Kaiju Heart Ch 23: The Opening Wound, A Battles End!

I couldn't take my eyes off the screen, even as the cockpit around me sparked and groaned under the strain. The Eclipse Saber... I'd read about it in the manuals, trained for it in simulations, but I never thought I'd see it activated in a real battle. Plasma, pure plasma, compressed and stabilized into a blade that burned hotter than the surface of the sun. It was beautiful, terrifying, and utterly unstable.

This wasn't how I imagined my first encounter with a Kaiju. Hell, like most people, I didn't think I'd ever see one. After the Cataclysm, they were supposed to be gone. Dead or in hibernation. The world had moved on. But now, here we were, fighting for our lives against the Empress of Blue Flame herself. Four Kaiju in one day. Four monsters that ripped apart everything we thought we knew.

The whole machine shuddered beneath me as the Saber's energy levels spiked, and I clutched the controls, my hands shaking. My screen showed her—a living nightmare. Black scales that shimmered like obsidian, massive claws that could tear through steel like paper, and those glowing blue eyes filled with rage. She took up the entire viewport. I wasn't sure we could stop her.

"How's the power holding, Rivera?" Captain Marcus Hawthorne's voice cut through the chaos, sharp and commanding.

I checked the readings. My heart sank. "Rapidly draining, sir. At this rate, we've only got one shot."

Marcus didn't hesitate. "Then let's make it count."

One shot. The weight of those words pressed on me like a mountain. I swallowed hard and focused. If this failed... no, I couldn't think like that. We had to stop her. We had to.

Flariona crouched low, her monstrous form radiating heat waves that distorted the air around her. Her glowing blue eyes locked on the machine before her, her rage simmering like a volcano about to erupt. The arrogance of these little creatures... their tiny machines, their pathetic attempts to fight her. And yet, they had forced her into this.

The sword they wielded glowed with a heat that rivaled her own flames. Almost. But it wasn't enough. It couldn't be enough. Her claws twitched, flames licking between her fingers as she concentrated her power. These insects dared to challenge her while she had far more important matters to attend to—the little woman who had taken everything from her and the insolent man who continued to defy her.

"Enough of this," she growled, her voice rumbling through the ruins like an earthquake.

Flames erupted from her maw as she surged forward, her right hand transforming into a fiery blade, blue fire coursing through her claws and extending into a deadly, searing weapon. She aimed to end this quickly, tearing through the ground as her massive body raced toward the Titan Buster.

The Titan Buster raised the Eclipse Saber, its brilliance illuminating the smoke-filled sky. The two giants collided, the force of their battle leveling what little remained of the city. Flariona's flaming blade clashed against the plasma sword, sending shockwaves rippling outward. Buildings crumbled, the ground split, and ash rained down like snow.

Flariona's flames roared, consuming everything in their path, but the Eclipse Saber held firm. Its light intensified, pushing back her inferno until, with a deafening roar, the plasma blade pierced through the flames and struck true.

Flariona howled in pain, her body arching as the blade sliced through her, leaving a massive, glowing wound that bisected her torso. She tumbled backward, crashing into the city with earth-shattering force. Dust clouds erupted into the air, and the ground quaked violently as her colossal body hit the ground, flattening buildings beneath her.

Inside the Titan Buster, sparks flew as the systems overloaded. The Eclipse Saber flickered and disappeared, leaving the mech standing motionless, its power reserves completely drained.

I clawed my way up, my hands burning against the black scales that surrounded me. Each step felt like torture. The heat from her body was unbearable, even through my shoes. My lungs felt like they were about to collapse, the air thick with smoke and ash.

"Kaguya..." I muttered, looking ahead. I needed to find her. I needed to make sure she was safe. My eyes caught sight of the massive wound running down Flariona's body, the edges steaming and glowing with molten blood. I didn't dare get too close—it looked hot enough to melt flesh.

The ground beneath me shifted suddenly, and I lost my footing. "No, no, no!" I screamed as I fell, my body slamming against the scales. Each impact left me bruised and battered until I finally hit the ground with a sickening thud.

Everything was spinning. My head throbbed as I struggled to open my eyes. The ground beneath me rumbled like a living thing, and through the haze, I saw her.

Flariona.

Her form had shifted again, becoming more humanoid. Her blue eyes glowed like burning coals as her massive head loomed over me, casting me in shadow. She looked down at me with something between anger and exhaustion, her voice booming in my ears.

"I have no choice," she said, her tone low and resolute.

I couldn't move. I couldn't speak. I just stared up at her, fear and desperation gripping me as the world seemed to crumble around us.
