One of the things I love best here is that, just like Deku knows Bakugou, Bakugou also knows Deku. The subtle actions he takes here are incredible, too: instead of blowing up the letter, he rips it to pieces as if rejecting it, this is the first time we also see him wear his uniform /properly/ and basically takes his lessons from Best Jeanist into his personal life as opposed to his hero persona, the shoulder touch against Todoroki to show his support and also to tag himself in as the leader of this operation. The fact that it's also Bakugou that asks him if he can smile at all is so incredible too because it's the one lesson that Bakugou has never needed anyone to teach him while also being something that Deku has /always/ struggled with. Also, the panels that show Bakugou, Iida, and Uraraka in quick succession show that it's his /first/ friends that challenge him and that reach out to him to help. And that's all without speaking about All Might, who in a twisted way gets some comeuppance for the way he acted as the Symbol of Peace but also towards Sir Nighteye after his battle with AFO by having to watch Deku shoulder every burden just like he did in past. And just like Endeavor, All Might only has hindsight to realize that while extremely noble, doing something this big alone is something that only leads to destruction. But unlike him, he can't bring himself to act because he doesn't feel he has the right to interfere with what Deku has chosen. It makes despecting his successors choice a burden of its own, especially when taking the promise he made to his mother that he wouldn't let Deku follow in his blood-stained footsteps. Like yikes.

Can you believe Deku ditching All Might was the end of a chapter?! That was the second time I had to stop reading weekly, Dark Deku gave me major anxiety. I was bravely holding on all throughout the aftermath of the war, but then AfO had to do his thing and get into his head, and I just couldn't watch the downward spiral without some reassurance that he would come out of it fine. I guess in the Anime things never felt that hopeless because of the Op and Ed, and in the end it didn't even take that long, but back then, I couldn't know that. Man, AfO is just so hateable! How dare he twist "It's your turn now"?! Also was the first time I was cheering Bakugou on while he was making fun of Deku/calling him out, All Might wannabe is a top tier insult in this context. I really like how they chose to visually represent Deku's exhaustion, with the blurry visuals, fading in and out of focus, him thinking clearly, but kinda slow, his movements being delayed, same with his reaction time...really nice touch!

That's fair. :) Given Horikoshi's penchant for easter eggs, I pause often now trying to figure out if there's meaning in those random store signs or whatever, haha. Like, the store is called "569." Is that just a lame pun on 7/11, or does it have hidden special meaning? Like.... you can read 5 and 6 as "i + ro" which means "colors" and then 9, as in nine colors, as in the different users of One for All.... and then pretty soon after that I'm the living embodiment of the Always Sunny in Philadelphia conspiracy meme and realize I need to stop.

next episode? what about this episode!

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

Dude next episode is absolutely amazing.

Real

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

Why is this the best show ever made I'm out here crying my eyes out every goddamn episode for a whole fucking season what the fuck

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

I was more referring to subs on the foreground like in the beginning that give time or locations. Not even the sub translates random things like store signs all the time unless it's the focus.

Biostar

I'm happy to provide translations whenever needed, but I think Goodwin cares more about the themes. Like, was it really crucial information at 11:17 that all the onigiri at the looted convenience store were on sale for 100 yen each? Probably not, haha.

Ryan

Yeah think I missed it

Alex G

Crunchyroll’s version does not.

Matthew Richson

It depends on the version I think. But they're not hard coded

Alex G

I was thinking about that line later. It's like... Well yeah so is everyone else still working hard. You can be both

Alex G

11:05 cant tell if he didnt realize who that is lol

_ scüp

Does the dub not translate the japanese on screen or do they only show when subtitles are on?

Biostar

Right, the constant is that a widespread superpower system (Quirks and alchemy) leads to certain levels of arrogance with its users. Some people can see through that and find peace, others cant. Actually I think Edward specifically referred to that thinking as pure arrogance

Deiondre0

Goodwin just gets MHA and I love it lol

CEEmma

Similar in spirit, but for Death Arms, that was his way of giving up on his goals. For Ed, his realization was that his connections with everyone already made him everything he needed to achieve them.

Ryan

Something Death Arms said has a nice parallel with Edward's final conversation with Truth in FMAB. Death Arms: Turns out I'm not a hero, Im just human. Truth: You wish to give up alchemy and lower yourself to a mere human? Ed: What do you mean lower yourself? That's all Ive ever been. Similar mindsets, but different perspectives and circumstances

Deiondre0

you're definitely gonna love the next episode

AryTheDog

Cool reference -- 7:03 is directly taken from the manga, but that scene in turn is very directly taken from Amazing Spider-Man #51, "Spiderman No More," where Peter Parker abandons his role as a hero.

Welcome back

bl0odm1st

All for One’s plan was to basically do what Bane did to Batman. Tire him out with nonstop fighting, then when too worn out to fight back, move in and snatch his prize. Every week, the dub actors surprise me yet again with their ability to keep up to their Japanese counterparts. When this happened in the manga, some people were critical of how quickly Deku being on his own went by. The story doesn’t portray it the best, but Deku was on his own for at least several days. Granted anime only’s seem to be a lot more accepting.
