Extinct Creatures #5

Sorry I didn't post one of these last week, I was driving across the country with my mom and the internet was a little bit unreliable. So I'll post two this week! And hopefully there will be a Sistertime eventually... whenever Maddie stops "having a good time with her family and working two jobs" and sends me the files.

Continuing with last week's theme of "scaly Triassic weirdos", here are two such weirdos. The first is Smok wawelski, one of the largest predators in the Triassic, and a bit of a mystery. It looks quite like a dinosaur, but based on some important anatomical differences it's thought they are actually a different kind of archosaur that just happened to evolve to look very similar to dinosaurs. This means there's no evidence for this very dinosaur-shaped creature to have protofeathers, so hey, if you miss scaly dinosaurs, now you have both Postosuchus and Smok wawelski for all your featherless needs.

The second creature here is Terrestrisuchus, which is actually the closest relative to modern crocs that existed in the Triassic, despite its tiny-ness and legginess. This creature is made of leg. It scampered about and ate bugs or anything else it could hunt down, including mammals. I love it, how could you not, look at those LEGS

Meanwhile, in the modern day, I have just finished road-tripping across the country with my mom (who drove THE WHOLE WAY, she is the best and goodest mom) and I'm nearly done getting moved in to my new place. Spoons is very happy so far, and I am very, very tired. I have a huge deadline this Saturday, and I will probably have to push it back and work through the weekend (when I would usually be working on a JSPH.) I do have ideas for JSPH comics, especially after the road trip, so now I just have to find the time to actually do them!

Thank you all for your unending patience in this weird time. I can't wait to get back on the usual schedule, though I'm not quite sure when that'll be! Hopefully in the next few weeks~~

The Ferret

There's an actual extinct creature called Smok Wawelski? That is incredible! Thank you for sharing this, Abby. You just made my day. Bonus points for any other patron who knows the legend without looking it up on Wikipedia.
