Advance Release of the Dave Rubin Episode

We will likely release this tomorrow as we have some minor editing still to do but I thought you guys might appreciate an advance copy and it is basically ready so here you go... Dave Rubin.

The episode I think nobody was looking forward to.

Feedback always welcome!

OK, maybe not a decoding but an interview with somebody going over the role The Rebel has played as a "finishing school" for extreme conservative figures?

Allan Malcolm McPherson

NOooooOOOooo

Christopher Kavanagh

Rubin Limbaugh? Sounds a little like JP Sears. Ezra Levant a real journalist!? A good person!? Hahaha. That lying shit has been practicing "journalism" for many years and he has been sued for libel multiple times. I don't think Greta Thunberg gives two hoots what Rubin, Levant, my right-wing father and brother think of her. The left should not sanctify her either. Sam Harris continues to disappoint me and Bill Maher strikes me as a sad person.

Tim Tripp

Yeah, it is just a generic insult, maybe I was thinking about it too literally. What he said in your clips was so dumb and unoriginal I thought, "this is a stupid person", and he seemed a bit pitiable for his stupidity. I take your points that he may deserve the label.

Daniel

Being lower in intelligence is not something that deserves to be criticized at all. It is most of the time a fairly generic insult and I’m sure that’s how we used it at times on the episode. However, there is something with Rubin that I think makes it fitting. He is someone who preens himself as being insightful, he constantly maligns others as stupid, and he has no depth to him whatsoever. It’s these features and his rank partisanship that I think makes him fair game to criticize. He can set up a show and select guests, he is clearly capable but he is just entirely superficial. He does not grapple with issues, he just absorbs talking points. And it’s this cultured lack of depth and arrogance as well as his willingness to constantly demonize others that make him ‘stupid’.

Timbah.on.Toast did a truly amazing series on Dave Rubin a while back. Gurologists will enjoy it. I'm also relieved we are done with Bill Maher as I've never liked him, but he seems to be more of a guru in the New Athiest sense. In these DTG episodes he's just a pathetic old man smoking pot in his basement, obsessed with how much he hates poop and therefore hates anal sex, and trying to get people to stop talking politics at him.

Rodi

Feel free to call me stupid for posting this, but calling people stupid and unintelligent seems a bit harsh and bigoted to me. It's like calling someone ugly. People can only help how smart they are to an extent. Yeah, Rubin said lots of stupid things and you guys did a great job of dissecting the nature of the stupidity. I enjoyed the episode. I just wonder if the ad hominems are a good thing.

Daniel

You might not be giving Maher enough credit on the gay sex conversation. He probably sensed the contradictions of Rubin being gay and a right-wing pundit, and knew it'd be an uncomfortable topic that'd get interesting responses.

Daniel

Oh man the rebel news ambushing greta clip, this is one of their much less creepy interactions. Keane Bexte literally confronted her in her hotel hallway at night a few years ago. Just slimy gross behavior unbecoming of any one who calls themselves a journalist.

Anonymous ethicist, not a serial killer at all, just asking questions.

Awesome episode! Can't stop laughing and cringing at the same time at the x-rated sex talk lol. Rubin may be legitimately one of the stupidest if not THE stupidest guru you guys have covered on the podcast. Plus, he is as nasty and vindictive as he is stupid. Also makes me smile thinking that somewhere in heaven, Michael Brooks is cackling out loud listening to this episode :) After all, Michael is the first online Rubin decoder!

"The episode I think nobody was looking forward to." - When it comes to Dave Rubin it is a complete indictment of the human race that this guy has a career. If the aliens come and the first thing they hear is Dave Rubin and that he has millions of fans/followers (any more than, say, three is a travesty) then I will completely understand if they exterminate the Earth with extreme prejudice. We will deserve it!

Robert Andrews

"I was surprised by how stupid Dave Rubin is." Somewhere in heaven, Michael Brooks is laughing historically.

Carrie Williamson

Wow. I watched him a couple of times, a long time ago, but lost interest because he just doesn't seem that bright and I'd rather watch a more insightful interviewer. I had no idea he'd gone full loon.

Sue Sutton

Unless someone intentionally released it (I don't know if this is what lab leakers think, I don't follow it that much), I don't think it matters much - maybe someone made a mistake (which always, always happens, eg nuclear accidents, oil spills), or maybe it was natural inter-species transmission. I've long been interested in plagues, the ones that came before there were labs to leak. Someone is always blamed (frequently "the Jews", despite dying as much as everyone else). So what interests me more is what seems to be a need to be able to blame humans. I'm assuming this is because of an unwillingness to accept that some things are simply beyond our control? (I get the same thing in conversations with people who think the human population should just keep expanding, because with advancing technology we can feed everyone (never mind that we don't currently have the will to do that) - so, I ask, what happens if we get another volcano like Toba, or even Krakatoa? Not much response after that. Sometimes sh*t just happens).

Sue Sutton

I think it might be time to do a show on Ezra Levant.

Allan Malcolm McPherson

Young not a requirement but yes. However, we are like a huge tanker… any planned change will take a significant time to observe as we hurtle through our pre existing course.

Christopher Kavanagh

you HAVE to keep that in the final edit, if only so I can imagine other people unexpectedly hearing Matt have to wearily say "too much of the conversation was devoted to the mechanics of anal... uh... sex".

Dael Morris

i'm still laughing. it escalates SO much in such a short clip.

Dael Morris

gentlemen. i was listening to this on the background, and slowly giving up on it just because i didn't find Rubin interesting. but, but, but, BUT.... i have to say that around 01:37:30 you redeemed yourselves. Bill insisting on discussing "taking it in the ass" with Dave was genuinely, unexpectedly hilarious. kudos. (edited the timecode)

Dael Morris

Hmm... didn't you say you wanted a young, female, lefty guru...

Emma

I love you! thanks
