Figured I'd film a quick bit while I was in the car about to sort some things out at the post office. There are now over 700 orders, with about 10 being sent out...this is going to be a long weekend, but I think I'll manage (eventually). The hardest part so far has been extracting all the names and addresses. PayPal isn't built for several hundred transactions on the same page and gets bogged down VERY easily, so I've had to get creative. And plus, there are certain orders I need to fix (eith...

Don't worry, the Lab-Cola flavor samples are on the way (and they're still for sale)! They just might be delayed by a few weeks. Why? Well, you absolute maniacs managed to buy several hundred samples on the FIRST DAY, and you pushed the video to get over 1,000,000 views in under 24 hours! This is officially my best performing video BY FAR...making safrole root beer was my top video, and it took 16 days to hit 1M views! Thank you all so much for the support, and I hope you can understand the d...

This is the rough draft I have for the final Coca Cola replication video. It's mostly done, but there are still a few touch-ups I need to do. I feel bad for rarely providing my supporters with more than 12 hours of early access, so for this very special video, I'm posting early access as early as I can (I'll update the video as newer versions get edited and uploaded)!
I'd like to thank everyone for their patience, this was supposed to be done well before Christmas, but it turns out Coca...

Merry Christmas! I was in a rush to finish my video by Christmas weekend (looking more like December 31st now lol), and thought I had my Coca Cola replica finalized, so I sent it off to Vince at "Neptunium" one last time for analysis and a taste test. Unfortunately, his mass spectrometer broke down, so I'm going to have to go with the mass spectrum for one of my older (but chemically VERY similar) colas. Also, after I mailed this version to him, I went to taste test it with some friends and e...

Which of these videos do you want to see first?? I'm excluding options that are already in development (i.e. the tornado probe project, replicating Coca Cola, building a 50BMG plasma gun, making taurine, etc). Whichever one wins, I'll try over my winter break!
Honestly, I'll probably end up doing all of these eventually, so don't worry too much if your favorite doesn't get the vote. Also, if you have a better project idea, comment it below! I might give it a shot!

The fall semester at OU is coming to a close here in the next few weeks, and boy do I have my work cut out for me...not so much with college (I only have two classes at the moment, and neither are unbearably difficult), but with YouTube! I've been promoting the whole "stealing the Coca Cola secret formula" thing for months now, and with Coke releasing yet another terrible AI holiday ad, I figure it's about time I buckled down and finished the project while the hype (or hate?) is still up.

As usual, sorry for the short-notice early access. I wanted this to be done a few days ago, but college work took longer than expected. Either way, here is my "quick" video, hopefully I will have more coming soon! I really want the Coca Cola video done soon, so I can capitalize off the failure of their abominable AI holiday ad!

I was making a small batch of magnesium silicide for that "electric salsa" video, and it might have accidentally turned into a runaway magnesium fire...which you can see in the video above

I feel like I say this a lot, but the videos are still coming along (the tornado probe video, Coca Cola replication, and plasma rifle, plus any others I might've mentioned along the way). However, I saw this clip on 'Daily Dose Of Internet' for the second time now, and I'm doing a quick side-quest video to explain it.
According to Daily Dose, the salsa is "somehow producing electricity", and some people actually seem to believe that, with one of the top comments attempting to explain it...

I'm working on my next video right now, but it might be a while before it airs (or before I have it ready for early access). So, to tide everyone over, here is a quick sneak peak I put together for fans and friends! I know chemistry is kinda my thing, but every so often, I work on something a little off-brand...usually a build, high voltage projects, or something involving tornado chasing. This time, it's the last one! Hope you all still enjoy, more chemistry will inevitably be coming!

I was hoping "performance enhancer from bug spray" would be done sooner than today, so that I could post it as early access for everyone, but things have been kinda busy. In fact, the final video probably won't be done until late tonight! I still want you all to have SOMETHING though, so here is the rough draft I sent to the sponsor, Flexispot. It's missing a few animations, transitions, and video segments, but it's most of the way done if you want to check it out before the main video airs t...

I'm working on the "performance enhancer from bug spray" video right now, which should be done hopefully this week (or next week if I'm unlucky). September 25th is the sponsor deadline, so it'll definitely be before that!
It's been a busy month. I've been balancing college stuff like homework and trying to get a job lined up before I graduate, all while working on this video and several more, including:
The full-length tornado probe/chasing video. Probably a pretty long vi...

As many of you know, I've been trying to steal the Coca Cola secret formula with mass spectrometry for a few months now. And how close are we after all this time? Well...we're actually almost perfect!
Above, you can see the GC-MS spectrums for Coca Cola (top) and my Z-84 clone (bottom). Big thanks to "Neptunium" for his continual support with the analysis! Ignoring the height of certain peaks, they're almost identical! The main differences appear to be:
The amount of citru...

I was cleaning out some old SD cards, and found this little clip. This was filmed back in February 2021 in the early days of LabCoatz, before I had a half-acceptable camera and before I really got into home chemistry...you might be able to tell, since I had "never actually smelled ether", which is a common solvent that I now have a few liters of, lol. I was kinda experimenting with a handheld "Explosions&Fire" video format, which was easy and minimal effort, but obviously not the style I ...

After reacting the 75g of 2-bromoethylamine hydrobromide with 52g sodium sulfite and boiling down, I was left with cake of discolored taurine and sodium bromide. To purify it, I had to wash the mass several times with concentrated hydrochloric acid, which apparently dissolves taurine quite well without taking up much bromide. The acid extracts were then combined, boiled down to about 70mL, and mixed with 290mL of ethanol to crash out the taurine. The solid taurine was finally filtered and rec...

For a while now, I've been wanting to make taurine (a common energy drink ingredient...and the one urban legends say come from bull testicles lol), and I'm happy to say the synthesis has been going pretty well! The first step was making 2-bromoethylamine hydrobromide, which might sound complicated, but was as simple as refluxing hydrobromic acid and ethanolamine for several hours with breaks to distill off water as it formed. Taking away the water helps push the reaction forward, because havi...

I'm hoping to get a video out by Saturday, in an effort to remain on some form of upload schedule. Sadly, this means probably no time for early access, so here's one of my favorite bits from the video, which is about making sulfur trioxide/oleum and a devastating new form of piranha solution!
Regular piranha solution is made by mixing 30% hydrogen peroxide and 98% sulfuric acid, and it does a pretty good job eating most organic materials. For this video though, I made it with 65% oleum ...

Fun fact: this is 15X WEAKER than I'm hoping for! I just had some 450-volt 3300uF capacitors leftover from building my DRSSTC two years ago, and figured I might as well experience 1kJ before I do 15kJ, lol. Could also be useful for experimenting with nozzle designs and whatnot, but we'll see! I ordered some of the stuff I'll be needing, but I still need to put down the $1,000 on the capacitors...

Yes, we're actually doing this, and no, the image isn't photoshopped...or a handgun muzzle flash lol. I love chemistry, and I have a lot of chemistry projects in the works, but after working on the same Coca Cola project for months (and the fireworks video for most of June, which kinda flopped), I've kinda been looking for a change of pace.
Back in 2021, before LabCoatz had even 3,000 subscribers and I was only a sophomore at OU, I saw this video by James Hoopman (James H or @PlasmaFrea...

Oh boy, it's rush time! I spent the week filming like crazy (including the drone shots seen above, which sadly didn't come out as perfectly framed as I wanted...it's hard to guess where everything will shoot and how high), and finally recording the audio, which I'm editing now. With a little luck, I might be able to publish by tomorrow, but it'll be CLOSE. Here's hoping! Happy 4th of July to all my patrons, you all make content like this possible for me to film, and I'm very grateful for your...

I'm hoping to get a lot more shots like this for all of the different effects I made, but for now, this was the best I could manage in just my backyard! It was a pretty cool shot, but I didn't know how high the stars would be shot, so the drone was a bit too low. Tomorrow, I'll load up a bunch of these and take them out to an open field to film! Hard to say if the video will be done by the 4th of July, but I really don't have too much else to film aside from these star mines, a few smoke bomb...

Did you know the crackle (aka dragon eggs) in fireworks actually comes from a type of thermite? As it turns out, if you swap the iron oxide with a mix of bismuth trioxide (up to 70%) and copper oxide (and maybe change some of the aluminum out for magnalium), you go from a slow-burning incendiary to an angry explosive, which can be formed into tiny "microstars" that give all of our classic fireworks their crackle!
The mix I tested was 71% bismuth trioxide, 14% black copper oxide, 10% ma...

Decided to pound every pyrotechnic color I've made (as well as some titanium glitter mix) into one fountain, and the results weren't disappointing!
In case you're curious about the compositions:
Titanium glitter: 44% potassium nitrate, 33% titanium, 11% charcoal, 6% sulfur, 6% dextrin
Red, green: 50% ammonium perchlorate, 35% nitrate (barium for green, strontium for red), and 15% red gum
Orange: 55% ammonium perchlorate, 15% sodium nitrate, 15...

This is just some footage of me testing my copper oxide blue stars (70% ammonium perchlorate, 15% copper oxide, 15% red gum). I tested quite a few blue compositions tonight, and I think I'm starting to get a feel for how to film these things lol! Shimizu blue #2 was probably my favorite...it's color was more of a light sky blue, while the others were at least trying to be a deeper blue, but it lacked the reddish flame envelop that the AP/red gum/CuO mixes had, making it feel more like a full ...

Pardon any odd faces I might've made in the video, they were mostly for the thumbnail (idk what I'll actually end up using, these might just be fun bloopers lol) and the rest were me trying to ignore the mosquitoes. Still unsure if the video will be done by next weekend, but here's hoping! I spent yesterday and today mixing up a LOT of compositions for me to...

Much like the Coca Cola video (which I am still working on), this fireworks video is quickly going from "hey, this is a quick easy video idea" to "dear God, what did I get myself into??"
I challenged myself to create basically every type of consumer firework and effect (aside from the explosive types, which the ATF and YouTube might frown upon that), and so far, I'm still milling black powder and waiting for my ammonium perchlorate to show up, lol! This video is a quick test I did for a...
