Paul the key word is "obvious" goal scoring opportunity and Saka's wasn't obvious.

It interesting that our expectations of when players should/are allowed to close down space between themselves and the attacker changes depending on their position in relation to both the goal and each other. If the shooter was in front of him, we would expect Luiz to close down the space between himself and the shooter, and I that is what he is doing when he get sent off. I think he’s just trying to get close, without challenging the player.

I think it’s more that there’s no conspiracy and everyone wants the rule applied fairly and correctly but in chasing that precision we’ve maybe made the rules too strenuously applied. I think his point is that it’s led us to a place where red cards and penalties are now just too easy to give away

Tims take on the inconsistencies on the red cards was embarrassing to listen to Jesus. What's wrong with want the laws of the game applied fairly and correctly.

There is kind of an assumption that when a foul is commited a player either tried to play the ball or the man- in the case of Luiz i don't think he does either so because the rules say if you play the ball you get a yellow, he gets punished harshly because the assumption is the only alternative is playing the man. It's just a general lack of nuance and common sense in the rules of the game.
