Dr Who 4x10 Midnight (FULL)

And the full reaction!

Dr Who 4x10 Midnight (FULL)

Comments

This episode is by far one of my top favourite ones! The way David Tennant acted in this was phenomenal! His eyes like you said, the way he was so scared without anyone to help him. So so well done! And the whole scariness of it. We find the doctor alone in this one. No companion to help him just him. I really love this one! Also to see Colin Morgan (Merin in BBC Merlin) in this is a major bonus. I loved the show Merlin alot so seeing him in Doctor Who I was overjoyed the first time I saw this one.

Larissa Reimer

That's fair. I'm not one to give spoilers, I just didn't realise that what I put could actually be one. All good now though, for both of us :D

The Rising Ape

Thank you. I edited my own comment now in case she hasn't seen these since my own reply had a spoiler so you understood my concern. I understand how easy it is to get carried away and talk about what's coming up, but it's our responsibility to do our best to filter what we can share without giving anything away 😊

Melanie

Edited... okay now?

The Rising Ape

Please edit out the second paragraph because she doesn't want any spoilers.

Melanie

It's no wonder Doctor Who has been called the "scariest show on television" and coined the "hiding behind the sofa" trope. A phenomenal episode that shows just how good the writing and acting are in this season. What's coming is going to blow you away and I'm really looking forward to seeing the reactions. Donna's turn to shine next.

The Rising Ape

Good point and done.

Leenis

That's a great idea! Let's suggest this. But as an aside I think you should edit out the entire "First time" sentence in your comment above just to keep it totally unspoiled.

Paul Hess

Right? [Edited out per recommendation]. I think we should start a petition to get Juliette to react to both videos before she starts 5 x 1. FYI, Hillywood (the two sister cos players who made this channel) have one for Sherlock and for Stranger Things, which are just as good.

Leenis

Holy smokes I can’t believe that’s amateur!

Paul Hess

Been so long since I've seen this. Love it.

Jerry Setty (SpTigerJD1)

Great reaction. I think you'll enjoy the next episode.

This link also has potential spoilers, so not for Juliette. I can't believe I have never seen this till tonight. It is too good, but should also be viewed before 5 x 1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WBqHdI5Bdw

Leenis

2:36 could be a spoiler because that actor is so well known, and conclusions could be drawn. Even more than that, why would you inflict such and effective ear worm on anyone?! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=738OEa5NZ9A But seriously, that is a lovely video, and a perfect send off right before 5x 1.

Leenis

Head to the constellation of Cancer at .01 light speed for about 4000 years, then hang a left.

Martin Holt

Haha awesome! And wait... this episode was out 16 years ago? My goodness. I don't really look at the release dates but I'm so impressed that all of these episodes still hold up so well to this day!

Juliette Gaming

How do we get there 🀣

Juliette Gaming

This has to be one of my favourite little episodes so far. I do love the Doctor when he's with his companion (DONNA!) but having him by himself is a treat as well, when it's this good πŸ’œ

Juliette Gaming

Juliette please don't click this link. Anyone else, can you help figure out whether this would be safe to share yet, or if it needs to wait until later? It's all pretty innocuous but there are images of things that might or might not have been seen yet? I'm thinking then end of season 4 might be a safe time? When you answer please DON'T INCLUDE any specific spoilery reasons like names of characters or scenes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c6qENWh2jQ

This season of Doctor Who is so so good. Every episode is great. Can't wait for the next lot as well, every single one is going to be so much fun to watch along with you!

Chris Janes

A few episodes ago we were watching the Doctors daughter and mentioning how the actress, being Peter Davisons daughter is a real life daughter of the Doctor And now we have the son of the Doctor. The actor playing Professor Hobbes is David Troughton, son of Patrick Troughton, the 2nd Doctor

One of my favourite episodes! Just shows great storytelling and acting especially from David Tennant, I agree seeing The Doctor afraid gives me chills as he's always usually confident and brave but Donna comforting him instantly at the end of the episode is heartwarming but The Doctor at the end being traumatised to the point that he can't have fun with Donna over the repeating is sad. Great Reaction! Can't wait for next week. 😊❀️

I've been watching this episode for 16 years and just now realising the don't at the end is because Donna is mimicking him

A wonderfully unique episode, showing just what can be achieved with a well-cast group of actors in a confined space, without need for any monsters or CGI effects. The script is actually available at https://thescriptsavant.com/tv/Doctor_Who_4x10_-_Midnight.pdf and if you look at it you'll see that there are only 14 scenes (a normal episode has 60 or more), with one huge scene covering three-quarters of the whole: from the moment the Doctor comes back into the cabin after talking with the driver until the final expulsion of the creature, it's 49 pages of continuous action. It's so close to being a stage play, in fact, that in 2011 a group of Salford University drama students turned it into one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFmpAUzk6J8). By the way, the title on that script is "Series 4, Episode 8". It was a late decision to move it to after the Library two-parter; originally it was going to come before, and the vehicle was named the "Crusader 50" as a nod to the fact that it would have been the 50th episode of the revived Doctor Who series to be shown. It was also a very late substitution for another script being written for that slot that wasn't working out; when the decision was taken to replace it, Russell T Davies had to come up with this episode, from conception to completion, in less than a week. It was a stressful period, but the result was definitely a triumph.

In 2004. A planet was discovered 40 light years away. It's called 55 Cancri E, and - believe it or not - it appears to be made of diamond

Your wrap ups are always on point but this time you hit the nail on the head! Everything you said was spot on. The location/set being small and yet they're able to pack in so much story, fear and drama is just exceptional. I think this episode is an acting masterclass from all involved but especially The Doctor and Skye. Both of them repeating and copying one another is so impressive to watch, they don't skip a beat. It's such a masterclass in tv, filmmaking, acting, script work. I love this episode. I could truly write a dissertation on it and how we as humans faced with the unknown can panic and let fear take over us to the point of insanity. It's so interestign watching humans work in an echo chamber when they're scared. The next three episodes are going to blow your socks off, I'm so excited!

NNC

Yes! David Troughton, son of second Doctor Patrick Troughton. And brother of Michael Troughton who appeared in the 2014 Christmas special!

Jeremy B

One of the most disturbing episodes of Doctor Who. Essentially a one act play in a single setting which only makes it feel more claustrophobic. The exploration of ordinary’s people’s paranoia and just how quickly they can turn to violence and hatred is chilling. Brilliant writing and performance. That annoying thing that kids do when they repeat back everything you’re saying - turned into a creepy sci fi horror story! A classic. ps - the Doctor would never countenance sacrificing anyone if there was even a chance of saving them. pps - there was a line earlier in the episode about the airlock which explained how you could have opened the door briefly without getting sucked outside.

Jeremy B

Who was the true villain in this episode? The unknown entity, or the humans turning on Skye and the Doctor? You might be interested in the Doctor Who Confidential episode for this one (something to watch in your own time, no reaction required). It's a behind the scene's companion show, but the way they made this episode is absolutely fascinating. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1891ZNFBDfw Edit: Oh, and it's narrated by the one and only Anthony Stewart Head!

SeeJay

Doctor Who: makes us cry, laugh AND wet our pants. Lovely! ALL the emotions, ALL the time 🀣

Juliette Gaming

Fun fact. The actor that plays the professor, is the son of a previous Classic Who Doctor.

Daryl

So many scary episodes in a row πŸ˜‚ this one’s terrifying too and the library ones
