I was going through my hard drive looking at old drawings and sketches and these were some of my faves.

Hi. I still exist.
I'm keeping payments paused for obvious reasons and plan to be back around and posting new comics in a few weeks. Until then I guess I'll try to post unfinished sketches as often as possible?

This is one of the only things I have drawn in the last few weeks. Work has been busy and it's about to get busier - building a new office takes a lot out of you - that instead of drawing before and after hours I've been more likely to just sit with my dog and watch "Suicide Squad".
So, I am keeping payments turned off for the month of August.
I hate completely losing momentum on projects so my plan is to integrate drawing back into my day little by little. ...

I feel like page 13 is taking me twice as long as usual? I blame work - I've been super distracted lately by the day job and I'm letting myself give all my available time for personal work and self care to it. Also, I've been experimenting with using clipping masks to color and the learning curve is sorta slowing down the coloring process. Also Also, suddenly my Procreate won't transfer PSD files over Airdrop so (real up close) my line work is sorta wobbly from being sent as a JPEG.
I try to avoid perfectionism and redoing old work but I am obsessed with consistent character design - I blame my animation background.
Now. Are my character designs consistent across the board? - No and that's because I've made a choice to just barrel ahead on projects and figure out the designs as I go. Also, I know - again: animation background - that it's more effective to try out designs with actual work than it is to do a million of sketches trying to predict how the de...
I'm trying some new shit with word bubbles for the next few pages - going for something that feels a little more organic but not so hand drawn that I have to learn how to draw bubbles by hand in Illustrator.
I'll also be sketching out a few pages at once before putting final linework on any of them because I'm aiming for a lot of fast action and strategic shots as the heat gets turned up for the roommates.
My biggest challenge while writing these new scripts is that Matt is sup...
Apparently, I'm not the only person who liked Comet Guy from Darkwing Duck? In typical post-modern fashion I decided to remake him in the image of all the fascist killer Supermans out there right now: Homelander, Omni Man, Superian, that kid with the cowl and the eyes...

Do I care too much about color? It probably takes me as long if not longer to color than it does to thumbnail, sketch and draw an entire page. I usually sit down in the mornings and color for about an hour and then just leave it open on my computer so I can color a little bit here and there throughout the day.
Sometimes I like the process and sometimes it feels so tedious and methodical - I simultaneously love ...

His name is Wiley and he's a former sidekick turned thug for hire. He's illegally squatting with his boyfriend Carlo on Fortune Lane and working undercover for a public figure who supplies him an illegal performance enhancing drug that increases his physical abilities. He's about 5'8", wears pretty much the same things everyday, has addiction issues and is living day-by-day. He probably has a tattoo I just don't know what it would be at the moment.
He's not a main character in a script...
I love a sitcom. I love a laugh track. I love a 3 camera set up. I love an establishing shot.
My highest personal achievement over the 15 years I drew Abel Boddy was drawing an establishing shot of the apartment building and using that shit over and over and over.
So when starting part two of this 12-Inch story I had to draw the exterior of the roommate's apartment - its the first time I've ever done it and it took longer than it should have but it was totally worth it.

The original 12-inch Roommate strips lacked a coherent storyline. It started as just random dom-sub scribbles: big cock fucks little guy. Done. A lot of the time I would just draw the images and then figure out the dialogue later. I did this less and less as the strip went on and I started trying to make it make sense, but those those first hundred strips are a real slog. IMO. So with these new ones, I'm really trying to get real stories so after finishing part one of chapter one last week, I...

Got all the way through drawing this one and realized the last three panels need to be re-drawn and re-written. So... here's what the first 3 will look like.

In the last year, I've taken two storyboard classes - both were really informative and really good but I didn't really do the work in either of them. I chalked it up to "It's hard to do homework when you have a day job", "My new puppy is a real distraction" - pretty much any excuse that I could come up with. Ultimately, I have a really hard time drawing if I don't like whats coming out of my pencil and storyboarding requires you to let go of your preconceived notions of what "looks good" in f...

My dog stares at me a lot and when he does i think he wants something - which he usually does. Having the dog has been a great way to remind myself to stick to a routine, because every couple of hours something I could be neglecting will shit on the floor.
As the world continues to turn and everything appears to be moving forward (suddenly ALL of my friends are vaccinated) I've really begun to assess what I need to more forward as well. So in my usual fashion I made ...
Purged more reference this week, primarily for the character of Nate in Jockstrap Academy.
Matt of 12-Inch Roommate was originally created for Jockstrap Academy, he was a parody of a High School bully who ran roughshod over anyone and was the house tormentor of the non-athletic characters. When I returned to the concept I could no longer see Matt in the role so I decided to find him a replacement.
First I came up with the name Nate Poundstone - see...

In the spirit of classic sitcoms, one of my goals with the new 12-Inch comics was slapstick. I played with this a little bit in the original comics but I wanted to take it to a higher level. However, I underestimated how difficult it would be for me to achieve my goal visually right out the gate and my attempts at my first big slapstick page: Page Five were much to be desired. So... I put it off and put it off... and put it off again...
Fast forward to now when I've finished the first 1...

In my continued effort to purge reference (also procrastinate), I was looking at the stuff I had collected for Cannen, Jockstrap Academy's bullish loudmouth.
Cannen was inspired by a character of the same name from the 1986 B-movie, Wimps. As a kid, I used to pay special attention to the black characters in movies and TV specifically because there was usually just one and I would think "this character is supposed to be me". I originally modeled my Cannen off of t...

I recently had to remind myself to stop collecting "reference". I can't scroll through Instagram without screengrabbing 5 images for later use when I am "drawing". I have enough already that I've barely used and honestly, how many pictures of half naked guys does one person need. No one on their deathbed has ever uttered the words: "I wish... I found more reference..."
So between raising a sick puppy, my day job and trying to catch up on 12-Inch comics, I've been trying to stre...
