I'm getting a SEWING ROOM! 🧵

Howdy, partners!! Sorry for the gap in posting! I was in Florida with my dear friend Alyson Tabbitha, getting a head start on Maksoween content (we shot THREE looks 🤯). That vlog will be up next week and I can't wait to show you all what we were up to, hehehehehe.

BUUUTTT in the meantime, things are exciting round here as the contractors are working on splitting Nick's office in two, the other half being my new sewing/guest room!!
I am BEYOND estatic to have a dedicated work space to sew and not have to commandeer the living room any more (let's be honest, I still probably will 😬).
I'm so excited to make decorating videos and to organize all of my threads and machinery.

Do you have any ideas for decor or theme? Do you have a sewing room???? I'd love to see photos of yours and how you organize all the miscellaneous stuff that goes along with sewing projects 😅

LOVE YA and thank you for being here, I have so many ideas for Fellowship-exclusive content the next few months 🥰

I'm getting a SEWING ROOM! 🧵

Comments

I've seen very cute ghibli-esqe themed rooms! Big buttons and oversized decor, plus some low care houseplants scattered around!

Alanna

I've been redecorating my craft room. It's hobbitcore/ all my lord of the rings nick nacks on display

Courteney Mazet

Ooh amazing. I'm very lucky to have a studio (not in my house) but I still manage to take over half my house with makes 😅

Fran H (Siigii)

omg I would love to see a video making one of those cat puppets 😻😻😻

Zoe M

Humungaloid table with width and length ( tee hee) for the big patterns. One that can fold up and go smaller if you can

Dani G

I think regardless of theme weather it be the death star or hagrids cottage you need a spinning wheel. So excited to see what theme you pick x

Geneva M

Ohhh.... so much fun! I have just converted our spare bedroom into a craft room/study just for me. It's so very exciting.

Cathy Milner

I used shoes boxes Tupperware in cabinets. Everything is labeled so it is super easy to keep organized and find things but the cabinets are aesthetic to hide the mess. My fabric is in big deep drawers folded in fat rectangles, then vertically in the drawer so you can see every print or color when you open the drawer. I keep colors together so when I need green fabric I go to one drawer and see all green, solid, plaid, floral etc. Hope this helps, so excitited for you!!!!

Melissa Tucci

I moved all my crafting stuff into our conservatory, it's not huge but big enough for storage and a desk :) I also use it as my wfh office

Dana (Fragile Panda)

Hidden storage everywhere but make it whimsical. Whatever you come up though with will be awesome sauce. Just make the setup work for what you're using it for

Dreamingofpemberly

I have a table in my library that I use to cut fabric sometimes, but I would LOVE a room (and a drop-down machine table!). Maybe a mad scientist theme? I'm sure we'll all love whatever whimsy comes from that awesome brain of yours! Love, your (probably) oldest fan.

E. F.

My sewing room doubles as my office, and the house library! So the primary decorative theme is a wall of books.

Catherine Rowley-Williams

NO! NO WAY! Omgosh CONGRATS! This is going to be AWESOME! I have to say, when I first got my art studio I was so excited, and it's got to be something like that!

Heidi/Tracy

Game of Thrones! Because with your "Needle", you gotta stick them with the pointy end ;)!

Frederike Fischer

Emailed!

Mina Murray

The mice from Cinderella as a theme😁

Jenny Rose

Awesome! Have you seen Hazariel Atelier sewing space on YouTube,? She had a lot of fun idea for her sewing room if you want to check out. Also she’s an amazing cosplayer and content creator.

Superprun

congrats! good luck trying to keep part of the room designated as a "guest room" lol - I know I wouldn't be able to

Angela K

Nothing has improved my sewing experience more than making my large, tall workbench. Its on wheels and raises my machine to a standing position. My back no longer hurts, and I never hunch. If needed I can pull up a stool, but I haven't needed to yet!

Hawk Worley

Wizard Study/old library theme? My craft room is cozy-Tudor-castle-attic themed....

TookItHomeTo Jenny

it's not temperature controlled, IIRC

Delphia

I love Hazariel!!

Delphia

PEG BOARDS!! They're so versatile, and make it easy to see what you have available. Storing fabric where you can see it - folded and organized! - helps you see how much of what color and type you have. Of course, you need to do a mural - maybe on the ceiling this time? 🥰

Delphia

I have a sewing/craft room. It's more decorated in a cutesy kawaii style but I added a leaf wall garland and now I'm rethinking decorating it into a cottage core style

Oli Bee

This is so exciting!

Franchesca Baker

Oh! You should check out Hazariel Atelier’s sewing room video! She makes large props and storage containers so her craft room looks like it’s one of the rooms from the Borrowers or the secret world of Arriety and I think you’d have a lot of fun making huge props!!

CrystalKeeper

Second this idea! I have this same setup in my sewing space and it is excellent for cutting fabric, drafting patterns, and then I built storage space underneath each table that will move with it. Great for fabric obsession 😀. I'm taller than the average bear, so having adjustable tabletops is great for back preservation, and I have a rolling stool that I can perch on, lean against when I need a break from standing.

Theo

This is great advice! Be aspirational, but also realistic about what will help you use the space to its fullest.

Kim Wheeler

I have a sewing room, technically it's also my home office, but it's mostly sewing room (and my amazing boss lets me sew during long meetings). It's currently in a state of total chaos as I'm working on 3 projects at once, and at some point in the future I need to rethink how I use the space as some of the original choices I made haven't been too useful. But I still love it, especially the light as it's a garden office, and can look absolutely magical as the sun goes down (don't know if it's ok to share links here? https://www.instagram.com/p/CktIGLDq-NV/)

Kat Mallow

I have part of mine and my spouse's bedroom as my office/sewing space, but also I sometimes commandeer the table in the living area. If we ever move into a space with a third bedroom, our kid has decided that needs to be the reptile room, but it could end up being the reptile/sewing room and I could sew while the gecko watches me.

Anna O.

Ooo how exciting, I bet you can’t wait for them to be finished :) a YouTuber I watch called Bernadette Banner makes historical garments and has made a sewing room and now has a space. Take a look for inspiration as her decor was stunning :)

Katie-Jayne Parker-Jones

I also thought the barn was your creative space. Is not fit for sewing?

Sarah Robinson

I thought the barn was going to be the sewing space. Still exciting and nice of Nick to split his office. Does this mean your office are similar sizes?

alessandra

Ikea makes stand alone wired drawer units. I believe if you line up 6 and 6, back to back, it gives you an 8ft by 4ft table base. My favorite sewing table base because it has drawers all around. They drawers are also the perfect height for those of us 5'6" and up. Has really helped my back. I sew for a living and have used this table for years now!

Chelsea Retalic

I will say the best way to keep you and your current projects in the sewing room and out of the living room is to also have a TV and sound system in your sewing room if you can make them fit, often by having them hung on the wall. This way you can have background music or TV or a film or whatever you want on while working and if you have the space for a the tiniest love seat or comfy chair that maybe also has storage it helps so you’re not always in a hard chair while working for longer hours. But I also agree with many of these other wonderful commenters, storage is the key to a happy work space! Peg boards from IKEA, using as much vertical space as possible and also, hang things around that bring you joy, artwork you make, other make, photos that you have take or ones that inspire. For me even though I want to use and need to use all the storage and furniture in the space, having a real comfortable and inspiring space is so important too! Obviously you are the queen at making things feel more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing to your tastes and you could and can definitely make this a very special space with maybe making it Victorian, or have photos and artwork featuring films, shows, books, video games, trips, inside jokes, etc., can make this space just so thoroughly yours and make you feel so at home. My craft room is a work in progress but having that space and how I feel it is separate from the rest of our house even though it is a bedroom in it makes it feel so great! So special and all my own.

Sarah Kelly

So exciting!! Craft room storage is really my thing - I cannot recommend a folding sewing table enough, both for back pain relief and overall ease of cutting! The ones Joanns sells are perfectly serviceable and if you wait til they go on sale you can get them at a great deal (or, I did see quite a few while scouring facebook marketplace, so secondhand is definitely an option!) The fact that they fold up means they can be put "away" when you need the floor space or just more space in general. My other biggest tip is utilize your vertical storage, especially if your overall square footage is low. Ikea Kallax units save my life because they can be stacked and arranged as needed and the cubbies are honestly so spacious! As an ADHDer I find visible storage is helpful so this plays into that, although you can definitely buy the boxes they're meant to have and label everything if that's more your jam. I also love love the ikea pegboards because they're so customizable, I hang all my scissors and rules and pens/pencils/etc up so I can grab and go quickly without needing to rummage through drawers (visible storage woohoo haha.)

MahouMaddie

Yay! How exciting, on both the Maksoween and new sewing room! I don't have a sewing room, but when I think of decor for a sewing room, I envision a Victorian opulence vibe.

Heather

First thing I got for my craft corner was a label maker, having proper places for everything and a clear label for them makes life so much easier, esp if you're like me, and if it goes in a drawer you forget it exists.

Amy

My office/sewing room/art room/library overflow room is a disaster at all times... but I hope to paint the ceiling soon!

Kat Harness

i have a tiny corner in a house for my own things, so usually i just sew where i can. would be lovely to have a dedicated studio.

Emily Weeks

I sew in my office/guest room. My table is made of two adjustable height sawhorses and a big ol wooden countertop made for an island. When we have guests I just take the tabletop off and lean it all on a wall. Also have a barrister bookcase for all my fabric and baskets full of notions.

Dilly

I currently sew in my dining room. I never eat at my dining room table so that’s what it’s used for mostly hahaha. I’ve always dreamed of a studio though. Definitely get one of those wall hanging peg boards for thread. I would also keep it pretty bright and simple because the nature of the space should be practical and not too chaotic or busy since your projects will be busy and chaotic. The space shouldn’t magnify that.

Elizabeth McDaniel

I have my own sewing room and the most helpful item is my DIY cutting/ patterning table. I found a pocket door at a habitat for humanity and I have it held up, horizontally, with strategically placed storage cube shelving for fabric storage. On top I have cutting mats so that I can use a rotary cutter freely. The dead space underneath is no longer dead because I have a bar cart with notions that rolls out and back in.

Jennifer Kavjian

As a fellow June's Journey player, I suggest a 1920's vibe with the usual objects found within each scene, such as an umbrella, a bell, a scarf, gloves, a hat, some sort of weapon, etc.

NightshadeButterfly

I have had a craft room, which got turned into my hubby's office recently... But I now have a space in the living room! 🥳 I have a big sewing table a la Bernadette! Two IKEA dressers back to back with a butcher block/countertop as the top! It's a wonderful set up because you have the storage and lots of working space!! I have a longer dresser and a shorter one, so there's a gap underneath the counter. I put a bar stool there and it's perfect as a primary working spot 😊 Oh and I have a peg board on the wall to get some of the smaller nicknacks out of the drawers

Lauren Irvine

A Bog Witches enchanted cottage or Howelle’s moving castle.

Samantha Creighton

That's great! I have relatives in Germany, imagine folks are spoiled with legit medieval settings. My grandma was originally Czech, fled to UK as WWII ramped up. We didn't even find her until 1976, living in Nottingham (Selston, IIRC) and fully assimilated. My mail came addressed to "Master Eric Adamson" 🥰 I was chuffed! I've been inactive for a bit, shifting gears here, for lack of Authenticity Police.

Eric Adamson (Michigan)

Hobbit whimsy all the way, but keep it bright, install a corner mirror, lots of drawers for bits and bobs and shelves deep enough and wide enough for storing bolts of fabric flat. Have your ironing board at the same level as your sewing machine space. Get/build a LARGE cutting table.

Tammy Warner

I'm SCA too! (Elizabethan England)

Mina Murray

Thank you! (It's my stage/on-line name). My great-grandmother was Wilhelmina and I went by Mina. Because of a long weird chain of logic, my partner started calling me Murray as a pet name. I put the two of them together and was pleased at the Dracula connection.

Mina Murray

I just gave my sewing and crafting area a makeover. I added pegboard for all my tools and things and I LOVE IT. Plus it was the most affordable part. I used the two ones dressers hack to create a sewing table with storage and laid a few cutting mats over the top for a durable surface. I will hopefully build a frame to put the dresser combo on to bring it up for cutting when standing and so it's mobile. I have a one bedroom apartment so this is in my living room.

Sarah Helgeson

My preffered style would be a mix of french Parisienne Haute couture combined with steampunk. But i would put practicallity over style. But then again, if you are creatieve you can have it all.

Tine

Just occurred to me to state - for them to nest, one had to be less long than the other (one is 72" and the other is 62" I believe) for the smaller one to fit between the legs of the bigger one). Minor inconvenience - you lose the single big rectangle but in my case worth it. As for the magnet idea, I can't remember where I saw it but it was an idea from a post online. They used strong magnetized hooks as their pattern weights (which helps you pick them up while allowing them to be strong enough to work through layers of fabric and the cutting mat). The sheets are I think galvanized steel from the hardware store.

Elizabeth Saltmarsh

I love your name! Is it invariably a contraction of Wilhelmina? Any backstory? (Dracula, Netherlands)

Eric Adamson (Michigan)

oh wow i love all your ideas! i mean the magnet thing?! friggin genius! and never would have thought to get two of the same so they could nest, mind blown.

nicole

Rolling everything! Not sure how useful it would be to you, but, as a quilter, I love my "design wall." Just flannel (could be the back of a tablecloth, you know the ones I mean). I could be tacked to a wall or hung on a simple frame. I just slap up my quilt squares and stand back. It lets me see how the patterns and colors are working. Also great to take b/w photos to assess color values.

Kendra

woooah okay i take my ideas back, THAT is the dream! just a whole vibe, craft nap and bath. A+!

nicole

ooooo so exciting!! when we got our new place i finally had space for a dedicated craft room and its been so awesome, i am so excited for you to get one!! as for tips, echoing what folks are saying about either having adjustable height table or two tables, one high enough for cutting. adjustable is the dream but right now i have one tall and one regular desk, and it used to be two regular height which KILLED my back omg. take care of ya body! rolling would be even more awesome especially in spaces where you might need to move it out of the way. for me it was also important that things me as accessible as possible, or i simply ~forget they exist~ and never use them. likke its gotta be RIGHT THERE for me to grab, even if it looks a little messy. so for me that means function > aesthetic neatly put away stuff, and its going to be a pegboard with a bunch of organizers eventually, but currently is stuff hanging everywhere in a less pretty but still functional way. oh!! and personally i like the division that two desks gets me, like one smaller stationary one for my sewing table to live so i never have to lug it or clear off space, and i can light the area its at really well. and then the larger taller one for everything else, cutting doing nails crafting etc. when i need it for a cutting table, its a good standing height, and when i need to sit i just adjust my chair height so its still good for that.

nicole

Cozy Beatrix Potter vibes sewing room 🥰

kyla watkins

Surely the theme is Whimsy? Very exciting and I'm more than a little jealous 😉 my craft room is the dinning table in the kitchen at the moment but one day I shall have a craft room of my very own 💖

Bizbot

What a nice guy.

Justin Scott

My husband refurbished his moms hoosier cabinet, removing the flour bin. It has a pull out, enameled counter that I use as a cutting table and so much storage. I also hung led work lights over the sewing area. The room is too small for a large cutting table, so I use my kitchen table fully extended. Course it’s all on the same floor (very small house)😃

Tricia

Workspaces tend to be boring by necessity. It's difficult to colour match thread or fabric when the light is not white. That includes vibrant wall colours. If you don't have a free standing mirror, wall mounted or carefully done tiles work well. Lots of light so you can see what you are doing, a strand of USB powered LEDs that stick to the case in the throat of the machine are a great help and cheap. Storage is white IKEA storage boxes with lids, shelving, and a label machine.

Alexander

I'd suggest a forest witch aesthetic! Branches to hang threads off, mushroom needle holders, a little crow friend somewhere!

Emma-Rose Colk

I hope the sewing room includes a cutting table- your poor back is thanking you 😂 So excited to see the final results!

Mary

Oh, and I'm drawing and painting now, so I had my husband help me run a piece of twine between the windows on either side of my cutting table. I use wooden clothes pins to hold pictures I've drawn or painted. It would be great for creating a mood board or to hang up sketches for cosplays or whatever.

Amanda B Cook

We built a new house and moved in in 2019. I made sure to have a dedicated sewing/crafting space upstairs, since the space I used in our old house was the basement gaming table. My favorite thing about the space is the standing desk I bought from IKEA that has a hydraulic system to raise or lower it. It saves my back a ton when I cut fabric or work on patterns. And I lower it when I need to do sitting activities. I even do Zoom meetings from that space. It's really multipurpose. I also have a huge closet that mostly holds my fabric stash but also has lots of other craft items.

Amanda B Cook

Mediaeval alchemist/apothecary workshop-type! Think Gaius's room in Merlin (also a TV recommendation if you've not seen!) xxx

Joäsh Taylor

My sewing room is very cottagecore/fairy core inspired, and I got nearly all my decor from the thrift store ☺️

Sparkle & Feyed

Witch’s cottage!

Lindsay

I used to be able to see all her posts as I followed her, but some time ago something happened that's not letting me see her page. I try to bring up her original Instagram account through her Pinup Companion page, but it doesn't show up for me. I only have one Instagram account, and don't plan on making another. My Instagram name is the same one I'm using for here. I'm not on Facebook either, and don't plan on making an account there.

NightshadeButterfly

My sewing room is also my craft room and home office, so it's very....eclectic! 😅 And green. Not sure you'd like that.

Carly Black

i don’t have a sewing room but i’m reading these comments adoringly 😭 such good vibes

faith 🐝

I have a French modiste inspired sewing room with a big teal glass door hutch for all my fabric. My sewing table is a big wooden table painted with a French love letter in cursive, and my chair depicts a watercolor bird mural from the one and only Anthropologie. Most of my house is historic farmhouse inspired with moody tones, so it was fun to do a bit of a brighter, girlier theme in the sewing room the blended historic and modern pieces.

Devon Walden

I'd like to tag onto Elizabeth Saltmarsh's idea. Take two adjustable height tables (they are not too expensive) and cover the 2 combined tops with that "waxed" fabric that's usually has bright Mexican-ish designs. This will give you a smooth surface, and NO MORE floor cutting!!!

Avon Leekley

I would go super old forest witchy or like super dark victorian. Something with more spooky vibes!

NikyeCute

I’m so jealous! I’ve always wanted a sewing room. The traditional tomato pin cushions inspired me to do an English garden themed room, if I ever have one.

Nurse Millie

Is it only the maksoween posts you can’t view, or can you not see stories or other posts either? It could be possible you’ve accidentally had your account restricted. Perhaps try unfolding and refollowing, or seeing if you’re still able to view posts on a different account?

cerison 🌸

I say go full forest witch for the sewing room theme. Like “weird old witch that lives in a little cabin in the woods and sews cloaks for the local goblins”

cerison 🌸

Theme: Adam Savage’s workshop complete with R2D2

Rhyoxene

That is a fantastic idea! I don't know why I never thought about using those workbenches like that before!

Georganna Bell

NightshadeButterfly

Magnetic cutting table? Genius!

Jo Jo's Got Sewjo

aaaahhhhh.... sewwwiinnnnng rooooooom. *sigh* If you get a cutting table, does that mean the end of the Floor Troll?

Jo Jo's Got Sewjo

I just keep thinking of all the lil mousies and birds sewing for Cinderella in the castle.

Rachel Geist

This is SUCH a good idea! I'm stealing it :D

River

✨️🌿🌸🌿✨️ maybe have it look like Sophie's hat decorating room from Howls Moving Castle?

Rissa Hunt

Best decision I've made in my sewing room was to get two adjustable height tables (mine were Husky workbenches from home Depot) and put them on castors so I can move them around how I need. Sometimes they're one giant table, sometimes two separate ones, and sometimes they nest (because adjustable height) when I need the space. I've got some other fancy add-ons (a roller bar mounted underneath for pattern paper, some flat metal sheets under my cutting mat so I can use magnets as pattern weights, etc) but having movable tables is SO functional.

Elizabeth Saltmarsh

my mom and i are currently remodeling a bedroom into a sewing/guest room too! though we’re also leaving an international trip in a month so we’re using it as a sewing room as well lol

Lupine Wolf

I don’t have a sewing room yet, but I am planning on having a GIANT drafting table so I don’t have to work on my floor either lol! I also love wooden spool racks for thread mounted to the wall. I think having Borrower’s vibe decor would be amazing for a sewing room! 💕

Pixie

That is so exciting to have a new room to design, but even more exciting to create a new craft room - yay! I don't have any inspiration photos, as I don't have enough room for all my craft, but if I did, I think a Coraline inspired sewing room would be fun. Mushkas and buttons mixed in! Look forward to seeing the new room and the videos you create in it!

Kim

Yay! My sewing room is also my autumn retreat so I can forget how hot summer is.

Melissa

So exciting!!!! Maybe you could do a cozy fall theme! That way as your taste and style evolve or you make/find new pieces the theme can stay but the style can be switched up to suit the ✨️whimsy✨️!

Shay Miller

I was like 🤩 so exciting, and then went, wait... Isn't that what the barn is for? 😂

Jenni Banks

Ohhhh - Beware the sewing/Guest Room! What happens with mine is I get all organized, then pull stuff out for a project and get to work (and I am messy - I want all the stuff out where I can find it fast) and THEN - a Guest comes! And I have to stuff everything away fast, and then when Guest leaves, I have to find all the little pieces again! Just a thought -

Tricia Hoffmann

So exciting!! Can't wait to see yours come together. I've had one for a couple of years now and I'm finally getting kallax shelves to organize it better... Can never have too much storage. Especially since I'm dealing with moths in my yarn right now, having things put away properly and easy to clean is a must.

Knitbelove

Just moved to a new home and we finally have a crafting room! So I'm definitely peeping on others ideas too! 😅

Brittany Humphrey

That is so exciting. Since your barn has the Cottage fairytale hobbit vibe going on. You could do a steam punk-esque, what would Evie O'Connell do creative space!?

Leisha Slaughter

Exciting news! I'm also getting a sewing space soon. A whole workshop infact!

Ivy Bombshell

NEW SEWING ROOM, WOOOO!!!! I'm so excited for you! Are you gonna get a cutting table?? I *wish* I had the space for a cutting table, so if you do get one, I will 100% be living vicariously through you. Also, It's SO nice to have a dedicated room for crafts, since it's totally excusable if it's a messy disaster area! "Of *course* it looks like a fabric store exploded in here, it's the CRAFT ROOM!" I have no idea how to put photos here, otherwise I'd upload some and let you see just why I need the 'craft room!' excuse. For organization, I have a lot of boxes and organizers in the closet which has a door that I can shut when a) I want to be tidy and b) to hide the pincushion. Alexander Hamilcat's FAVORITE toy is the pincushion, and her FAVORITE game is to pull the pins out of the cushion with her mouth and drop them on the floor. Which then turns into a game of "where can I safely step?" for me! Hopefully Binx and Frodo don't do YOU dirty like that!

Leigh

Yay designated craft room! Can't wait to see you work some cottagecore magic on it! Since you need to share space with a guest bedroom, I suggest a Murphy bed to have maximum room for crafty funtimes. I have a murphy bed that gets pulled out like an accordion. You can even build a mobile collapsible cutting table workbench that folds up and hangs on the wall, like this one(ish): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyM6NZTRmSk

Britny Norbutus

The biggest recommendation I have that I haven’t seen post yet is a white board or other message board on the door. I write, “no cats!!!” on it when I have something laid out that they will surely play with. You can also keep out loved ones whose holiday presents you are working on, etc.

Katie Behrens

Thanks! My ex had a Bernina machine, but I settled for a Brother. Your machine looks a bit spendier. Sadly, the design files remain fairly proprietary, so going DIY turns into a reverse engineering hack, making that a WIP 😢

Eric Adamson (Michigan)

This is what I have and somehow I still occasionally find myself on the floor…

Katie Behrens

Heehee I just completely reorganize my sewing room (again)very recently, to add in a cutting table with storage and an industrial sewing machine. My rooms theme is kawaii/girly, I guess. I'm not all the way done decorating it yet but there's a few pics on my Tumblr. My room is only 11' x 10', so I had to design and build most of the furniture to fit everything. (Husband helped) So looking forward to what you do with your space! https://www.tumblr.com/strawberrymad/749146930633949184/sewing-room-is-mostly-done-still-want-to-decorate?source=share

StrawberryMad

How do I share photos of my sewing room? I have a studio that used to be our carport. My husband enclosed it for me during the beginning of the pandemic. I love it so much. It’s the stuff of dreams, especially after working out of our tiny bedroom for more than a year. (I have a small alterations business; my background is costumes for performing arts.) I love your videos. You inspire me to romanticize my life!

Katie Behrens

He's the best 🥹❤️

Rachel Maksy

😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️

Rachel Maksy

The dream! 😂❤️

Rachel Maksy

I think I'm definitely gonna get a desk of some sort for my machine! I sorta prefer cutting on the floor tho 😂🙈

Rachel Maksy

Naw I don't think I'll ever change my floor troll ways 😂 I still prefer cutting large cuts of fabric on the floor 🤫😂

Rachel Maksy

daAAANG 😂

Rachel Maksy

YUP I feel that 😂😂😂

Rachel Maksy

💯💯💯😂😂

Rachel Maksy

Yay!!! I didn't realize you couldn't share photos on here OOPS 😂 but you can email it at floortroll@gmail.com if you'd like!!! 🥰

Rachel Maksy

OOO that embroidery sounds really cool tho!! And I get it! Life be crazy sometimes 😂

Rachel Maksy

🥰🥰🥰

Rachel Maksy

Omg that sounds lovely 🥹

Rachel Maksy

Maybe autumn aesthetic sewing room? My house has autumn feeling my kitchen guestroom and bedroom has pumpkins and harvest.

Alisha Lemmer

I am here for all the decorating of the legendary sewing room. Those videos always relax me and I just love them. I'm Team Hobbit theme too!

Maggie M.

That's awesome! Sorry to say that my background is medieval reenactment (SCA.) Alas, 12th century peasant garb isn't terribly complex -- easing sleeves wasn't really even a thing! Consummate geek/dork that I am, at one point, I bought an embroidery machine, in hopes of developing custom designs for sale. But life keeps happening, introducing CNC rigs and countless other geeky distractions from fabric work. Now seeking an entry point. Alas, my penchant for 19th century Gothic designs is likely a bit ambitious, so I'm cooling my jets and regrouping. Sorry for making a short story long, just trying to make myself a known quantity. But... Any excuse to say hi!

Eric Adamson (Michigan)

Huzzah! I have a combination sewing room/office/filming space and I spend most of my time there. It makes me so happy to have a dedicated space, even if it is chaos right now. I did a little reorganization recently, so there are pile and boxes of crap everywhere, but I'd love to show you pictures of some of the good stuff. Is there a way to share pictures on Patreon?

Mina Murray

oooooo! new location to floor troll!

Jenn Anaya

I wish I had a sewing room. I just kind of floor troll in my bedroom and regret it via back pain the next day... or next few days.. lmao. Can't wait to see it finished!

Dottie Elizabeth Vanderbilt

I once cleaned house for a lady with a whole craft/sewing wing XD it had it's own sleeping loft and full bath too. It was very modern though so I'm excited to see what you'll do with yours.

FenMura

One can only dream 😔

Liz Grumbine

No more floor troll??

Heather Kane

So exciting for you!!! It would be cool as a cozy cloudy, rainy vibe. Feel all snuggly while you sew. And yes get a table to save your back some 💕😊

Halley

The one thing I miss from textiles class in school (no fancy school, just normal swedish middle school basic textile skills) is a cutting table. I don't have space for one, but if I did that would be my number one pick.

Annamatopoetry

Congratulations!! I don't have a sewing room, but in my dream room there's a 4x8 foot cutting table at just the right height that I can pin into, room for 2 machines, an ironing board and tons of natural light. I admire your floor troll and was once one myself, but my knees and back can't handle it anymore. I need a real table in my dream sewing room!

Carole Alt

Dang you’re just living my dream over here! So excited for you to have your new space! I think a cozy hobbiton themed room would be a perfect addition to your house!

Margaret Bourlon

woahhh dedicated space!! we're moving up in the world <3 *insert Robots scene were the guy's like "upgrades, people, upgrades..."*

Jasmine C

Please! A table for the machine at proper height. Watching Rachel hunch over the coffee table makes MY back hurt

Krystel Anderson

I’d love to see a LOtR themed sewing room.

Molly Fanton

Oh snap! Congrats on the new room. I don't know much about Nick, but what I have seen in your videos and the way you talk about him, he sounds like a pretty cool dude. I hope it comes out better than you hope.

Kent

I have a sewing room and it makes it so much easier to work on a project. It’s not super aesthetic, but since it’s mine I did paint it a super girly cream and lavender. I found a school table at an auction that I keep my machines on and I made a ironing station that fits on a two-drawer-high-but-extra-long filing cabinet that I store my patterns in. I’ve indeed up with a u-shaped work space that is perfect for me. If I had a bigger room I would have a big cutting table, but the dining room table works well enough.

Reba

Gurl, get yourself a good cutting table! Though you’ll always be the original ‘floor troll,’ that’s got to be hard on the knees!

Roberta Biallas

That’s so exciting! Congratulations! As for a theme idea? Hmm… maybe cottage core with foggy friends? 🤷🏼‍♀️💖

Shayna Adams

Ahhh that is so exciting!!

Katherine

I can’t post any pictures it looks like but I do have my own sewing dungeon! Ok not a dungeon. But it is in the basement and I painted the walls green and it’s pretty big. I used to have it set up for “efficiency” but I had to move some stuff around because I’m taking the leap into YouTube videos (my chitty chitty bang bang costume was my first video) and needing more staging areas, or moving my machines closer to the windows for better lighting. I’m no expert but it’s been fun! Some things I’ve learned. 1) I have a giant work table, 60in by 60 in, and I still lay my fabric on the floor to cut out the pattern. When you make big projects you need room lol. 2) I fold my fabric on heavy 12x12 cardboard which fits perfectly in an ikea kallax unit I already had 3) you will move things around a million times, and put dents in the wall, possibly scratch the floor. You just have to go with it lol. Side note, a giant rug hides warped floor boards 🙈 4)have a LOT of electrical sockets that are strong enough and try to split the room in two circuits so you aren’t constantly flipping the breaker(ask me how I know lol) I can’t wait to see how your room turns out!!

Britta Voight

If I had a sewing room I might go with a regency or Victorian theme. Can’t wait to see what you do!

Summer Pavlosky

I can't wait! I have my own crafting space that I don't know that to do with. I look forward to being inspired by you, Rachel!

Kathryn M. Norwood

I'm glad to hear you're getting a dedicated space for your sewing projects. I learned the importance of dedicated spaces last year when I turned a room in our house into a library. As for theme, I'm not sure if you've seen The Secret World of Arrietty but for some reason that movie is coming to me when I think about themes for your sewing room. Could be fun!

Isabella Ramirez

That’s exciting! I’m currently looking for a mini fridge to put in mine so I can make tea and drinkies. “That’s my sewing room kettle!”

Tiffany Ocampo

Yay! I can't wait to see your sewing room completed!

Carrie Lemieux

I dont have a sewing room. I dont have the space. So i just use my living room lol

Sarah onley

Having your own space with things that make you happy to boost ye ol serotonin is essential!!!!

Mary Ella

I converted my guestroom to a sewing room! An adjustable cutting table will save your back and task lighting is important too 😊 also lots of storage space for fabric and notions so you don’t have to go back and forth from the barn so much. FB marketplace is the place to shop 👍

Linda

Congrats! I do have a sewing room and the best part is that I can just walk away and don't have to clear the dining room table because, and I quote, "We can't eat dinner on top of pins and needles". Husbands and their weird rules. What my sewing room looks like..? A mess! 😆

Sanne

I LOVE having a sewing room! But I don't know how to attach pictutre of mine. It's theme is best described as "A Total Mess of Things I Love."

Marijean Rue

I gotta find some way to combine the two 👀👀👀

Rachel Maksy

I have a sewing/bike storage/litter box room. 😅 It’s pretty small - my desk is actually a behind the sofa table, it’s about 5ft long, 1.5ft wide. I put my ironing board on the other side of it for a little more room and it’s perfect. Just enough room for my sewing machine, tiny desk trash can, and pins, bobbins, etc on one half and my cutting board on the other half. I do have to cut anything bigger than a bra on the floor though. I recently added gamer lights and I love it!!

Tori Rittenger

Here's a post about when I did my sewing room! https://www.instagram.com/p/CJZtSkKDkM8/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link (it's really cluttered now!) I love having a dedicated space that mid-project I can just shut the door and pretend it doesn't exist! I know you'll come up with something awesome for yours!!

Caitlin S.

I have a sewing room but we're currently renovating it so all my sewing stuff is in the dining room! How about a hobbit-hole look for yours or maybe a witchy/celestial vibe? 🙂

Lucy's Vintage Compendium

Ooooo!!! Definitely will have nods to Lord of the rings

Rachel Maksy

🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Rachel Maksy

Hahahaha EVERY room is my sewing room 😂😂😂

Rachel Maksy

YES 👏🏻

Edith

Congrats so, that's amazing! Fully am dreaming of the day I can afford a place with a sewing/Craft room. Maybe something a bit more dark themed, Gothic? Just a different vibe but still beautiful. You could give full swamp witgch goblin core (praise be to the floor troll/goblin!)

Kristen McD

OOO second idea: Howl's room from Howl's Moving Castle 😍

lothlauren

Congrats!! Im excited for all the new content! Crazy to think you didnt have that before! but i feel as creatives we work well with everything everywhere lol

Mia Seelos

Omg this is so exciting! I have a sewing room and I love it! 🥰

Rocio Jimenez

That'd be so cute 😭

Rachel Maksy

Absolutely Rachify it! Lol But that would make the most sense. Maybe a Murphy with an attached closet that you can add shelves/containers to?

Melissa

Ooooo noted!

Rachel Maksy

*Shocked Pikachu Face* clutter on Rachel's channel? Wow! 😂

Juniper Moss

Nice!!!

Rachel Maksy

Omggggg so I’m excited for you! And I’m seconding a Cinderella attic theme!

Edith

Yes! It's so hard to explain but I like to leave my barn for the more crazy messy crafts??? Idk 😂😂

Rachel Maksy

As a sewer/crafter, it's a neverending struggle to separate sewing chaos and craft chaos, so two different spaces makes total sense (and sounds better on your back)!

Shannon Joy

Oh I can do clutter no PROBLEM 😂😂

Rachel Maksy

You could go with a LotR themed room, but not as overt to make it also a nice guest room. Gondor or Rohan influence, maybe?

Lynn Shepard

Awww that's be so lovely 😭

Rachel Maksy

Make is scary?

Rebekah Anderson

Hahahaha you're not wrong 😂😂

Rachel Maksy

Very cool! Well, you inspired me to find an old card catalog and make it my sewing “stuff” holder. !

Kelley Jewell

Cinderella themed. Or a granny look.

Michelle Gentry

😂😂❤️❤️❤️

Rachel Maksy

i'll see the floor in there again one day & be able to sew something 😅

Diana✨

Hopefully 😂😂😂😂

Rachel Maksy

I got a sewing room for the first time this year! My favorite thing in there is the adjustable cutting/drafting table. Put some butcher block on some heavy duty adjustable legs with a hand crank and BAM multipurpose table that really saves my 30+ year old back 😅

Emily Karell-Chu

LOL see it's not our faults!

Rachel Maksy

It's a vibe 😂😂❤️❤️

Rachel Maksy

I was thinking of a desk/Murphy bed combo somehow 🤔🤔🤔 and maybe make it LOOK old at least hahaha

Rachel Maksy

Congratulations! I know that new isn't necessarily best or preferred, but there are really amazing storage options, including retractable tables, if you need to save space that way.

Melissa

Maybe sewing room can be full-on swamp witch? 🧙‍♀️

Babs

Hehehhehe

Rachel Maksy

Hahahaha you gotta do what you gotta do 😂

Rachel Maksy

I feel like a French (read: Parisian) sewing room would be so fun and beautiful!

Morgan Bloom

That’s awesome, Rachel!! Literally laughed out loud about still working in the living room. I have a crafting space, but I always wander over to the couch / living room area to craft. Who doesn’t want to binge watch a show while simultaneously getting craft schnibbles all over the carpet!

Clu Bear

Yay!! Hopefully with a nice big table to save your back from future floor troll-age 😂

Catherine Ford

I feel that!!! We bought ours over 2 years ago and I'm STILL overwhelmed lolol

Rachel Maksy

Exciting times! Can’t wait to see it decorated like a witch’s apothecary!

Hannah Manna P

🥰🥰🥰🥰

Rachel Maksy

That's what I'm really hoping 😂😂😂🤞

Rachel Maksy

Yass beeech! Let’s do a “make it ergonomic” theme 😉

Rebekah Anderson

I feel like it needs to be hobbity, but I might be biased because I think everything should be hobbity in design 😂

lothlauren

This is amazing!! Thank you for sharing. Wow there are so many opportunities to decorate. Something fairytale-esque might be neat…I can’t help but think of the cute sewing scenes in Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. Whatever you choose, I know it will be amazing!

Janna

Literally went "wow!" So exciting. Cannot understand the photo but it sounds fantastic 😅

Babs

Exciting news! My first thought would be some cozy clutter mixture, like a witches house or hobbit hole. The usual vibe 🥰

Juniper Moss

Thats so cool!! Sewing is wayy less stressful that way

Alisa Masijah

🥰🥰🥰

Rachel Maksy

Omg yes lmao

Rachel Maksy

LOL maybe 🤫😏😏

Rachel Maksy

🥰🥰🥰🥰

Rachel Maksy

Oh I'm beyond ready for more home decor content!! 💪💪

Madeleine Gallaher

New sewing room = more sewing projects! Skeeeeeee ✨✨✨✨✨

Milu Chan

The 3 god fairies cabin in sleeping beauty !! Or Jack skellingtons lab

Kate

How exciting! I have a sewing room...also in progress. I bought a house a few months ago and have just been overwhelmed by everything that goes along with that and haven't devoted enough time yet to the sewing/craft room...but soooooooon!

Sara Casey

i'd share a picture of my sewing room/office but it's been hurricaned by working on our nursery on the same floor 🤣

Diana✨

It's going to be beautiful! Make it Hobbit meets Erika from Princess and the Pauper 👀

Laura Chisnall (she, her)

Sew excited for you!

Julie Mendez

Hahaha he is 🥹 that room was a bit too big for his office and had a lot of unused space so it all works out!

Rachel Maksy

That’s so exciting!! It’s a new era!

Cait

Oh my goodness!!! No more messy living room😂

Liz Grumbine

nick really is the GOAT
