I could totally see that being the case with Marina’s mother taking medication for something of that nature, so that’s really good to point out. And yeah, I feel the audience understands how dour the circumstances are without it having to be over the top, but that’s a stylistic choice and I can see how some would enjoy it! Not that in anyway excuses anything. I think it might hint at her being bipolar. Some of the ways she acts reminds me of it. Also, I agree some scenes did not have to be so dark to make the point.
