I really wanted to get out of the house this week and finish off shooting some camera reviews...but I've been too ill to venture into Liverpool in winter. It's nothing serious, no need to be concerned, it's just that my fortitude is at a low ebb.

The seasonally cold weather scuppered my plans to get out and test some cameras for a review next week - so instead I managed to turn around this short video in record time. It's about a format that I hadn't heard of until a chap emailed me about it on Monday.
I have a feeling this video might have turned out to be a bit boring. I started off with an idea that sounded interesting....but somewhere along the line the life seemed to leave it and we're left with this pale ghost of the original idea.
So if you're feeling drowsy, this might not be a good one to watch.
It will be going live to the public in a couple of hours...after I return from the shops. Do you need me to pick you up anything while I'm out?

The robot home assistant is still very much sci-fi, but you can at least now get one to clean your windows. Or at least that’s the idea, unfortunately my house has other plans.

The DAT video I posted last week required solid editing for a number of days and in the end I think I overdid it a bit because it's taken me until yesterday to fully recover. I've managed to get this video out just before the New Year so I can now say Happy New Year to everyone who can see this and who made 2016 a really great year for me.
I know the common opinion is that 2016 was a bit of a downer unless you bet heavily on deadpools...but on a personal level, the help and support you have shown to me over the year has made it really productive and rewarding.

I've been working on this review of the Yi M1 Micro 4/3 camera since November. I've avoided reviewing 'proper' cameras in the past, because I thought they would be too complicated to cover in a short video and if anything, making this video has reinforced that opinion, so this will probably remain a one-off.

A common request I've received recently has been to make a video about my HP-01 wristwatch. I bought this as a treat for myself... to mark a landmark event, the idea being that whenever I check the time it reminds me of this.
I never intended to make a video about the watch, but with so much interest it only seemed right to demonstrate this rare gadget so that anyone can see it in action, even if they never get the chance to see one in person.

Sometimes you don't realise how far you have come until you look back over your shoulder. So while 1998 doesn't feel like ancient history to me, in camcorder terms it was a completely different era.

I'd normally do an early release here - but all this talk about time and clocks has made me realise that I'm seriously falling behind on my projects. So over the next couple of weeks I'm going to try to complete a number of videos that have been in limbo for a while.

Here's something a bit unusual - if you've been following me on Twitter, you'll already know a bit of the story behind this. What started off as an old tape of advert jingles bought from eBay - ended up expanding out into pop culture history.
You'll get to see this an hour or so before everyone else, while I'm working on the annotations and links and waiting for youtube to process the 4K version.

Over the last month I've been attempting to repair a couple of Commodore SX-64 computers. In this video you can find out why & how and whether I was successful, all condensed from weeks into minutes. If you've subscribed to my youtube channel for a while you know that I have an attraction to music visualisation. After my recent video featuring the SAE Mk VI Tuner with its oscilloscope display it's clear that there are a lot of other people out there who also enjoy some visuals to go with their audio.
The team behind the Laserdock clearly share this sentiment - but they've turned the visual side of things up to 11.

Making this video has been a marathon. It started back when I bought a RCA Cartridge well over a year ago. I then finally sourced a player for the tape.... but that got lost in the post. I got hold of some used cartridges and finally managed to buy another machine that was broken. Hopefully you'll think it's worth the effort in the end.
