The Graxworm Megadungeon. The Graxworm itself is a massive dead dragon of mythic scale, fully miles long and large enough to contain a town in the mouth. Creatures have set up here to “mine” the massive corpse for its valuable materials – leather, scales, ichor, tendons, and more. Practically every bit has some value to someone, and in the long term the expectation is that nothing will remain, not even the massive bones.
This is a project that’s been languishing a bit, so I took the time to itemize what was needed to finish it off, and in the process, I produced this overview of the project as a whole. Each number on the map is one of the maps drawn for the point-crawl style space. So far maps 1 through 15 are done, leaving us with 16 through 20 to finish the whole project off.
The maps as they stand are:
Graxtown Gate
Graxtown
West Eye Temple
East Eye Orreries
Council Chambers
Throat Region Overview
Throat Barracks (not shown as it is in area 6)
Spinal Mine
Watch Tower Base
Watch Tower Upper Levels
Leg Gate Overview
Leg Gate Details
Industrial Facilities
Foundries Detail (not shown as it is in area 13)
Lungs Detail
The Corpsegaard (the heart of the beast, the great secret city of the Graxworm)
The Belly (continuation of area 13, plus some prisons)
Sevitor Quarters
Dungeons
The Tail
With this overview done, I look forward to starting 2025 off with a series of new Graxworm maps to bring this project to at least a temporary close (as a pointcrawl, new points of interest can be easily added as we go – areas that were only mentioned in passing getting their own maps and descriptions to increase the detail level of the megadungeon as a whole). That said, Map 17 may never come into being (as it is much like map 13), but that’s something we’ll see next year.
The Graxworm Megadungeon was proposed to me by Gallant Knight Games – a dungeon set within the corpse of a dragon some seven miles in length. If I were to map out the whole thing we’d be looking at a good 100+ maps, so instead we’ll be focusing on points of interest as a sort of “point crawl” megadungeon setting. We’ll be posting a few maps in the set every month for… well… quite some time!
