materials or metals for trade or production, Blank miners also aid in seeking out the hidden city of Edyn and destroying anything magical they might find beneath the earth. Unlike Blank tunnelers who are equipped with mechanical armor and headlamps, Blank miners often work in areas illuminated by electrified glass orbs providing vision in large spaces of the lightless depths. Despite this common practice, all miners are also genetically modified by the Blank in the womb, ensuring that they have minimal darkvision for working in the dark as well as a latent resistance to magic (just in case)....”

Stay tuned for more sneak peeks at the new Blank content coming next month!
