Inspirational Insights - The Masters - Gerard Ter Borch

Hello Bourbons and Habsburgs.

I'd like to introduce you to a major group of artists that inspired me very much from the very beginning of my modding work. To The Old Masters this is.

Namely, I'd like to mention some of the famous 17 century Dutch and Flemish painters. Here is the first one of them - Gerard Ter Borch.

His father Gerard Ter Borch the Elder was also a painter. ...

Announcement - A Slight Delay

Hello There Dear Patrons,

I wanted to prepare the Mystique Lilies Retex release this week, but something quite unexpected happened.

I had to remove one of my wisdom teeth but unfortunately the socket doesn't heal well. So, a pro tip to you guys. Don't wash your mouth too much after a tooth extraction. You can get rid of the clot covering the socket like I did. I have to go to a dental surgeon every two days now to check if everyth...

I progressed a bit with the Mystique Lilies Retex during the last two days.

  • The stitching is redone and much finer
  • The leather panels were adjusted and stitched (there are two separate layers of stitches - the white ones on the velvet and the black ones on the leather)
  • I also traced the leather appliques in Corel Draw (luckily there are lot...

Work In Progress - 1640 Rembrandt Gown Bodice

Hey there Patrons,

recently I started to model the new 1640 Rembrandt Gown in Max. Let me show you the first silhouette.

I wanted to focus on the bodice in the first place, so I modelled it anew. I also wanted to alter the sleeves and the neckline a bit (in comparison to the inspiration you guys chose) to make them look a bit more sumptuous).

I attach some images of the general form. The sle...

Inspirational Insights - Orlando

Before we'll get the Retex Poll results, let's dive into some inspirational stuff.

If you are into historical societies and fashions, I strongly recommend you a 1992 Sally Potter movie entitled Orlando. Starring Tilda Swinton.

It's a loose adaptation of Wirginia Woolf's novel, which tells a story of a young man born in Elizabethan England that swore to the Queen he would never grow old. Therefore he lives through ...

Poll - A New Retex On The Way

Hello there dear Habsburgs :)

More decisions are to be made. The new outfit poll ends in four days, so please vote if you haven't done that yet. I have to say that the results aren't that easy to predict for now. ;)

I also thought I'd like to do a retex in the nearest future. That's why I'd like to ask you:

Which outfit shall I retexture, for a Patreon-exclusive retex?

Some news coming up:

Poll - Another Big Project

Hi there dear Habsburgs :)

As promised, I need your help with picking a main inspiration for the upcoming big project of mine. I really wanted to stay in the ca 17 century period, since that's definitely my favourite one and it's quite close to Skyrim.

I've prepared some really nice inspirations for you to choose from. Tinaa also asked me to add something Victorian to the set, so I've also found one nice 19 centur...

Inspirational Insights - The Miniaturist

Hello dear Patrons,

I hope you're enjoying the MDP Outfit LE and SE versions and I also hope that the Habsburgs are enjoying the Victorian Cape too :)

Staying in my recent 17 century mood, I'd like to mention today one of my favorite miniseries. It's a 2017 Guillem Morales picture entitled The Miniaturist.

It's a dramatic and intriguing story of a 17 century...

Work In Progress - Victorian Cape Screen Tests

Thanks to zzjay's Triss I did a bunch of screen tests for the newest Victorian Cape Neck Piece. The first rig wasn't working well but after rethinking it a bit it started to make sense.

Still working on the tulle tex to lower the mesh scale a little bit more. But I'm quite satisfied with the overall look. I think I'll be preparing an updated Accessories package pretty soon :)

Work In Progress - Victorian Cape Embroidery

It's time for some finishing touches to the Victorian Cape Neck Piece textures in Substance Painter. Time to decorate the plain mesh material with some nice floral embroidery.

At first I thought I would draw the whole thing by hand, but I came up with an idea of drawing just a fragment in a vector graphics editor and then distribute it all over the neckpiece main form as a stamp - only rotating and trim...

Work In Progress - Victorian Cape Neck Piece Materials

This weekend I was able to put the Victorian Cape Neck Piece model into a Substance Painter project and worked on the materials a bit.

I'm really happy with the initial result, especially the jewelry. I'm not so happy with the flowers height maps though, since they look too much like made of clay ;) I will have to work with the height maps a bit more this week.

Keep your fingers crossed for the material refinements View Post

Work In Progress - Victorian Cape Neck Piece Jewelry

Hi guys,

moving on with the modeling of the new cape/neck piece. During last few days I focused on the jewelry.

I've drawn the general shape flat, edited the geometry to keep most of the faces as quads, and then added some thickness using "shell" modifier (remembering to enable the "strip" edge mapping option to automatically create UVWs for the edges ;) ).

Then I added some...

Work In Progress - The Victorian Cape Neck Piece Modeling

So it has begun,

I'm sculpting the new Victorian Cape inspired neck piece. I started with my previous Elf Queen neck piece and remodeled it quite drastically. I added the tulle flowers and the tulle cape elements.

I simulated the tulle cape parts using the cloth modifier to add randomness to their form. also the flowers needed a moment of focus to model.

I also used Advanced Painter<...
