Status update

It's been a bit since my last post. Since then, I did manage to bug Patreon into finally giving me my money, but I didn't get around to updating this page here to say that. But it's all good, at the moment. (Let's see what happens with the payout early next month, though.)

Current Status: It's all so tiresome.

Unfortunately, things are moving at a glacial pace because I'm extremely inundated with work at the moment. While I am trying to get stuff done on the mod in the meantime, I do need to prioritize my real-world obligations, and right now that means the companion is on the backburner while I catch up. Thankfully, because of the generosity of you all who support me here, once my work backlog is cleared up a bit, I can return to putting some hours each day into mod work without worrying about go...

Current status: Minutiae

Since my last update with screenshots and the reveal that Lacie now functions as a companion, we've entered the stage of mod creation where... There's not going to be a whole lot to say. Right now, I'm filling out locational dialogue from place to place. I want her to have a large suite of comments she can make in various locations, even if there's no quest relevance to them.

The soul-crushingly tedious stuff is done.

Well, I finally found myself with enough free time that I could hammer out all the boring, tedious, mind-numbing minutiae that is turning a regular NPC into a companion.

Lacie (pictured above and subject to facial tweaks and edits at my discretion) now functions on that base level. She'll follow you, switch from guns to melee, all that good stuff. Hooray.

Well, I finished that work gig I had, which means that in the next couple days, I'm going to buckle down and deal with the "fun" of making her companion mechanics function, and I'll also grab a screenshot of her face.

And just in case anyone had any fears/expectations/hopes of me ruining my own work with "AI" voices, hahaha no. Never. I have standards, even if John Nexusconsumer doesn't.

Status update: Work

Progress on Lacie is a little slow right this second as I complete some real-life work that is creeping up on me. Alas, the tax man comes for us all.

However, that ought to be done within a week or so, and after that, I'm going to knuckle down on the most tedious bit of companion creation: Implementation.

So, getting her a companion wheel, follow packages, combat styles, tactics, home markers, all that incredibly annoying stuff. Once she's following, back to dialogue...

Oh boy, crafting!

Lacie is not going to have an in-dialogue crafting menu like Veronica, but what this mod will have is a couple new crafting recipes, like converting cherry bombs into gunpowder. Another one that's more character related is that, if Lacie likes the player, she can share her (slightly alcoholic) fruit drink recipe, because she despises both pre-war soft drink brands.

If anyone has any ideas for other things, feel free to share them, although I'd say keep it somewhat thematic. Like,...

I'm relatively sure I'm done with my upcoming slave liberation mod. Some parts of it were easier than I expected (having Melody and Siri react to whether the player is an enemy of the Legion), others were harder than I expected (The women with the backpacks), and some were exactly as annoying as I expected them to be (splicing together some audio for Melody, given the relative lack of dialogue lines for children in the base game.)

No More Mods on the Nexus.

If, somehow, you folks like my content enough to financially support me, but you've also missed what's been happening in the modding sphere lately, well... The short version is that Nexus mods is run by lying exploitative cowards. They've revoked mod authors rights to delete our own files in preparation for some "mod pack" scheme that would line their pockets, and claimed they would "love" to have feedback from us about it.

They then spent several days completely ignoring all feedback. ...

Amazon shoved it up their cavernous volcanic spewing asshole, and they lost it in there when they realized they forgot their spelunking gear. I still have no mic, and now I also don't have the fucking money I paid those inept cocksucking cunts, and my only fucking recourse is to try and buy the exact same fucking one from them, because it's all they fucking have. And yet, mysteriously, I'm hesitant to do that. For some bizarre, unaccountable reason, I'm having a really fucking hard time trust...

I paid Amazon to deliver my shit on wednesday. They took my money without hesitation. Wednesday comes, and they say: "Uhhh, there's a widdle bit of wind, we don't wanna drive in the wiiiiiiind. It'll be here on Thursday instead."

Now it's fucking thursday, and where is my mic? GOOD QUESTION. I don't fucking know, Amazon apparently doesn't fucking know. All they know is: "We'll take all your money without delay. As for our end of the deal, haha, you can fuck yourself."
