It makes it hard to talk about these episodes here in the blurb due to spoilers, but I do enough waffling at the end that it's all there, really π
I hope you all have a lovely weekend! I need to do some minor fence repair, find somewhere for dinner on Saturday and try to fit relaxing in there somewhere! This week I've tried to stop working at a reasonable time so I can catch up on housework. I've just been working too much that things are slipping away from me (housework, physical and mental health) so I'm trying to do better in that area. It's HARD to do everything we want to do in life, isn't it?! I need that winning lotto ticket!

Yeah there's a lot of stuff Willow shouldn't have done, and I think it's an issue that her friends either ignore or let a lot of 'things Willow shouldn't have done' slide. Willow shouldn't have been sneaking the magic books Giles tried to hide from her when she wasn't ready for them, Willow shouldn't have tried to use a spell on Xander, without his consent, to deal with their feelings for one another, Willow shouldn't have immediately jumped to seriously hexing Veruca and Oz (even if she didn't go through with it), Willow shouldn't have tried to use magic to make her grief over Oz leaving just disappear, Are we noticing a pattern here? ;D

2024-07-08 00:57:59 +0000 UTCSorry for the late comment, I've just managed to get Disney plus and figure out how to sync things up (I am still having minor issues, stupid Australian internet with the slightest glitch or buffering and things get out of whack, not your fault though). The demon guy 'Doc', that Dawn and Spike visit is played by legendary Oscar and Tony award winning actor, Joel Grey. He was one of the original stars of Cabaret on both stage and screen, and he won the Academy award for Best Supporting actor for his role as the emcee in Cabaret back in 1973. He's also one of the few genuine triple threat stars still living today (triple threat meaning someone who can sing, dance and act). I remember coming across an interview with one of Buffy's production team several years ago (which sadly I can no longer find) where they talked about how they had wanted to cast Joel Grey in the role of the demon 'Doc' quite early on, but they weren't sure if they could actually ask an Oscar winning actor to appear on a TV show like Buffy, like it would be an insult to someone of that status. Apparently it turned out Joel Grey was a fan of the show, and was absolutely thrilled to be asked to appear as a guest role. :D

I get that she wanted to help Dawn, but that spell definitely was more on the very dark side of magic. When we first met Tara, it felt that she was the more powerful witch and now I feel that Willow has surpassed her. I don't know how something like that happens. It might be due to her practicing magic more than Tara so she gets better and stronger? Or maybe a witch's power is determined from birth and she was naturally going to evolve and be more powerful.

Feels just a little more like the unsure and insecure Willow we knew back in season 1/2.

2024-06-16 18:44:36 +0000 UTCAngel showing up for Buffy just after experiencing his own arc of despair is so heartwarming and selfless, it just emphasizes why I love them so much. It's a case of doing what's best for her, always. Even breaking up in the first place was done in her best interest. People like to dismiss Angel's actions because he was cursed, but none of his good acts were part of the curse. This is him making an effort, despite the despair. And then Willow and Spike "helping" Dawn.... ooph. It makes sense why Spike does it, but Willow going against Tara's wishes and pointing Dawn towards resurrection spells... It's frustrating that she didn't realize what a terrible idea it was!

2024-06-15 16:07:45 +0000 UTCThe one thing from this episode is Spike wanting to leave flowers for Joyce. No soul Spike, not for Buffy, but for Joyce. Anytime they had a scene together it was gold. I wish there could have been more. "I liked the lady." He really did.

Seeing Angel back here with Buffy and honestly, all thoughts of Riley and interest in Spike has very quickly slipped away π They might be the "classic" pairing, but I adore them together. I've found a place for dinner that I haven't been to for years, so I've got that to look forward to tonight! Enjoy your weekend as well, Neil. Thank you for everything π

But there's no formula for how to get up the next morning and have breakfast once they're gone. So many things that you expect to know how to do because you did them before, when that person was still alive... I hope that makes sense.

2024-06-15 00:01:18 +0000 UTCThis was a tough one but beautifully done. One of my favorite callbacks is Giles listening to Tales of Brave Ulysses again while he remembered Joyce. This episode also highlights why I ship Buffy and Angel. He really should be her endgame if only they could deal with the curse. Willow and Spike were both so wrong in trying to help Dawn and I'm really not happy with either of them.

It certainly looked like the spell hadn't brought back the Joyce we knew so I'm glad that Dawn destroyed the photo before they saw her. That would have made things so much worse. Speaking of worse, Ben slipping up and revealing the key is now human has surely made things worse for the gang! Thanks for another great reaction Juliette. Enjoy the weekend, relax, unwind, treat yourself to something nice, and make sure to not overwork yourself. That's an order!
