Very important information about the semantics of this world. Since there are many more anthropomorphic species than just the human one, and the feminine sex is absent (I will iron out that part later), "man" is a generic term applied to every adult individual. The fact that G. the Gorilla names a merman a "man with a fishtail" does mean that he looked anthropomorphic in his upper half. Not that this half is human.
Yeah, it could be discussed that the term "man" implies that the individual is hu/man, and that's a specist term in this worldbuilding.
But I don't see many people claiming about "woman" being a sexist term because it's a specification over the term "man", like being a man is the default state of a human being and the feminine gender is just a variation.
So we can roll with that.
