Animation!

We're carrying on with regular comics on monday, but I was too excited not to share: I tried my hand at animating something! My computer almost died a few times - seconds before saving, usually - and this took me a whole day, but it's finished now!

Interlude

The car is packed with stuff we have no idea whether we’ll actually need, and no idea if we’ve forgotten something!

Imminent Threat

Fun fact: we’re both remarkably under average male height in the region. And shorter than about half the women.

Communication

This was straight-up an actual conversation we had, concerning a really thick parka. Kid looked like a traffic cone in it.

Bees?

Mosquitoes are always drawn to the same individuals. It’s good to take one of those people with you when you go camping.

Work rules

Laws are for people with no sense of manners or common sense.

Giant’s kettle

In finnish, the word is hiidenkirnu, ”ghoul’s butter churn”. In the original meaning, hiisi has been the name of a holy place or a burial ground, but later the name’s meaning shifted to mean a great, frightening, troll-like creature that is hostile to humans.

The swedish name, jättegryta, refers to not simply any giant, but specifically to jötunn, the frost giants of viking lore.

The Bug

I’m like 90% sure that this would work.

Clothing maintenance

Based on a real incident - if I ask if he newds something, ”no” means ’no’, ”you don’t need to bother” means ’yes’.

Various Noises

This is a conversation that we have on a regular basis. And I also just realised that it would have been a far more funny punchline to just put

”Nah.”

I wanted to share this because this is straight-up the best painting I've ever done. I'm scared of trying to paint anything else ever again. But here it is!

Linguistics

I actually did know a woman who was a latin teacher as her first trade, and had never heard of ”lorem ipsum” used as a filler text in web page building. When I showed her the practice website I had build, she started reading the essay - in latin! - with no idea why it was there.

This was more or less an actual conversation. He really has several of those bags, all in different colours.

The hammock

Sleeping next to him on a mattress on the floor is far better than sleeping alone on the bed.

Pushing him off the mattress because I wanted cuddles was not his thing, though.

Mornings

My boyfriend leaves for work hours before I wake up. Some days ago I woke up to him giving me a kiss before leaving, but I went right back to sleep right after it.

When I mentioned it, he seemed surprised that I’ve only woken up to it now - he’s kissed me every single morning before he leaves.

Anxiety

Based on conversations had in a car.

Stretching

I do recommend stretching while watching stuff, it’s a good way to sit still and get some fitness in.

There are subjects I avoid in the comics, not due to being touchy in any particular sense, but because of the artistic limits. For example, there are no comics featuring animals other than foxes in order to avoid "furry confusion" - if the protagonists are animals, what are the other animals?

 This rules out one of our favourite hobbies as a subject - birdwatching. City birds are fun animals to watch, and our hometown has plenty of jackdaws. Occasionally when on a walk, we'll bring...

You really need to announce where you are going, lest you want to get smacked by a partner who was just trying to construct a fence.

Rule number 1: the time to buy a fresh baguette is when you’re craving for one hard enough to eat the whole thing in one sitting.
