Creative Ways to make FX 🧨

As Alex (Human Synthetics) and I approach the final stages of our new atmospheric jungle sample pack, I thought this would be the perfect moment to write a blog post about my sound design process and some of the most effective techniques I’ve been using to create FX.

There are so many rules in music that get suck in our heads, from gain staging analog plugins at the correct level (-18dbfs) t...

Patreon Video: Old School Sampling Techniques

I'm not going to do too much writing for this one as its all in the blog posts! 😊

Just that the main things to focus on with this old-school Sampling technique are:

  • Sample Selection

  • Trimming and Editing Samples (Start and End Position)

  • Pitching Samples +/-

  • Grid Note Placement

  • Chopping & Slicing

  • Reversing

  • Layering Samples +/- 12/7/5 Semitones (+12/12st doubles or halfs the speed...

Sample Chopping (Old-School Technique)

I was watching Marlow Digs last night & thought his video was highly relevant to this month's blog posts & upcoming Patreon exclusive video. ☞

I know not everyone reads these but for those who do, this is truly the key to unlocking old-school style sampling! πŸ₯·

PFM: Artist Breakdown

Every now and again I come up against the my ultimate enemy. βš”οΈ the YouTube copyright system! It’s gone and absolutely nailed me on this video. At the moment I can’t upload it to public at all and am trying to dispute the video for educational reasons.

In the meantime, at least we can enjoy it on here 😊

Big ups all

Sample Chopping (Types of Sample)

Sampling records alongside break chopping is one of my absolute favourite topics. I know I’ve already done a blog post about this but I wanted to give a more detailed look into all the sample chopping techniques I know! πŸ₯‹

The .wav files for these images are included in the .zip folder attached to this post. πŸ“

Ok, so let’s start with a quick example…

Using Oblivion Labs Serum Pack To Make A 90's Jungle Track

Just a quick one from me this eve. If anyone is on the hunt for some amazing 90's themed Jungle patches, these actually go pretty hard!

It can be quite difficult with synths like serum to get that old school sound so I was really impressed by Jonathan's work on this pack. Definitly a good idea to dive in and see how he made some of the patches to brush up on your sound design. The keys/leads/fx/bass & pads are all great.

Artist Breakdown 2025! πŸ₯·πŸŒ΄

These artist breakdowns are always a blast & are totally worth it as I always learn so much myself from making them. We've now covered Photek, LTJ Bukem, Paradox, Source Direct & Dillinja & Lemon D.

Personally, I am still in love with the 90's style so would always lean towards artists from that period. Even so, trying to breakdown Marcus Intalex or Calibre would be a welcome challenge and I'm interested to see what I could come up with for a more modern artist.

I've ...

Filters Have Evolved (Classic Techniques and Introducing Filterverse VST)

Just before Christmas, Polyverse very kindly sent me over a copy of their new plugin Filterverse. I've had a few weeks to play with it now and it's certainly a lot of fun, super creative and actually pretty straightforwards to use.

I didn't say this in the video as I was just doing a brief overview of the features but I'd probably say it's a little overpriced at Β£114 so waiting for a discount might be the way to go with this one.

The Ultimate Hybrid Workflow? Digitakt MK2 vs Renoise

This video idea & the Renoise/Digitakt mk2 template had so much potential that I just had to get the project out. The crashes and problems with overbridge nearly proved too much for me and then by some miracle it worked flawlessly on my final attempt. πŸ™

The Digitakt Mk2, despite it's faults in a lack of manual slicing and ping-pong loops is truely incredible for sound designing and manipulating samples. It's super creative with 3 LFO's , chorus, overdrive, bitcrush, sample rate r...

Planet Jungle and Black Friday Deals πŸͺπŸŒ΄

Hello everyone :) I can't believe it's nearly Christmas again!πŸŽ„
