Patreon Policy Changes
Added 2024-08-12 20:21:46 +0000 UTCWe just received word from Patreon that their billing policies will be changing due to requirements from Apple and Apple’s requirement that all purchases on IOS devices go through the Apple Store. This means firstly that billing on the 1st of the month will no longer be an option for any Patreon subscribers in order to comply with Apple’s terms. Going forward, billing date will be determined by the date you begin your subscription. Patreon says that this will not affect current subscribers already being charged on the 1st of every month.
But it also means that Apple will be taking a 30% cut of all Patreon subscriptions paid through the Apple Store. Unfortunately, that will result in a lot of Patreon creators to proportionately increase subscription costs for patrons who are paying through Apple/IOS. That includes us. If you subscribe to us through the Patreon App on IOS/Apple devices, this means your subscription costs will increase by 30% compared to patrons using other means. To avoid this, we recommend signing up and maintaining your subscription directly through Patreon’s website.
We will be implementing these changes ourselves at the end of September or the beginning of October, after that wave of VIP mailouts. We apologize for any inconvenience this will cause, but this is out of our hands. Thank you all so much for you support and understanding!

2024-08-13 17:29:41 +0000 UTCA work around for the future is remove the Patreon app so it’s not through the App Store. Go to safari and log in like you normally would on a web browser. Then add that page to your Home Screen. Basically like having the app but it’s still through the web browser. Then when you add new subs after this change it should be through the browser which won’t have the 30% increase (I think)

I can’t see anything under my apple account for a subscription or any payments to Patreon, I only see the payments through PayPal. So I’m not sure if this will apply to me or not.

2024-08-13 01:40:45 +0000 UTCYes, you would need to cancel and subscribe again through the website to avoid the additional fee. But wait until after the September payment goes through to cancel so I can keep track of the tier subs for the mailouts just in case. Then you can resub on October 1st. <3

If you are using the Apple Patreon App subscription then yes, you would need to cancel and subscribe through Patreon itself, but I would wait to do that at the beginning of October. <3

I feel bad for Apple users, but if the cost goes up across the whole board, it will suck that non apple users are being punished for them making even more dumbass decisions.
