This would be like Charlie X, Kirk bonds with the kid..Kirk also got stabbed in Journey to Babel.

2024-09-04 14:30:11 +0000 UTCThis episode definitely fits within the family theme of season 4, definitely the weakest of the bunch, but it is a theme with Picard that we will see again and again.

2024-09-03 17:45:10 +0000 UTCThe reason TNG excels is because TOS is too much of a wanna-be soap opera in space. Oversell of drama, oversell of emotional turmoil/conflict/righteousness. There are reasons why Kirk is usually parodied in an over-acting manner.

2024-09-03 14:14:30 +0000 UTCS4 is the start of throwing plots at Picard instead of other more suited characters for no reason other than to get more screen time with Patrick Stewart -- which is not only understandable, but something we're all in a way thankful for. But this certainly would have made more sense with a Kirk (Charlie) or with Wesley, or Beverley, or how about the ensemble cast all having a moment to play off the kid? The reasons to do this primarily with Picard would be to develop his 'bad with kids' angle, but that wasn't really a focus and Picard actually comes off as competent and comfortable in his role. Wasted opportunity imo. There aren't that many ideas that work just as well with the secondary characters and they burned this one on Picard.

2024-09-03 00:59:26 +0000 UTCI could very much see this as one of those TOS episodes that drags on and on. I think Kirk would have had an easier relationship with Jono and he would have also been quicker to escalate to a battle. I think it would have been a completely different episode in that case. It definitely works better with Picard.

2024-09-02 17:04:35 +0000 UTCThat is so interesting because I thought I was the only one that did this. There is an upcoming episode this season that I always pictured in my head, as the perfect TOS episode. I can visualize the entire episode as a TOS. I'll let you know when we get there in a bit to see if you agree. I am afraid if they did THIS episode in TOS it would be that same annoying red haired kid from "And the Children Shall Lead". Pounding his fist on the table: "Hail, hail, fire and snow. Call the Klingon we will go. Far away, for to see. Friendly Klingon come to me.
