Dev Build - Some Next Level Gaining

Hey, remember when I said "the hard part was over" in my last WIP post? Well, I was horribly mistaken! Implementing the level up system turned out to be a way bigger task than I expected hence the delay. I had to tweak nearly every system in the game to account for all the weird fringe cases that cropped up during tests. I think they are all ironed out now, but I wouldn't be surprised if I missed a bug here or there. (so feel free to lmk if you run into any strangeness)

Anyway, I've divided up gaining weight into multiple levels or weight classes. The Weight Class menu (formerly Body Shape menu) can be used to keep track of your current weight class and your progress to the next one. Fill the bar to unlock the button for the next class and click it when you are ready to level up. Each weight class will take more feeding to fill the bar than the previous one. Once the bar is full, you won't gain anymore weight until you level up to the next class.

You can also press the Reset Weight Class button to reset your progress to the next weight class. Or click the Reset To Skinny button to go all the way back to the beginning. Additionally, I left the blob buttons in so you can skip ahead to blob size or any of the other blob shapes. These might be removed once I have a skinny-to-blob version for each blob shape or maybe they'll be relegated to a cheats menu.

In the long run, I plan to have multiple upgrade choices available for some of these weight classes instead of just one button every time. This would basically be the branching upgrade trees I mentioned before, allowing some body shape variance as you upgrade your way to an eventual blob shape.

I wanted to get the fat face/limbs option working for these in-between sizes, but it turns out that's going to be a big hassle and I didn't want to delay this build any longer. Hopefully that'll be working in the next one. I did manage to add a V-Sync option in the settings menu that will sync frame rate with your monitor's refresh rate. Hopefully this fixes the screen tearing issues some have been having.

That's all for now. Thanks for your patience with this one and feel free to share any feedback or ideas you have as I flesh this stuff out. Tbh, this update took a lot out of me, so I think the next one will be something much simpler so I can recover some sanity. Maybe a new map and some minor features or cosmetics. So keep an eye out for a poll in the near future. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy!

Dev Build - Some Next Level Gaining

Comments

Yes I'll try to add that in the next build. For now you can try the shortcut suggestion someone mentioned in the comments of this post.

blobygon

Would it be possible to add window and aspect settings in the game soon? It’s stuck in a box window for me and can’t change it for some reason

JB

Honestly would love to add a inflation option (more a squishy round ball type though~) for food inflation fans, and levels or farting and burping for different sizes! Maybe even a pop option or the like, some kind of climatic finish if you overfeed and overstuff her too much too quickly...I mean, I would honestly pay to have those added~

Josh_the_changeling

This is an amazing update. Love it!

LeftHandManGary

Great idea, I didnt even know you could do this. I will be sure to add some resolution options to the next build.

Thanks

Hey I have the same setup, 2560x1080, but I found a work around that gives you a little bit more control with the window size. Honestly, it's a little more complicated than the hotkey, but this does allow the game to start in window mode and, as I said before, can control the window size. 1. Create a shortcut to the game 2. Right click the shortcut and go to properties 3. Go to the line that says 'target' and add this after the " -screen-fullscreen 0 4. if you want to control the window size, enter this -screen-fullscreen 0 -screen-height 720 -screen-width 1280 5. Click apply 6. Use the shortcut to open the game 7. Enjoy :) I would suggest to add this shortcut in the next build for convince until the option for the screen size is available.

Glad you enjoy it! Yeah that's kind of a quirk of the soft body physics sim. It doesn't try to preserve the shape's volume so some situations will cause it to twist and collapse in on itself. And yeah the manual level up button isnt ideal but its the only way I've found to get around some of the limitations

blobygon

the new size is fun! Seeing Jill slowly waddle around like that. I did encounter a bug where if she turns around against a wall at the maximum size before 'blob'. She kinda... folds into herself?? it does fairly quickly correct itself, though. Big fan of the camera settings that were added last update too! My only real complaint is that it is mildly annoying having to manually press the button to advance to the next weight class- but I see that there unfortunately apparently isn't a way around that. All in all, very good updates!

MemeMarsh

I see. Thanks for the explanation.

GraniteAssFA

I considered adding that, but unfortunately there are certain conditions that cause a lot of problems when swapping rigs during the level up animation. If the character is moving or eating during the swap it will break the rig. That's why some of the buttons occasionally say "Busy." This is to prevent people from pressing them during these situations. If it auto leveled, the rig swap could happen during one of these conditions and break stuff.

Looks like your screen has a 21:9 aspect ratio. That's an unusually wide screen size that I didn't plan for so I can see why some of the screen would get cut off. Thanks for letting me know. I will look into adding support for it. In the meantime I would suggest trying to override the monitor's resolution in Windows and see if there are any settings that allow you to see the rest of the screen. Otherwise you might have to use a more standard display that's 16:9 or 16:10 for now. Sorry about that!

blobygon

just tried the windowed mode it didn't work, don't what else to do.

jeffrey b spitzer

the resolution on my machine is 2560x1080, and its been happening for the last few builds too, I didn't know about the alt+enter trick though thanks for that.

jeffrey b spitzer

Pretty cool. Just a minor suggestion, but would it be possible to add an option that automatically levels up the character once the bar is full?

GraniteAssFA

Hmm that's a strange one. What is the resolution of your display? It should format itself to fit whatever your screen size is, but there might be issues with unusual aspect ratios. You can try switching to windowed mode by pressing Alt + Enter and see if that helps at all. Ooc, does this happen with older builds too?

blobygon

Cool! I'll add this as a poll option

blobygon

hey ive got a problem where the game zooms in to much and i cant get to the weight options at the bottom of the screen, any ideas?

jeffrey b spitzer

If you're taking a suggestion now a small village like Rothenberg ob der Tauber (in Germany it is really cool). Central market stalls could be where the food is at. If that is possible of course

Bioshock God

Yep I'll make a poll for that soon. I'm also open to any suggestions if you got em

blobygon

If it is a map are you going to have another map vote or do you already have something in mind?

Bioshock God

Yeah I can see how some kind of notification would be useful for that. I'll see what I can do. I plan to work on something simpler and more straight forward for the next update. Probably a new map and some more minor improvements and/or cosmetics. Glad to hear the Vsync worked!

blobygon

I'll keep that in mind next time I add more hair styles.

blobygon

Played the new update and love the new weight stage. I think this is a really good start as a base. My only criticism is I think there should be a sound that plays (like a bike's bell or something) whenever you're able to pass on to the next stage. I found myself unhiding the menu a lot to check to see where I was. Outside of that, very good update and thank you for adding V-Sync my game runs very smooth now. If you don't mind me asking, what do you plan on working on after this?

Bioshock God

Liking the new update, hopefully this new leveling system helps with the transition into blob phase. Not sure if this is something you want to do (I have no idea what goes into modeling) but perhaps you could add a few more hair styles that look a bit more unkempt and disheveled? Want to make a character that look like she doesn't have her life together quite yet, and the hairstyles currently available don't really give off that feeling

Thomas Olson

This looks really good! Definitely loving the WG level up feature. And don’t worry take all the time you need if you have to work out any kinks or bugs before the next update. ^^
