Turkey Thursday - January 21 '21: CLOVERFIELD (Prime Video)

UPDATE 2: We're live right now in The Traxian Room (code: MONSTERS) with Godmonster of Indian Flats! As Traxians I'm thrilled as always to offer this free watch party for you all (through Vimeo, no subscription required!). Join us. won't you?

Now it's time to mine that sweet banjo dust.

UPDATE: We have a winner, Cloverfield! Now there's another movie I'm pretty sure no one has watched in a while.

And of course, for you Traxians, please join me at 3:30pm PT before the main event for a Traxian-only pre-show. It will either be Godmonster of Indian Flats or The Crater Lake Monster, in keeping with the night's "monster movie" theme. That pre-show will happen in The Traxian Room. Enter the code MONSTERS to join once we've gone live at 3:30 pm Pacific / 6:30pm Eastern.

Then at 5:30pm PT / 8:30pm PT, we'll host a watch party of Cloverfield, as riffed by Mike, Kevin and Bill. I've also gotten a new system setup for making the sync for these even better that I'll be testing. Here's a link to that event.

See you there!

Erik

Original post below:

Hi Traxians! Erik here.

If I hadn't already told you: welcome to 2021! We made it! (So far.)

Thanks to everyone who showed up last night for my Turkey Thursday presentation of Ready Player One. I had a lot of fun watching Julie and Jack beforehand with a bunch of our patrons, and comparing both movies' uses of virtual reality. Of course, nothing beats Gunting, but Julie and Jack has that special James Nguyen "magic."

Anyhoo, it's a new month, which means a new poll! I'd love your help choosing what to watch next Thursday on Scener. It doesn't look like much has changed regarding what's currently available, thankfully, although Amazon has removed every Twilight movie from Free with Prime. The nerve!

Please let me know what you'd like to get Sceners to watch next week (January 21st) using the handy poll below! Multiple choices are allowed.

Since last night's show was through HBO Max, we'll prefer the other services for now. Please note: there are a few titles which are repeated due to streaming service overlap (mainly Marvel films), so if there is a service you'd rather go with, please select that one. I recommend Disney+ in most cases - mainly because it's available globally, so more people can join the Watch Party.

We'll have another Traxian pre-show as well, and the subject (either a short or feature) will be one that I think is somehow relevant to the winning Turkey. Feel free to leave a comment with any suggestions, too.

Thanks, and have a great weekend!

Erik

Godmonster won out, but let's do Crater Lake Monster next time!

RiffTrax

I hope the movie will be "The Crater Lake Monster." "Godmonster of Indian Flats"? I still can't figure out what the Sam Hill is going on.

Justin Wingate

You won't need the commentary track; they'll be playing it (and the movie) through Scener.

Clifford Tunnell

Help an old guy out (my first time on Scener) I have Amazon prime for Cloverfield, so is the live riffing run the same was as a "Just the Jokes"? Also is there a place I go to pay for the riff or is it free 'cause I'm a Traxian?

Dan Miller

You're not wrong! It's a solid flick, though the monster's route through the city does seem a little on the nonsensical side.

Matt Nelson

Man, did Cloverfield have some sort of massive backlash in recent years, or am I just remembering it through rose colored glasses, because I remember it as pretty good.

Clifford Tunnell

A bunch of people, it looks like! Time to dust that one off... it's from 2008!

RiffTrax

Hey Justin, which riff are you referring to?

RiffTrax

Well, the poll is over and Cloverfield won. I got Amazon prime so I will be ready come Thursday.

Justin Wingate

People are searching for an egg in Ready Player One, which they call egg hunting - "gunting" for short. (Yes, it really is that lame. But in the new book they're looking for shards, a process called "sharding" - I shard you not!)

RiffTrax

Regarding the pre-show Traxian film, it doesn't really connect to any of the films on your list, but it's one from your site (so no subscription worries) and only runs 90 minutes. Also, it has an inexplicably low rating of 8.7, but I think it's more worthy of a score of 9.7 or above. This will help show patreon supporters that even though a film might have a low rating, there are plenty out there that deserve a look.

Justin Allen

I missed the beginning of last Turkey Thursday stream. What's Gunting?

Techy

Clearly you mean Casino Royal (1967) . ;-)

E. P. Haury

Well, I got all the services so I voted for them all (putting the movies on my Watchlist as well). That way, no matter what, my choices wins. :)

Justin Wingate

Cloverfield? Who wants to watch that? Even with the riffs!

Dale Jensen

I really really want a Marvel title to win, but it appears I'm in a very small club :-/
