A few things!

You guys are awesome, I feel like I can't say that often enough.  Your support means a lot.

1. The second half of 2017 has been rough for me, mentally.  The life of any artist is one of highs and lows, and I've been self-employed most of my life so I am sort of used to this...  But this long, long down is exhausting.  

2. I'm off to Japan tomorrow, for a short trip, and no shoots planned.  That means fewer shoots in October...

A Slow Month

If ever I am grateful for your support, it's months like this where I've got next to no shoots on the calendar.

I've got a few things lined up to try and fill the magazine but actual paying shoots this month can be counted on one hand.

So yeah!  I love you guys.  <3

The Magazine

To date, I've had -zero- feedback about the magazine.  As far as I can remember, at least, not one single comment.

I think I've asked before, but...  Do you like it?  Does it work for you?  Would you prefer some other sort of content in exchange for your hard working money?

Let me know!  This month is shaping up to be the slowest month I've ever had, and so I just might end up with some time to put something else together.

It's finally done!  A couple of pages aren't quite what I wanted, but it was starting to look like a long process to get them into shape, so maybe next month.

A quick update!

DHL dropped off a thousand dollars worth of lights today!  High powered remote strobes that should be more reliable than the ones I've been having trouble with.

The trigger that lets me control them is stuck in customs.  Ffffuuuuu...

The September magazine is almost finished, just waiting on a few things from some of the people in that magazine.  I hope to have links for you tomorrow.  =)

Supamove

Working on the launch of a new clothing label.  Here's the crew in a parking garage in Brisbane.

This was a fun shoot, but nothing at all went to plan so it was three hours of intense improvisation.  I think we got some great content, but we'll see what the client thinks...  ^_^

For the technically curious, this shot was taken at 1600 ISO, 1/100th using available light (left) and one bare speedlight (right).  The camera was on a tripod because at 1/100 my in-focus hi...

Photography is Expensive.

Two nights ago in an alley in Brisbane one of my lights blew over in the wind and knocked over my 360-degree camera, smacking it against the ground with the momentum of both tripods.  Though in its protective case (more of a thin neoprene cover, really) the one of the lenses on the Theta 360-degree camera took a nasty whack and is now permanently, unfixably out of alignment.  

So no more 360 degree photos for a while.  Sorry.

Here's something special for you awesome folks: 360-degree behind the scenes images from photoshoots.  As often as I can remember to do it, I take these shots so you can get a sense of actually being there during a shoot.

Pan around, zoom in and out, really get into it.

Technical Babbling

I run a light system that's completely portable.  A bag full of Cactus RF60 radio-controlled speedlights, and a handful of additional Cactus V6 receivers to drive my Nikon lights, mostly SB-28 units.  This has been a tremendously flexible and powerful solution for a long time...

Until it wasn't.  Four of my five Cactus lights all developed a charging problem at the same time.  Literally within a couple of weeks of each other, they all stopped firing when I asked them to. 2017-08-13 07:47:13 +0000 UTC View Post

It's done!  It's huge!  52MB of stuff, with more text and commentary than any issue before it.  Probably.  I didn't count words or anything.

I've tried to up my game with the design etc, and I'm going to go even better for next month.  Your feedback is encouraged.

When it goes wrong...

Sometimes, when I'm beating an image into submission, I'm staring at the same pixels for so long that I lose track of where I've ended up.

Recently I posted an image on NFG.Zone and after I posted it I realized it was...  Well fuck, it's very green isn't it?  

At some point what started off as a beautiful, cool blue image had taken a wrong turn, and the only way I think it could have happened was...

A Sneak Preview!

I had the amazing good luck to shoot a pair of performers from Cirque du Soleil's Avatar show a few days ago.  This is Giulia, and she did things on the straps I can barely believe.  And you should see her on the pole - she came second in the world pole dance championships in Tokyo in 2010 - and she hasn't lost any of her skills since then.

You amazing people see this image first - before she does, even.

Client Shoot: Christie

Christie's got a new act coming up and she was in the NFGstudio to get some promotional images.  Pretty much every part of the shoot was something I'd never done before.  More to come as soon as her crew pick their favourites.

1. I've completely rebuilt the photostream, which is mentioned in the text at the top of this page, but hasn't worked in months because I tore it down for a quick rebuild and hahaha that took longer than expected.

My excellent friends, an update!

I had three great shoots this weekend and I've got some stuff I'm dying to show you.  First, a very pretty girl doing some lasers and silhouettes, then a new girl, on the NFGstudio pole for the first time.    And finally, a performance troupe, featuring a pair of b-boy dancers and a very pretty girl in a tight black skirt.  Here's a tiny teaser.  =D

A little rejiggering!

I've re-jiggered the reward tiers a little bit, making the magazine the focus.  Everyone gets a copy, at every tier.

The big benefit for the $10 and up tiers is the Snapchat access, which will get you some live access to shoot shenanigans.  

Because there's no real difference in rewards for $10 and $20 levels now, I will not be at all surprised or disappointed if anyone drops down a level.  That extra ten bucks is just because you like my stuff that little...

Blog! Busy days.

I had eight girls in the studio for a session last night, and seven this morning.  I'm exhausted.

It's surprisingly tiring being fully activated, chatting and exchanging scathing insults during any photoshoot, but much more so with a large group.  I've gotta be 100% alert to the photos, the lighting, the posing, the angles, and at the same time, wrangle all the athletes and keep 'em focused and performing at their best.

When it's over, back home, I grab some food, then sink int...
