Doctor Who 5x4 The Time of Angels - Early Access CLEAN

Guess who's back... back again! Well, a couple of things are. One I'm glad to see and one I'm not. Which one is which, can you tell ๐Ÿ˜…

REALLY good episode, though I do find it hard to sort of not compare to the previous episode that featured these things. I try really hard not to compare as both episodes are quite different, but are equally enjoyable in their own right.

I hope you enjoy and thank you for watching and being here ๐Ÿ’œ

RIGHT! Okay, so she's not dead. Sort of. Because it was the wrong order. PHEW! I just accept everything and go with the flow otherwise it hurts my head ๐Ÿ˜…

As the Doctor said, "They keep meeting in the wrong order." The events of Silence in the Library haven't happened for her yet, hence she was surprised that she would be a Professor one day. "Spoilers!"

See, now I've been thinking more about this since I read your comment ๐Ÿคฃ I assumed it was due to time travel that River was back. Like, she travelled to the Doctor in this episode from the future..... But the last time we saw her, she did indeed die. But she can still travel from the future, right?! I'm so confused ๐Ÿ˜…

Juliette Gaming

Thank you, Lee ๐Ÿ’œ

Juliette Gaming

OMG!

Juliette Gaming

See, I can't quite figure out where River came from, but all I can think is that she's HERE because her timeline is out of whack or something. I don't get it, but hopefully it will get revealed at some stage ๐Ÿ˜‚

"She looks different than the last time we saw her" ...you mean not dead? Great reaction as always Jules and you're right, it is good to see River again. Can't wait to see your reaction to part two.

The Rising Ape

When Alex Kingston (River) fell through the door of the TARDIS and landed on Matt Smith (Doctor,) she accidentally kneed him in the groin.

A note about Time Travel in DW: historically, TT has been used to get the Doctor and his companions to the scene of the adventure, stuff happens, and then everyone buggers off to their own corner. Steve Moffat, however, leaned heavily into the consequences, both good and ill, of TT. Hell, BLINK was all about TT paradoxes. Creating such paradoxes results in incredibly complex plot diagrams, and resolving the threads of DW lore is the ultimate Three-Body Problem of science fiction. That's why, for the most part, the best advice is to relax and have a jelly baby. Because (minor spoiler) it's going to get a WHOLE lot worse.

Back in the library river did say docter allways comes when she calls now we see how she calls him

A few fun facts here, this is actually the first episode filmed for series 5, so Karen and Matt's first scenes's together. Amy's stone hand is a little throwback to Karen's small (but unrelated) role in the fires of Pompeii where the soothsayers were slowly being turned to stone. In the scene where the Doctor bit Amy's hand, well Matt Smith did actually bite Karen by accident and they kept her real reaction in for the shot! The gravity globe (the floating orb of light that the Doctor shoots at the end) was first introduced in the Impossible Planet/Satan Pit two-parter (when the Doctor and Ida reach the pit, Ida kicks the gravity globe up into the air to give them light). Great reaction. Your reaction made me think of the phrase; win some (River) lose some (Angels) lol.

Love the scene with Amy and the Angel slowly making its way out of the tv screen. (If, in fact, an image of an Angel could itself become an Angel, we'd all be in very big trouble right about now!) Thanks for another excellent rection Juliette ๐Ÿ’œ Hope you're having a great week.

Neil Hanson

True, it really is. I just preferred the original dread of the silent and seemingly unmoving "statues" who feed on lifetimes.

Oliver

Nothing much to add here, just been so fun to watch these weekly again alongside your reactions

Lee Dawson

The fact that this episode is the first episode Matt Smith filmed as the 11th Doctor is honestly remarkable. That speech at the end makes him, and solidifies him as The Doctor for sure

George

Don't forget the fact she died

OverWims

@The Dog Whisperer He doesn't need to know her identity to recognise that she will be the "professor river song" he saw die in the library. Same woman, same name, same diary. He even refers to her as professor as he knows that's what she introduced herself to him as in the library. He will always know when she will die as he's already seen it happen. You're basically saying if you saw someone ranover on the street but didn't know their name, then you didn't see them get ranover. That's the exact same logic you just made. The whole point of this show and this storyline is time travel can get messy and things can happen out of order. Cause doesn't have to lead to effect.

OverWims

"Your eyes. You're younger than I've ever seen you." "Funny thing is, this means you've always known how I was going to die. All the time we've been together, you knew I was coming here. " He recognizes her as the woman that died in the library. I don't know why you think he doesn't know who she is.

Nebraska

He doesn't even know who she is for some time.

The Dog Walker

The way Angel Bob taunts the doctor is really good horror.

Jack Mingle

Yeah...for the reason I just said

OverWims

Are you sure about that?

The Dog Walker

I'm not sure if you noticed by Rivers diary looks like a Tardis. One of the reasons you may feel off about this episode, besides the obvious, is that River sails into any room and sucks the oxygen right out of it! She kinda took the spotlight off Amy and the Doctor. Also, the actor who plays the lead soldier is Iain Glen who plays Sir Jorah Mormont in GOT.

The Dog Walker

One thing that I always find sad about when the Doctor sees River is the fact that he will always know when/how she dies. He saw her die in the library the first time he met her. He will always know exactly how she died.

OverWims

I find that, unless you are someone who has watched rivers plot line multiple times, it can be a little tricky to keep track of, so I highly recommend reminding yourself of all the information you know / learn about her as we follow her plot (Eg. The first time we saw her she had a screwdriver, knew the doctors name and whispered it in his ear etc.).

Geo

The Weeping Angels are absolute fantastic and scary monsters. And in 'Blink' they were perfectly introduced. Every story after 'Blink' using the Angels has to fall short a little bit compared to that episode. But they are still a powerful enemy and it is no wonder that Steven Moffat revisited them (he wrote Blink, so he invented them and he also wrote Silence in the Library, so he also introduced River Song).

Oliver

Ah, the return of River Song! You WILL learn more about her, but it's going to be a drip feed for a very long time.

Kthulhu

I've always like this episode, when it first aired I also compared it to "Blink" and because I did that I didn't really appreciate this episode/story for what it is (I was 8 at the time though so that's my excuse)
