AN - These chapters are locked for editing for me right now, but I noticed comments about him drink the blood from the lion. I don't know how it got there, but the original was him putting it in his spatial ring. Anyway, I will fix that when I get things back from the editor.

Chapter 25

Nyx and I got clear of the birds, with piles of loot left behind us in a trail.

“Wow. You are a lot stronger.” Nyx uncoiled from me, her hand lingering on my bicep...

Chapter 24

The lion came again, and I felt solid. Strong enough to do something stupid.

I reached out and caught the lion’s paw with a single hand.

The monster stopped dead against my arm.

“Ah. Well, then.” I cocked my other arm back and punched the lion in the muzzle as hard as I could, letting go of the paw in the same moment.

The hit still felt like punching steel, but this time, I made a dent as the lion flew from my grasp, rolling in t...

Chapter 23

My threats must have been effective enough because there was no more fighting between Zane and Galen as we moved into the morning.

A small pang hit me as I missed Simone, Gloria, or really anyone to talk to. In the short time since coming back to this life, I’d grown rather used to having someone nearby I could rely on. In the instance, that role had started to be played by Nyx. I didn’t feel nearly as comfortable with anybody else.

Even as th...

Chapter 22

Simone had one of the communication stones and was walking on the beach while she talked to Gloria. “Yeah, he’ll be gone for at least another week.” She squeezed it like it was a walkie talkie.

“They say a week and he’ll do it in a day.” The rock laughed with Gloria’s voice like she was right there.

“If only. They said two weeks, and I’m shortening it.” Simone giggled. “At least his mother is starting to understand a few thin...

Fuck me. I cursed to myself as I saw a cyclops hunter up ahead, hearing the swarm closing in behind me.

I used Charge to speed up further and slam into the monster before ducking around it as the swarm of murder birds didn’t just go for me but tore the cyclops apart in moments.

The boss swarm was level nineteen, and the cyclops, even at level sixteen, was shredded in a moment.

I was already around the cyclops, moving my legs as quickly as they would go. I pumped m...

Chapter 20

Galen drew his scythe as quietly as he could, approaching the other group. He could have gone for the others, but there was no reason for the dispute between Zane and him to spill out to the rest.

Jumping out of the trees, he brandished the scythe. “Zane. I’m right here.”

“Galen, there you are!” Zane had the smile that only a golden boy or a household’s favorite dog could mimic.

“Glad you are so excited to see me.” Galen flas...

Chapter 19

The feathers sliced through my legs just as quickly as they healed, and I stumbled in the last fifty feet.

“Bran.” Nyx’s voice was laced with urgency. “Get up. They are getting closer.”

“Carry me.” I tried to move, but there was something severed in my right leg that prevented me from putting any weight at all on it.

Nyx pushed from my arms and lifted me on her back as she started running.

The ‘murder geese’, as Nyx s...

Chapter 18

I stayed back, firing off Blood Bolts next to her and placing Blood Hexes on them to weaken them for the others. The group quickly mopped up the cyclops as they came.

Zane waved to me. “Are you debuffing them?”

“Yep. Working on leveling the skill,” I lied a little.

“Me, too,” Nyx said. She’d been working on petrifying arrow. She’d recently hit level ten and gotten a new ability: Petrifying Gaze. She seemed reluctant to use it...

Chapter 17

“Grandson.” A man with a heavy white beard appeared in the orb upside down while Zane hurried to reorient it. “Tell me about your initiation.”

“Ancestor. The levels are rising.” Zane hurried to get to the important part.

The man stroked his beard. “We noticed that on the outside, and that’s why I contacted you. Do what you can and then take everyone to a sanctuary and rest for the remainder. Consider it a vacation.”

Chapter 16

I slicked my sweaty hair back as I stood up from collecting more gold coins. The cyclops were now level 11 and continuing to grow stronger.

By the time they hit level twenty, I estimated the rest of the group would start struggling to take on packs bigger than three and need time to recover between groups.

Checking my level, I noted I was level thirteen now. I’d been able to out pace the cyclops leveling, but five stats a level did not keep up w...

Chapter 15

“Bran. Bran.” A voice urgently called me.

“Hmm” I groaned, but I was on my feet in an instant. “What are you doing?”

Zane was clinging awkwardly to the lip of the roof. “I can’t step on the roof or I get shocked. Katie’s hair looks fried after she tried three times this morning. She… uh… said that you hypnotized her to keep coming to you.”

“I’m pretty sure she’s insane. I have no hypnosis.” I rubbed at my eyes...

Chapter 14

Regeneration kicked in and started to knit my leg back together, but hobbling around on one foot made the fight that much harder.

Blocking without a back foot to hold me up was not an elegant look.

I hopped back, using the femur to parry while using blood transfusion with the other hand to help speed up the healing.

It would be quick, perhaps thirty seconds, to repair a leg hanging on by a thread. Yet in a duel that amount of time could be a...

Chapter 13

Nyx stared with wide eyes as they mopped up the remainder of the cyclops and the one was still beating on Bran.

“What the fuck is he made of?” Rylan spat, watching the recruit that had been instructing them through battle.

Nyx had already pegged Rylan as just being off a touch. He was just too smiley. Though, it remained to be seen if he was just sort of a salesman type or maybe a more malicious sort of manipulator. Everyone was gauging each o...

Chapter 12

I sat on a rock slightly away from the group. They had all been giving me looks since we finished up fighting. By the end of that big group of monsters, everyone had markedly improved. I was fairly sure they hated me though.

More than a few of them picked up weapon proficiencies after a few pointers.

Nyx found me on my perch. “You know, I don’t understand you.”

“What’s to understand?” I ate some tuna sandwiches that I had stored ...

Chapter 11

Circe watched as the newest clan members all entered into the portal and everybody else started to filter out of the coliseum. It would be probably two weeks before the entrants all exited. With Zane and Galen inside, both were likely prepared with food, water and weapons.

It was customary for the lead branch to supply those as a way to engender support for themselves, but there was no doubt that Galen would have supplies as well.

The two branches...

Chapter 10

Galen’s group headed off with all eight of the SS rank bloodlines and nine of the S rank bloodlines. That put eighteen of what turned out to be thirty seven participants in Galen’s group.

Zane was still calming his group down and patting the air trying to get a semblance of order.

Nyx slid up next to me. “You seem calm about all of this.”

“It’s just an instance.” I shrugged, my eyes naturally scanning around us for any th...

Chapter 9

After what could have been a moment or an eternity the leech pulled back, allowing me to see my soul once again. Every surface was covered in a mouth that was trying to munch on me.

“I warned you.” It ripped and ripped.

All it did was open deep caverns with more space in my soul.

I laughed. “Ancient beasts aren’t well versed in the combat of the soul are they?” I checked his stats.

Chapter 8

The ancient beasts were mostly legends. The legend went that once the worlds were forming and in their infancy, demons tried to invade and infect the worlds before they were fully formed.

Beasts who had lived in the universe prior to that came out of every corner, devouring and destroying demons to protect the worlds. However, there weren’t enough of them. They were few in number and the tide of demons was never ending.

Thus, the ancients beasts ...

Chapter 7

I let out a breath as I stepped onto the coliseum floor. The morning had gone rather smoothly. My grandparents had been overbearing, which had ultimately stopped my mother from getting a word in to tell me not to pursue Odyssey.

The coliseum seemed particularly big from down below. People crowded into the stands while a group of eighteen year olds gathered in the center of the pit. Sand covered the floor in a layer thin enough to show bare stone in patch...

Chapter 6

I stopped with Cice and Simone in front of my grandfather’s small building. It was a narrow but deep two story building in what would be considered the lesser of the two residential islands.

Circe had taken us on a long winding path. I was fairly sure she was still testing me the whole time. Yet it was so casual, it was hard to be on guard.

I didn’t really know what to make of her interest or her questions. Most of the time I wasn’t exactly s...

Chapter 5

“So if  you had all the power in the world, what would you do with it?” This wasn’t the first question Circe had asked me over our pottage.

Yet, it was probably the most interesting.

I leaned back to give more room for my stomach. My bowl having already been filled twice. “Well, my mother told me about the clan’s prophecy so I thought it would be interesting to prepare for the eventual demon invasion. Seems like something to work tow...

Chapter 4

I had spent nearly half a day on the plane, and Simone, my mother, and I were somewhere over the Mediterranean according to the navigation. I’d fallen asleep twice.

We avoided the topic that had precluded the glasses of whiskey. It seemed my mother needed more time to think.

“Alright.” My mother stood up. “This is where we get off.”

I glanced out the window, not seeing anything but a smattering of islands. And ahead of us was nothin...

Chapter 3

The plane took off and I felt slightly uncomfortable flying in the flimsy aluminum can. Not that I was afraid of flying.

It was just so weak for something in the air. Thoughts of an F rank bird accidentally hitting it and tearing it apart ran through my mind. Flying was so much safer with the appropriate skills.

Then again, I could always pull out the sword and use B rank drop along with the D rank swim bracer to get out of about any situation.

Chapter 2

“Pulling off my plan will be complex. Right now, I have no support. If I go into the clan and show off too much, I’m probably going to have to kill my way out.” I sighed; the clan was a den of vipers. Making the wrong person jealous would probably force me to kill them and then there would be more behind them. It would just be a mess.

“But if you don’t show off enough, you won’t be able to join one of the three branches.” Gloria understood ...

That wraps up AO 4!

I started to write this whole scene of Ard repairing Soulgard and preparing for the battle and then had some people read up to that point and got a big thumbs down.

It felt more like a ramp up for another big Arc that I didn’t have time to do.

So, I rewrote that last half of the chapter and I think I’m pretty happy with it and the whole book in general.

Carmilla was 110% the hardest part of this book. She’s the big bad that’s been around for...

Epilogues

Izzy Stormheart looked up at the white stone building in front of her. The entire structure was pristine to an extent that did not look natural.

There wasn’t a speck of dirt on the white stone that was so bright, it nearly blinded her when it caught the sun, nor the actual gold doors.

She hoped they were just gold plated, otherwise she had no idea how she was going to open them.

A woman in a pink gauzy dress opened the door from the other s...

The bodies were scattered like they’d been in a fight.

I lifted a sphere of light higher so we could all see them.

There was a feminine corpse next to a wrecked tree with a large male corpse wrapped around her.

I gasped. “Melida?” I pointed to the corpse.

Emlyn cut through the knee deep snow easily and flipped the man off the woman. “Nope. I’m guessing this is Faith?” She asked mostly towards Zuri.

Chapter 42

My heart was still hammering in my ears from nearly falling to my death as the fortress had collapsed.

I was lucky to have four incredible anchors all looking out for me. Despite my bravado, I was still foggy like when someone woke you from a deep sleep. My brain was like a loose wheel slipping on the axle every few seconds.

Aurelia put me down gently, like she was handling a glass vase.

“Where’s Maribelle?” I asked, reaching out to th...
