we all scream for ice cream!
we took these right before we moved to the netherlands in austin, texas, at one of our favorite ice cream shops: jeni's splendid ice creams. the flavor was rocket pop which was an amazing frozen yogurt version of the famous rocket pop popsicles in the US (which are sort of like the rocket pop popsicles in the netherlands but with different flavors).

so instead, we rented our favorite private sauna and had a refreshing cold plunge there.

we decided to throw out our original plan for the vlog this week and just treat ourselves.

a couple of weeks ago, we visited a (relatively) new food hall in rotterdam.
it's called station bergweg, and it's in an old train station that's been decomissioned since 2006. it's kept a lot of its train station vibes, namely the old status boards for the platforms.
the food is amazing too. so we wanted to document it. last week, we went back and filmed this little video for y'all. really, we can't recommend visiting this place enough.

a random assortment of instax photos from the past few weeks.
we made a pseudo-thanksgiving meal at home, substituting turkey with a rotisserie chicken from the market, along with green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy, and stove top stuffing from the expat shop, with michelle's pie for dessert!

there's a recent trend of new instant cameras (i.e. polaroid and instax) being made that have actual, real glass lenses, which means that the end result can be remarkably high quality. and while these are a bit blurry, the photos are actually super crispy irl. i've gotta work on the scanning bit...
anyway... we've been mostly stuck inside for the past week. here are the results :)

for part two, it's a bit of a hodgepodge... we made a few stops on the trip back.
bombay beach (on the salton sea) - this is a sort of art community (but it also just has a lot of folks who want to live cheaply and be far from society) in a little town that used to be a beautiful, popular resort town, but some bad decisions made by the state many decades ago salinated the sea and made it pretty inhospitable to tourists (and animals and fish). it's another time capsule in the desert.

vegetarian vlammetjes? terrible. vlamtostis? not quite right. but vlammetjes are SO GOOD. it's one of our most guilty pleasures here in the netherlands. so in this video, we set out to recreate the vlamtosti, with vegetarian filling, to create something that we don't feel quite as guilty about eating.
