When I first saw that scene where he flashes back his failures + music + subtitles, that was it, the waterworks came. Honestly, Jiraiya encountered failures of most men (Rejection, Lost Friendships, Helplessness) but ironically, the child of prophecy was the best accomplishment that he had done and he only realises it at the very end, under his very nose. See with that last sentence, you can only say that from the perspective of a native English speaker. But in actuality, if you're not someone who is Japanese, grew up around that culture, or at least speaks Japanese fluently, you really wouldn't be able to tell if the sub actors are always executing with the "passion and maturity" you claim they are. You just assume so because maybe you just like their voice or their language, and so there's somewhat of a bias. Which I think a lot of times people are afraid to admit. But there are definitely some iconic and majorly respected dub actors in the anime community as well, and for good reason.

Jiraiya's death always gets me because throughout the series we always seen him smiling and laughing. We not once seen him sad or complain. Despite all that in his final moments he saw his life as a worthless story. Breaks my heart every time. Then you start to think about Naruto. He spent soooo much time with Jiraiya. What saddens me the most is the way Jiraiya speaks of himself in his dying moments. You can tell throughout the series that he is someone who is deeply respected by all of the hidden leaf village, his student the 4th Hokage, Tsunade and Naruto, but he still views himself as a failure, a nobody. I had the same reaction as you at the time, it felt like I had lost a friend or a relative. Jiraya and Sarutobi Hokage are characters who represent the village's past and who have this philosophy of "passing the baton to the next generations" which I personally think is very beautiful, this confidence in "tomorrow" for the certainty of having given the best of oneself to forward the future and the people they created or taught. That's why it weighs so much, it's like the past saying goodbye to the present that has yet to meet the future.

It's so easy to be blinded by the negatives, that you barely even see all of the positive things in your life. I think part of why I cried so hard was both because of how betrayed her must have felt in that moment, and confusion like "why yahiko/nagato" not knowing who was dead or who was alive, BUT MOSTLY because of what he meant to Naruto. Jiraiya was Naruto's father figure

In hindsight, it's actually really crazy that Jiraiya was able to win versus 3 of the Paths on his first encounter. He was an insane shinobi I also think it's worth mentioning that Jiraiya died in peace without any regrets which is really beautiful. Not many people in this anime have a death like that. I wish he stayed alive but his death was needed for story development. If anything I'm glad he went out the way he did

I somehow didn't tear up as much as usual at the end (idk why tho', I already got sad when I saw the notification of the episode being uploaded cause I knew what was coming) but when I saw Ron cryin, tears just bursted out. Like, it didn't even feel like a reaction to the episode to me, it just felt like pain in his eyes... and seeing him cope with laughing and actually struggling finding the words, especially with the hand part... idk. I may be interpreting way too much into his reaction but I feel like there's more behind it and even if not, I still felt that very deep inside. Usually I don't even start crying seeing a man being sad, often only women being sad get me crying, but... idk. That one hit hard for some reason. As always great reaction! Until he realized that he actually found the child of prophecy at the very end, was so deep. I have a feeling that the coded message he wrote will be the key to all of pains secrets. Even if it means their blind reaction ends on a cliffhanger, I think that's often preferable to going in with expectations. Of course, I'm clearly in the minority here, so I'll leave it at that. lol

Yea he was my favorite character. I’m just sad that he died with those feelings of regret and failure. Regardless of what you’ve learned and what you will learn about people who influence the story I will always think that jiraya had the most impact because he was there for Naruto and helped him grow to have his values and he just taught him how to act on his ninja way.

Jiraiya had the best jutsu play in my opinion, what a G! I didn't cry either when i first saw him die. I actually stopped watching Naruto because of it, i would feel empty and sorrow. I watched it again and cry like i've never till today, and it was 10 years ago. Naruto is such special journey. This is when the show gets too dark and i love it. It is no goofy ass Naruto things now. Real shit starts here and this is going to be hard. Thanks for the triple episode and the reactions!
