i've been waiting for years for huge green laser diodes arrays to become available, and I finally got one in the middle of my move to my new lab. I ended up using it to build a giant version of the classic cheap green laser pointer. Output power is nearly 30W which makes it 6000 times more powerful than a 5mW laser pointer. The circuit driving it is the most cursed thing I've ever made, but at least it works.
Unfortunately these green laser diodes are not very efficient, and in fact this thing uses roughly the same input power as my 100W blue handheld laser to make less than half of the total output power of light. This issue applies to all direct green LEDs and laser diodes and is actually an unsolved in engineering. That being said, the luminous efficacy of green light (aka how sensitive our eyes are to green) is so much higher than blue that this build ends up being my brightest portable laser build yet. Pretty cool right? :D
