Welcome back to Constellation, Last Stand Media's conversational podcast. This week, I (Colin) am joined by LSM executive producer Ben Smith, Summon Sign host Brad Ellis, and Hoeg Law's Rick Hoeg. Rick kicks off this time around with a topic about mythological pantheons. From Roman to Greek to Norse and beyond, do we find ourselves particularly interested in or attracted to any of these ancient forms of worship? Next up is Brad, who wants to chat about film, TV, and game adaptations. Whether ...

With an eye towards levity and distraction, we deliver to you a nearly three hour-long episode of me (Colin) and Brad nerding out and talking shop. Earlier this week, I typed a simple inquiry into our staff Discord: What should we do this week for +? Brad had a logical answer: Why don't we rate stuff? So we did just that, first going through the many gaming consoles and handhelds prevalent during the history of our industry, before we segue into a postscript ranking of the core Final Fantasy ...

We're getting into the late summer now, and it's no surprise that the news is beginning to pick up, starting with word of more Xbox games migrating to PlayStation. By our next episode, we should have at least one more Microsoft-centric title lined-up for PlayStation 5, a sign of the times as -- ultimately -- much of that catalog finds itself elsewhere. Meanwhile, problems are brewing in Sony's games-as-a-service initiative. On one hand, Concord's release is imminent, and the excitement level ...

In a year chockful of layoffs and studio closures, we needed a W like this. What was originally considered one of the biggest losses amidst these changes was Xbox's closure of Tango Gameworks. Originally known for survival horror titles, Tango stormed out the gate last year with the beloved action rhythm game, Hi Fi Rush, to critical acclaim. Krafton seems to have liked the numbers they saw because they've stepped in to take Tango and the Hi Fi Rush IP off Xbox's hands. While The Evil Within ...

2024-08-13 16:00:11 +0000 UTC View PostHey All! It's time to submit your questions, comments, concerns, thoughts, and ideas for Episode 189 of Defining Duke.
Great ways to get your write-up used: Be pithy, be topical, and be insightful. Walls-of-text, posts littered with poor grammar and punctuation, etc., are promptly (though respectfully) ignored.
As this is an Xbox podcast, be sure your submission makes sense within that realm. You have until Tuesday, August 13th at 12PM ET to make your submis...

It's time for more Constellation, Last Stand Media's conversational podcast. This week, I (Colin) am joined by LSM coordinator and shopkeep Micah Moriarty, storied game designer David Jaffe, and Lockmort's Edits' Lockmort. We begin with my topic, a heady one no doubt, but a fun one with lots of threads from which to pull. Warner Bros. Discovery -- the owners of HBO, CNN, Cartoon Network, WB Pictures, WB Games, and much more -- is in freefall, with value dropping 70%. How would we save this st...

While Sony's $3.6 billion purchase of renowned developer Bungie was contentious in some corners from the get-go (including here on Sacred Symbols), it's also true that the deal came loaded with a ton of potential. But only two years later, it's become increasingly obvious that Sony, well, got got. With a significantly lowered headcount, cancelled projects, a spin-out incubation team, lost personnel to SIE, and more, there's a lot to go through above and beyond what we'd ever cover on Sacred S...

We're pleased to present to you a decidedly old-school-coded episode of Sacred Symbols, recorded in the traditional 1v1 fashion. And we've plenty to keep us busy, starting with Sony's quarterly financials showing a thriving games division hampered by slowing console sales. But with PS5 Pro around the corner (and the inevitable first true price cut for the core hardware), can we count on things picking up once more? Meanwhile, as we've long-assumed, Santa Monica Studio is indeed working on a n...

Avowed is getting moved back to February 18, 2025 out of respect for our backlogs. How kind of Xbox to do such a thing! Avowed was a subject of much debate for the Dukes. While the game looked solid coming out of the January Developer Direct, it clearly needed more time. Come June, Avowed looked to be in much better shape and has now found itself a new date away from the noise of the holiday season. This sets up Xbox for a rare top quarter of the year game, a second for them in this generatio...

After an incredible 33 year run spanning a full 367 print issues, legendary games magazine Game Informer has shut its doors. While it's obviously sad for all who have lost their jobs, it's likewise a blow to the generations of enthusiasts who once leafed through its pages to learn about what was next. Peaking at around 8 million subscribers at its height -- and ostensibly a backdoor marketing arm of brick-and-mortar retailer GameStop (and FuncoLand before it) -- the failure of Game Informer f...
