Oscilloscope Intro Sound Effect

Just a quick question:

Do you prefer the Oscilloscope intro with the actual  buzzing audio from the scope as seen on the Vinyl-Disc video...or with the old  intro tune dubbed on top, as seen on the Powered Speakers video.

Powered Speakers with built-in phono pre-amp

I really wanted to get out of the house this week and finish off shooting some camera reviews...but I've been too ill to venture into Liverpool in winter. It's nothing serious, no need to be concerned, it's just that my fortitude is at a low ebb.

Anyway that means another yet audio themed video...so apologies if this isn't your bag. This one is features something I fully expected  should exist...but I was unable to find anything like it until last week.

I'll let you in on a bi...

VinylDisc

The seasonally cold weather scuppered my plans to get out and test some cameras for a review next week - so instead I managed to turn around this short video in record time. It's  about a format that I hadn't heard of until a chap emailed me about it on Monday.

Digalog Cassettes

I have a feeling this video might have turned out to be a bit boring.  I started off with an idea that sounded interesting....but somewhere along the line the life seemed to leave it and we're left with this pale ghost of the original idea.

So if you're feeling drowsy, this might not be a good one to watch.

It will be going live to the public in a couple of hours...after I return from the shops. Do you need me to pick you up anything while I'm out?

Window Cleaning Robot

The robot home assistant is still very much sci-fi, but you can at least now get one to clean your windows. Or at least that’s the idea,  unfortunately my house has other plans.

As patrons you have early access to this  video…and of course my continuing thanks.

If you are wondering what happened to the camera reviews, I do have a few in the works…but changes in circumstances, as well as the season.. mean they now take me much longer to make. That said, I donâ€...

Big Radio - short video

The DAT video I posted last week required solid editing for a number of days and in the end I think I overdid it a bit because it's taken me until yesterday to fully recover. So this week's video is a bit simpler and shorter than usual and given its lateness, I had to release it at the same time as posting this message..so my apologies, but no early access this time.

Anyway I hope the new year is treating you well so far and if not, I hope things improve.

Spoiler alert: There...

Thank goodness DATs done

Some videos come together relatively easily...others want to fight back. Fortunately it's impossible to tell from the finished product...so please enjoy my DAT video...and I'll have a drink or two.

The end of a great year...

I've managed to get this video out just before the New Year so I can now say Happy New Year to everyone who can see this and who made 2016 a really great year for me.

I know the common opinion is that 2016 was a bit of a downer unless you bet heavily on deadpools...but on a personal level, the help and support you have shown to me over the year has made it really productive and rewarding.

Ignoring celebrity deaths,  election and referendum results and all the other thing...

Yi M1 Mirrorless Camera Review

I've been working on this review of the Yi M1 Micro 4/3 camera since November.  I've avoided reviewing 'proper' cameras in the past, because I thought they would be too complicated to cover in a short video and if anything, making this video has reinforced that opinion, so this will probably remain a one-off.

Youtube is still processing the 4K video transcoding at the moment, however HD is available. I need to do a bit of admin including uploading some samples before the video goes live f...

A Golden Egg containing Retro Tech

Here's the next video - a day early for patrons.

Due to  reasons beyond my control I've had to schedule the next two videos after this one to auto-publish. So with those videos you'll only get to see them at the same time as everyone else. Apologies for that.

An interesting snippet... my Oscilloscope Music video has proved very popular and has driven a lot of traffic and interest towards Jerobeam Fenderson (aka Chris) the creator of this work.  We've been in touch a...

Scope this out...Oscilloscope Music

A chance to watch tomorrow's video, today. Hope you enjoy.

By the way,  I've got a few commitments for the first two weeks in December, so I'm trying to make sure videos get auto-released in my absence.

What this means is that there won't be early access to these videos (due to the way scheduled releases work on youtube). Also I might not manage to get one video per week out in December. I'm trying my best to get as much done in advance as I can, but time is rapidly running ou...

By popular request - The HP-01 Calculator Watch Video

A common request I've received recently has been to make a video about my HP-01 wristwatch. I  bought this as a treat for myself... to mark a landmark event, the idea being that whenever I check the time it reminds me of this.

I never intended to make a video about the watch, but with so much interest it only seemed right to demonstrate this rare  gadget so that anyone can see it in action, even if they never get the chance to see one in person.

LaMetric WiFi App Clock Message doohickey

I'll release this video properly tomorrow...it's best to avoid today as the US election will no doubt smother everything else that happens for the next 24 hours.

Incidentally could you let me know if you really don't like these early posted releases. I was thinking to myself that some people might just want to see  original content here on patreon - rather than pre-posted youtube content.

Patreon exclusive video- Behind the scenes

As promised a while ago - here is a behind the scenes video showing the making of my new 4K ident (that's the thing at the start of the videos).

One day I might make this 'public' however for the time being I think it should be a patreon only video - for the reasons below...

Back with a Dashcam - the A119

My plans to catch up on lots of outstanding projects hit the bumpers when a nasty bug took me out of action for four days over the last week ...but I've emerged on the other side with another video.

In this Dashcam review I've tried again to streamline the dashcam review process to just end up with facts and opinion. The product category is sufficiently well established nowadays to be able to do away with repeating the basics (I hope).

Not everyone knows how a dashcam works, so I'...

I love a good bad idea - and this was one of the best

Continuing my mission to increase my output with the minimum of distraction to catch up on a few projects - here's something that you may find interesting, I know I did.

Sometimes you don't realise how far you have come until you look back over your shoulder. So while 1998 doesn't feel like ancient history to me, in camcorder terms it was a completely different era.

Nowadays I'm shooting and editing 4K video, but 18 years ago (yes it's that long) things were very (very) different.&...

Look at the time...

I'd normally do an early release here - but all this talk about time and clocks has made me realise that I'm seriously falling behind on my projects. So over the next couple of weeks I'm going to try to complete a number of videos that have been in limbo for a while.

During this period I'll have to duck out of answering comments, so apologies for that - but it's the only way I'll be able to find enough time to make any progress.

Anyway here's a video about flip clocks.

A video about a mediocre scanner

Very quick update. Managed to find time to get this shambolic video knocked together - it's not a classic, so feel free to skip it knowing that you really didn't miss anything exciting. I'll get working on something more substantial ASAP.

With a build up like this - I should be in advertising.

The Master Tape

Here's something a bit unusual - if you've been following me on Twitter, you'll already know a bit of the story behind this. What started off as an old tape of advert jingles bought from eBay - ended up expanding out into pop culture history.

You'll get to see this an hour or so before everyone else, while I'm working on the annotations and links and waiting for youtube to process the 4K version.

I hope you enjoy it. I did find it difficult to have something to show on screen...

Commodore SX-64 - Faults & Fixes

Over the last month I've been attempting to repair a couple of Commodore SX-64 computers. In this video you can find out why & how and whether I was successful, all condensed from weeks into minutes.  There are some useful links in the video text box on youtube - which can be reached by clicking the title bar in the video.

I've still to write my accompanying blog post for this, so after I do that in the morning, the video will go public.

LaserDock - Laser Entertainment System

If you've subscribed to my youtube channel for a while you know that I have an attraction to music visualisation. After my recent video featuring the SAE Mk VI Tuner with its oscilloscope  display it's clear that there are a lot of other people out there who also enjoy some visuals to go with their audio.

The team behind the Laserdock clearly share this sentiment - but they've turned the visual side of things up to  11.

I hope you enjoy this video...I'll be making it public in ...

Early Access - RCA Sound Tape

Making this video has been a marathon. It started back when I bought a RCA Cartridge well over a year ago. I then finally sourced a player for the tape.... but that got lost in the post. I got hold of some used cartridges and finally managed to buy another machine that was broken. Hopefully you'll think it's worth the effort in the end.

There's one thing I didn't mention in the video because it didn't fit anywhere...but it's been going around my head all the time. I find it interesting h...

This one has been planned for a while - I wanted to do make it a few weeks ago, but I first had to do the Nixie Clock video to  give this one a bit of background and context. Now that I've finally got it finished I think that I should get back to doing a couple of camera reviews as I may have over-done the retro-tech.
