Hello everyone!
Update January 23th
Can't believe I could finish him today, but it's done. I am currently preparing files to put him in the printer later tonight.
The pose was not the one I was imagining because his Ears got in the Way, I lost my morning trying but I gave up and went with this pose.
There will be 2 versions of Him, Mohawk, and Bun. On the Bun version, there is a blindfold that can be removed using Blender or Meshmixer. For Hand options, there is a bigger sword, a short, and a closed fist. If you wish you can print 2 closed fists and remove the hands on the blades to glue them on the character back (I'm sure it will look cool). The flag is optional and can be glued to the back.
Update January 22th
Today I have detailed more bits of armor, made the Flag, the weapons, and additional head/hair.
I am now ready to pose, to finish sculpting. After posing I will sculpt the pants and the bottom half of the Kimono.
I had a good reference for a nice facial expression for him but I lost... I will search again. The pose I wanted to make won't be possible for a modular miniature so I will make a neutral badass samurai/blade master pose.
If you have a pose in mind, don't hold back, there's still time to change my mind.
Update January 21th
I started detailing the armor bits, started with the foot, and went up. I will add details to the shirt.
While messing with the model I have added a bandana to the head... I think I will make her a second option for the model. The flag will be an optional Item to glue on the finished model, the back armor should be a good contact point for this.
It was not in my initial plans but I will make his hands modular and I will make smaller swords to dual wield (or not).
Update January 20th
I have started to block out some shapes with low poly objects. This time I am doing things a bit different from what I usually do. Normally I make poly by poly and try to build the shape (Poly modeling on Blender habits) but this time I decided to trust a bit more on the sculpting tools.
The result is that I have reduced a lot of time thinking about the character and ended up really doing something.
I will now finish adding more shapes to the model before I start refining the shapes.
I decided to have a small beard on him (without it he look too young). The flag on his back is just a temporary object.
It's still too early and everything is subject to change. If you have any requests or ideas, please share them.
--End of Update--
The last Sentinel is currently printing and I have started collecting info for the Next hero, Felenor Wildleaf he is a Night Elf Blademaster, they do not exist in-game, at least that I know off, but I thought It would be cool to make.
The first stage of a sculpt starts with a concept, since I don't draw, I have to grab references to make my sculpts more detailed. Having a good imagination won't make me go that far.
For unknown reasons, except the fact that it's cool, his hair will be a Mohawk. I might make a few modifications. I don't think I will sculpt a beard for him, if someone request this I will add it as a Variation.
What is a Blademaster? Good point, let's check on the Wiki for a sec... Ok, They are Legendary Orc Warriors known for their mastery over blades (Sword, Spear, or Axe), after passing the final test he is given the honor of wearing the banner. Nice.
Cloths: In many references, Blademasters wear some sort of Japanese style clothing and sandals, even though other orcs don't wear Japanese style clothing. Their flags I have 0 clues how it's glued to their backs most in-game models just let them fly lol, but I won't. For a Night Elf Blademaster, I will try to stick with the same style as an Orc Blademaster would, I will try not to make a Samurai Night Elf, but some similarities will be visible. He will be wearing some baggy Hakamas.
For Weapon, Between the Blademasters weapon of choice, I think I will go with the Sword. I have picked some references and will mix them to create a new blade.
For his armor, I will use metal and wood as materials and some feathers to make a style.
His banner will be fixed on his back with some leather straps, I won't draw on the Banner I like to leave this kind of thing to the imagination of the one's painting.
For the pose, for now, I think a Mitsurugi kind of pose will make him look badass.
Feel free to leave comments below what do you think.
Best regards,
Ivo
