Once used your level of understanding and all around awareness of cursed energy increases tremendously, as Nanami says during the fight with Hanami the difference between sorcerers who have awakened black flash and those who haven't is like night and day. 2 the money gojo paid mei mei was for her help in finding the traitor amongst the sorcerers. He first mentions this to Urahemi during the school competition and asks her to look into it. The phone call was a check up. He then proceeded to ask mei mei for help by paying her.
