Okay, so this is it for me. The end of the line. This is something I've hoped for, for so long. The wedding of Xander and Anya. If they could make it, and get married, and be happy... it felt to me like EVERYTHING would be okay. And not even THIS could go right. It has truly left me with a feeling of sadness and I'm deflated. I speak about this much more in the outro, of course, but man.... I'm just so disappointed. Sigh! Well, once more into the breach. Buckle up, I think it's going to be a bumpy ride.

yeah this episode is heartbreaking. anyas vows are so sweet and heartwarming. xanders family is so awful. i get why he's afraid. but i do wish he hadn't done this. i think they could have been happy. but no one in this show gets to be happy.

I get the theme of season 6 is all our characters are struggling, and that it’s all about pain and misery. But to take away the one bright spot of Xander and Anya always felt like a cop out by the writers to me. They could still have written for them as a couple to have the challenges and struggle within the marriage. No relationship is easy and it would be interesting to see how they met those challenges within marriage. I have other thoughts about how this relationship as well as others are handled throughout the remainder of Buffy’s run. But there be spoilers down that road. So I’ll keep my thoughts for later.

2024-11-09 21:50:42 +0000 UTCSeason 6 should really come with a giant sign that reads 'Abandon all hope, ye who enter here'. This is the season of pain and misery, lots and lots of misery. I don't think season 6 understands the meaning of the words 'happy endings', but the last 3 episodes I think are some of the best in the Buffyverse. And yeah this episode isn't a favourite either.

I sometimes even skip it on rewatches. I know there were signs leading up to this with Xander's doubts and all, but I still absolutely hate that he did this.
