A Light in the Woods

Based on a true story on our camping trip! I had never seen a glow worm before, I didn't know there were any in Finland.

Blue fox translations

When you live with someone for long enough, you'll learn to know what they mean when they say things. When my partner would like to have something, he's usually just too held back to openly and directly admit so. I've learned a rule of thumb that only a clear and explicit "no" means "no".

Shredding time

Sometimes it's best to accept that you can't control your moods, but you can control what you do with them. Getting yourself chew toys you can rip through when you want to shred something is more constructive than just wrestling your moods inside your head.

Return of the potatoes

Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of our potato plants this year - they grew much better on the balcony than they did last year indoors with a sun lamp!

Blueberries

We went to the same campsite later - the wealth of blueberries was astonishing. We collected over 1 kg together in less than three hours!

Devices

The device was camping gear - a charger that doubles as a flashlight.

Movie night

So we watched Nimona. Absolute gold!

The beauty of nature

Photos from our quick little camping trip! All taken between 5 and 6 am, we woke up early and saw the morning mist.

Getting up

Been a bit low on energy recently - my fox queue is running a bit dry, but we went camping this weekend! I took some pictures on our journey home, unrelated to this comic so I'm making a separate post for them.

Preferences

This has been sitting in my drafts for a while - haven't been sure whether to post it at all, since the tone is a bit more negative than foxes usually.

Strangers

This didn't literally happen, but this one time we encountered our neighbour's son, he stopped to chat, and we both talked politely a moment before we needed to carry on our way. My boyfriend asked me who that had been, and I hadn't even realised that he doesn't know him. I'm bad with faces and names, so I'm personally in the habit of politely pretending to recall who someone is if they seem to know me.

This could 100% happen.

Anywhere in the world

The secret formula to a great relationship is to be with someone whose company you prefer to being anywhere else without them, and who also likes to go to places you'd like to be.

Technology detox

Smartphones or internet aren't inherently bad, it's how you use them.

Studying smaller life forms

The thought of "what if there are creatures beyond our comprehension watching us right now" is much less unnerving if you imagine that they're cheering you on.

Also this one originally had different dialogue for the last panel, but I couldn't fit all the text in. Originally the entities' conversation was:
"Have these two attained tranquility yet?"
"No, they've been watching ants."
"Close enough."

Shelter from the storm

Have I mentioned recently how much I love our panelled balcony? I sit there as much as I can, my partner uses it as a greenhouse, we keep solar panels there to charge, and when neither of us are there to use it, our fox plushes are still sitting there in their own little chair, being slowly bleached by the sun and loving the view on our behalf.

Homemade jam

We went blueberry picking together with my partner's family yesterday, and made jam. And had this exact conversation.

Lapses in temporal awareness

This did, indeed, quite literally happen.

City navigation

My partner recently got an electric scooter - I'm scared of operating motored vehicles, so I follow along on my trusty bike!

I also forgot what colour I made my bike in the first comic it was featured in - his family really did, indeed, buy me a bicycle - so I ended up colouring it in red here for visual balance. The real bicycle, which I love dearly, is simply black.

In the eye of the beholder

An incident that genuinely happened. He naturally assumed I was leaning in for a kiss.

Scented candles

I like describing scents with oddly specific vibes they have.

Ear wax

Some people do enjoy occasionally indulging in being gross. Some do not. I actually just had my ears professionally cleaned for the first time yesterday, and I really should have done that years ago. If your ears are like mine and you end up resorting to regular cleanings at home, I can't recommend it enough.

Did you know that it's possible to feel the airflow in your ear canals on windy days?

Customer help

People skills are the only skills I have, so I'm quite comfortable with asking for help in little incidents, as easily as I offer help if I ever spot someone I think might need a hand with something I could help with.

My partner hates bothering people with anything, even if he needs help, and he has worked in customer service. He hates being a customer.

Have some finnish!

...It's hanging on by a thread and a handful of good intentions.

Midsummer party

The only hyperbole here is the 30 friends - there's only going to be nine people - and we actually won't get to build a bonfire, as would be traditional.

Emotional support

This is another one of those that happen regularly.

Freezer

We do not, unfortunately, have a deep freezer large enough to fit my whole boyfriend inside. If we did, I'm sure he'd live in it.

Abstract patterns

I'm almost finished with the pages for album 3 of A Friend of Caesar(!) while album 1 should get into print this year. I've got ample time to work on it, but I'm procrastinating by doing pretty much anything else. Recently I've been making these symmetrical designs for no particular reason, so I figured I'd share them with you.

Outdoor exercise

Based on a very recent and true story.

Spicy kisses

This is one of those things that happens so regularly that I'm not sure if I've already made a comic about it.

Sleep and cuddles

My boyfriend needs a blanket to sleep. Sometimes when it's too hot to sleep with one, he'll sleep covered with a single sheet but with his back exposed for thermoregulation. The temptation to cuddle up and be the big spoon is immeasurable, but I know he produces heat like a nuclear reactor and I can't go ahead and block his only cooling vent with my entire body.
