lab updates

for most of the past couple weeks i've been stuck working in the house doing even more cleaning and tear out since I wanted to get as much stuff thrown out as a I could before my dumpster rental was up. I did find a few more treasures along with the trash, and I have been able to do a little foraging out in the woods here too.

the lights in the lab are finished now, using over 2kW of LEDs for maximum brightness. this week I begin the framing, then after that comes the insulation and then drywall. i've also finally started working on the chemical formulary 3 vid again, and will continue to work on that during down times over the coming weeks

Thanks for the insight! I guess the thing with the flags might be a bit more sensitive here (or the culture more uptight(?)). In general Finns tend stick to the rules a bit more than I'd prefer...

Hi! The United States has a myth that flags must be burnt that touch the ground, but it's not true - It's just a matter of respect. However a flag this is not "fit" is not to be hoisted or displayed, according to our Veteran Affairs. This is where personal interpretation comes in. A lot of flags in Alaska or on shipping vessels get tattered quickly, but the actual point in which the tears become disrespectful is very personal. Hey I love Finland myself, good to meet you!

I agree the raggedness kind of fits with the US flag. It definitely looks like our cottage pennant that I accidentally left there for winter as well, flapping in the breeze agaist some tree branches. Here (Finland), I believe it'd be frown upon. We even have a rule (not sure if it's a law) to burn the flag if it touches the ground while you're lifting it up/down. 😁 I wonder if this is a thing elsewhere? I would assume we've got the idea from some other country.

yeah i'd say so. this flag was from the previous owner, and the flag on the pole outside is quite beat up as well!

I do need a lot of ceiling clearance for the arcs from the tesla coils :D plus I need a lot of space for the various flavors of science i like to do. eventually i'll put in a big faraday cage, a chem lab with fume hood, and an optics table.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Now excuse me while I boil this Amanita muscaria and isolate some compounds. :)

Sean Daggett

You can tell it's seen some wind since the white stripe material is tattering. When a flag has wind wear it's only got more character!

Sean Daggett

Is it a common thing there to have a beaten up US flag hanging from the ceiling? :D

Ristomatti Airo

Especially after consuming the right kind of mushrooms.

Wow! I had no idea the new space was that large!?! You going to be accelerating particles or detecting gravity waves? Wandering in the woods is highly suggested to keep balanced. ;)
