October Rewards sent! + buttons "tutorial"

lol this was a doodle I did for my good friend Shilin... she wanted me to draw her two gay OCs in suits and... I was a bad friend... 

Drawing it made me think "oh, maybe my patrons would like to see how I draw buttons??" LMAO YES OF COURSE... of course... that's what they want Juby, you nailed it...

When it comes to buttons, they're likely very small specks on your picture. So I like to keep it really simple even when I do detail the bigger ones. The above picture shows the really basic process and honestly, I don't do much more than this.

Also I only just realized I included a duplicate file (polaroid-ev.jpg/psd) in the last package, I'm sorry! This one should have the right ones lol...

I've been drawing a lot for my friends this month so I guess November is the Friends bundle lol... I'll be including them on top of a few Inktobers. The context for all these Vlad/Jamie comics can be found in my #witches-cross discord channel!

Inktober part 2

Hello! My Octobers are always full of inks now apparently and I've just begun scanning some of this month's stuff. While I'm a bit bummed that most of the sparkles and glitter work doesn't show, I think the scans look nice and crisp. The raven drawing is from last year, but I didn't finish until this year haha...

As I've said before, I'm making a little compilation of these drawings into a sketchbook not unlike my Dreamscape one. I'm considering adding more text in this one though, for context and maybe include some photos that show off the glitter haha...  what do you guys think?

Inktober + sketches

Hello!! I've been trying to regulate my diet to a stricter guideline to help with my health. So far I think it might be helping, but I'm not sure since my illness flares up in waves too. We'll see!!

I'll be sending out September's rewards in the coming days. I did get a shiny new tablet (Huion Kamvas Pro 22 2019) and I love it!! I just haven't gotten around to doing any colour illustrations on it yet... I want to finish up that family portrait variation I started a few months ago and include it in the September package too.

Meanwhile, please enjoy some of the inktobers (and their accompanying secret sketches lol) I've been trying to do. That inkxiety still going strong LOL I'm so tired

I'm going to compile the ink pieces from last year and this year into a little booklet, like I did with my sketches. Thanks a lot for your support!

So... my cintiq died LOL. It's been dead since last week and after trying out a new adapter for it, I realized it was an internal hardware issue, probably some fried chips. (I'm hungry) I've had it for nearly 7 years so I had to let it go, since I can't get hardware support from Wacom from Canada. >_> I ordered a new tablet which is due to arrive next week. I just wanted to keep you guys in the loop since I haven't... been drawing digitally at all... LOL...

Meanwhile I am tentatively excited about Inktober! I want to get comfortable with inking on paper. I'm guessing there will be lots of those in the coming weeks.

Hello! There should be 6 high res image files for $5+ patrons. One CT page, one pencil sketch (no PSD for this one), and 4 colour illustrations. Studio Chiffon (makers of the VN "Softly, With Teeth") was kind enough to let me share the "polaroid" images as rewards so they'll be going out 2 at a time.

If you haven't received a message containing your rewards, it's because your pledge hasn't been processed yet. But don't worry, I send out the rewards in a couple of waves. :3

Softly, with teeth

I also did these mock polaroids for Studio Chiffon's VN "Softly, With Teeth," where you date vampires among other beings. It was a pretty last minute job so I left the early previews in the discord only. I just thought to post this here for anyone who might have missed it. Although it's a commission set, I think I'll include one of these pieces in the rewards just to show how I did them.

Hello! Oh boy... where do I start.

I have been very unwell this month and I spent a long time debating what to do about my responsibilities. I have already dropped some external obligations but I'm mainly trying to focus on my health.

I am very sorry to say I will have to take another extended break from Cut Time. It's by far the most work intensive part of my freelancing and desperately don't have enough healthy days to dedicate to it. ):

I think this is all I can manage to drop for the time being -- I'm keeping my patreon and my shop open. I can still share previous Cut Time pages in high res if that's what everyone wants!

The reason I have been quiet is that, trying to work despite my constant struggles with my health burnt me out completely for a while, and I hadn't been drawing -- or when I would try, I couldn't produce anything worthwhile. It's been so depressing!! I've never encountered such a period in my freelance life. Anyway, thank you kindly for your patience and support. It really means a lot to me in these trying times o(-<

Watches preview

Hello! I'm on my bullsh*t again and designing accessories for my characters lol

I think this marks the end of June's package. I will have it sent out after the 8th, when I return from Ohio. JC is leaving the country for an indefinite amount of time so I'm super sad but life must go on. ):

I drew this back in April (actually, I drew the hugging one then too) when I was bedridden for most of my days but received a lovely package from a friend which cheered me up a lot. I draw a lot of my #relatable emotions through Jamie haha... she's just so easy to channel my feelings through. This is to everyone who gives me things to marvel at during my rough days, including you guys. I actually talked about everyone who supports me (via patreon or otherwise) to my therapist last week and I cried a whole bunch in gratitude, and he cried too LOL... Anyway, thank you so much.

He made a very busty teacher character for his little fake fighting game community project on his discord called "Occupational Hazard." I try to give him something different every year so! I wanted to draw her.

I've been feeling very burnt out lately; my health hasn't really improved but I've still been trying to truck through everything haha... So I spent some time on some self indulgent things like... sh*tposting...  

To be honest I have no idea what show this is even from, I just saw it going around and thought this was very appropriate for these two LOL

Also I know I finished this illustration but I ended up playing with a different palette and a different backdrop... I am probably going to finish up this version next month when I can find the time and energy.

Kabedon and watches pt 1

Hello!! Sorry about the quiet.  I wanted to make sure I had some presentable drawings ready haha...

壁ドン (kabedon) is the Japanese term for interactions involving cornering someone against a wall. usually with romantic/sexual tension. It's one of my favourite tropes ever so I wanted to draw them out LOL.

I also want a fancy new watch. My annual thirst for accessories continues.

I will be sending out the $5+ rewards sometime this week! May was full of b&w work. I will post them as I finish cleaning them up a bit.

I got invited to a friend's suit anthology but I honestly had a hard time coming up with an idea so this is one of those few times I laid out a bunch of thumbs LOL... 

I've been having a hard time with the perspectives tbh LOL... Even though I drew a grid I think I made it too dynamic to begin with so I had a hard time following it. xDD hopefully it doesn't look too wonky by the time I'm done... I'm on track to finish this by the next reward package!! I'm excited to send off this mammoth of a PSD LOL.

A health status update!

I finally got to see my doctor and I am getting some treatment so hopefully I won't have to go on medical leave...! With that said I am just so tired all the time it might be a good idea to take a week or so off... xD But I'm okay! I'm sorry if I caused much concern. Page 184 breakdown

I don't often do this, but maybe I should do it more often seeing as I have a lot to say on comic layouts. I was actually very pleased with how I laid out this page because of how well it read even though it doesn't really look at all remarkable in the end. It takes some critical thinking to make a page read well, with the correct beats. 

There are two things happening here: the dialogue exchange (as seen above) and the movement of the characters via the visual trajectory, as seen below:

Comic book pages are weird in that they're cinematic like storyboards for film but they also have to be stacked upon each other to create flow and order, in a way that is presented with good composition that aids in moving the eyes in a specific trajectory.

The thing doing the brunt of the work in a lot of my page layouts is the speech bubble placement, to string along the eyes from one panel to the next in the proper order. I pay a lot of attention to where and how they're placed so the reader doesn't get confused.

But once you're done reading, you can take in the overall character behaviour between panels because I managed to group the two panels with Rel and the two panels with Nal.

Anyway I thought this might be insightful. I might do a little series on principles of comic page layouts in general, if anyone is interested.

Also, as for my health... I'm still not doing any better and I don't find out until next week as to what has been happening, leaving me kind of stumped and useless for the time being. As a result there probably won't be a new CT page this week ><. I will continue to keep everyone updated. Thank you kindly for your patience and support. ♥
