Modular dungeon tiles and animations (Cg Complete Pack)

My Dear Patrons,

the Dynamic Dungeons project was started two years ago with the goblin ambush map, and today, after hundreds of animated maps, more than 3000 of you are supporting my work, for which I am indescribably grateful.

Thanks for your continued financial support, kind comments, ideas and map suggestions, keep it up, post your ideas!

The modular pack that this reward contains was my dream from the beginning, which I have written to you about several times and now the first part is downloadable. There are more than 20 props and two animations in this pack for the CG tier level patrons.  Also, two examples of dungeons that I built using only these props.

An additional 100 props, various doors, traps, ruins, particle effects, animations and dungeon and cave pieces on various themes are in preparation.  A modular urban pack of homes with interiors and furniture will arrive next year.

Finally, you can build your own dungeon and make it live with animated pieces.

DD Editor and Player show its new side with this current pack, the possibilities are unlimited.

I made a help PDF of the Editor's features which you can find here:  https://drive.google.com/open?id=1w7k7MVJ2re402X_Q1PiGAsVfG5K00L5j

Get the complete pack from this shared folder:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1VgXsFInkZjGbW2y-XOHjera3OqkX0sIN

If you don't have the DD Editor and Player try it or buy here for 30 USD. If you don't need it, use the png props with your favorite VTT to build your own dungeon.

Thank you once again for your continued support everyone,
and I wish you an amazing new year filled with adventures!

Hi, I'd love to print out the How-To PDF, but it's light text on black and will consume all my blank ink. Would it be possible to create a printer friendly version of that PDF? Seems like it would be a great reference to have printed out while working in the editor.

And, I hit 'Enter' when I didn't mean to... Second: Running/Task Switching (MacOSX) -- The Player seems to tear down it's file handles and stop the processes running it when exited. The Manager and Editor, not so much. I've had to Force Quit these applications each time that I've used them. With one exception: When I run the Editor by itself without trying to Play the Story directly from it, it seems to shut down gracefully. MacOSX: High Sierra (10.3.6)

Great update and I'm a bit late to the party it seems. First: Upgrading/Updating Software (MacOSX) - it seems a bit archaic and crunchy doing updates. With 3.2.1 we got a nice clean install in the Applications directory (fit with our own DynamicDungeons sub directory to keep things clean). With 3.2.2 there were 3 seperate pkg files which need to be executed serially. Moreover, the default installation directory (/Applications) is chosen thereby rendering the uninstall.sh unusable. Perhaps I've missed it or have read over it in your instructions on how to effectively update the software. Again, these complaints are centered around the MacOSX build than Windows. It seems you've got the Windows build down nicely and would love to see the same sort of build/update nomenclature for MacOSX.

Is it possible to convert the .animation files back to a gif or preferably webm/mp4?

Hi, first of all, thank you for all the good work you're doing. It's just incredible. I just finished a session with my players where they had to explore a whole castle (4 floors of 4x4 scenes) that I made with the modular dungeons tiles. It was great but I noticed several problems. First in the conception : it's hard to connect the rooms with tilted walls to the straight walls even with passageways as they don't have the same perspective. The conception of big rooms is very time consuming as you need to add a lot of 4x4 tiles to cover the center of the room. I ended up recreating 9*9 tiles to be able to build those rooms faster. It would also be great to have the possibility to duplicate a whole scene in the editor. I had to reproduce several big rooms for my encounters and that was very time consuming. In use within the player, the software crashed several times because of the number of elements. I had to delete a lot of props to be able to play the maps without trouble. The animated torches and spiderwebs as well as the particles where probably causing that. That's a pity to have to delete those props to be able to play the maps. The motion of the animated props is what makes the maps really incredible. That was the technical part. Here are a few suggestions of animated props that would be great to add to the collection: as mentionned above, animated traps would be great (pits with pikes, snakes, poison, animated blades, arrows, poisoned darts or a rolling rock coming out of the wall, falling floor, fire, electrical, poison or ice traps, animated chests that releash poison, an explosion or a swarm of insects); animated secret passageways; animated levers and moving stones in the wall, that would open or trigger something; metal grids and portals; doors; an animated spider web cocoon where an adventurer has been traped; an opening coffin; an animated swarm of bats, rats or bugs; any kind of decoration for the walls : an extinguished torch, paintings (moving ones harry potter's style would be awesome), statues, weapon racks, shelves with potions, books, parchments, chains, magic portals, etc; barrels; animated ghosts and spirits; magic tiles with animated alchemic symbols on them. Stairs that would go up. The stairs we have would work that way if you put them in a corridor but if you just put them in a room to show that you can go upstairs then they look like you can just go downstairs. It would also be great to add the possibilty to link scenes that are not adjacent. For instance, I did put a runic circle at the end of a corridor and an other circle on an other scene. It was supposed to work as a runic portal that would teleport my adventurers. However, the two scenes were not next to each other so I could'nt just use a key to switch scene I had to search for the right scene. Another problem is that when you use the modular scenes with black background, all you can see in the interface is the background. This would allow us to build several floors on the same dynamic dungeon file by giving us the possibilty of linking ascending stairs with descending stairs. It would also be more practicle to have the props displayed on the general view of the scenes in the interface or a way to give a title to each scene that would appear in the interface.

This is fantastic!!!!!! Any chance you could do some tiles and props based on Curse of Strahd, so we can recreate Castle Ravenloft? I have full high res maps in color 1' per 5" so you can just edit those?

Mike Stanbridge

You're a god amongst men Tamas. In this realm as much as the fantasy world.

Hunter Armstrong

Awesome! Agree with Marc, chests and some other dungeon "furniture" would be lovely to have.

Justin Fletchall

Hello, i doesnt saw a comment about this topic. So im just asking. Will there be a DD Editor Version for Android?

Kai Tesch

Also, a prop pack of chests, tables, chairs, treasure, things like that would be incredibly useful. Animated doors too...

Love the new updates - however it's been a long time since I've worked with the dynamic dungeon editor, and I can't quite figure out how to bring up the prop menu to resize / rotate props - I've spent almost an hour fiddling with the editor trying to make it work - How do you do it?

That seems like an awesome idea! I know most of us who use DD are tinkerers by nature so it would be sweet to compile people's ideas in one convenient place. I'm already brainstorming effects and animations I think I'd like to take a crack at!

One more thing... Just an idea to throw out there. I know some fellow users out there will create some really cool animations. Hopefully, I can make one as well. Can there a be a database where users can add their creations so other users can download them to use. Like a user created library of .animation files?

Scott Trefts

Thank you. I have been wondering how to do this since the day I first bought the editor. I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one with that question.

Scott Trefts

Hey thank you so much! I can't wait to experiment with different animations! The monster idea sounds really cool id love to see how that would look.

The .animation is a file type for DD but I’ll open it for the community, so you’ll be able to convert any gifs and also short videos into animations if they’re converted to a png sequence before, then packed with a little app I’ll provide. There are also free tools out there that can convert videos into spitesheets and the tool I can share will pack them into .animation which gives better quality compared to gifs. A short, top-down view monster animation can be turned to a looping, good quality animated token using this method.

Dynamic Dungeons

Nice to see there are a few of us. Hopefully, we see more animation support in the future, as its one of my player's favorite things to see on the battle maps.

Same here. I wasn't able to get that reply neither from post nor mail but really looking forward to. Glad to know I'm not alone on this "quest" ;).

witwulf

I'm also curious about this. Do you know of any other animated props out there already existing we could add to the DD editor?

Kittrick Cuny

The pack I've been waiting for! One question if I may, Do you have a method of creating .ANIMATION (.animation) files and particle files? I've been using some MP4 files as extra magical effects, and while they work ok sometimes they flash green before restarting which can be distracting. Ive not been able to find much at all about the .animation and .particle file types and was hoping you could put me on the right path. Thanks again for being a great creator.

Do you have v. 3.2.1. installed? (Check the version number under the INFO menu of Editor. The prop folder should be in your userfolder/DynamicDungeons/editor/prop

Dynamic Dungeons

My version doesn't have a prop folder... do I need to DL a new version? If so where do I do that as a prior owner?

Water is Life

Awesome. Now worm-ends filled dirt tunnels :)

Ingo Nau

Typical D&D traps :) magic and mechanical

They’re coming, but I’m open for suggestions so don’t hesitate to share your ideas!

Dynamic Dungeons

Do you know what would be just great? Animated prop traps.

Thats what I have been doing to get the black screen.....every minute or so..

Only Player can loop the videos seamlessly. Save the story and click on “play this story” on the top right corner.

Dynamic Dungeons

Has anyone experienced a black screen every minute or so when playing a story from the editor? Anyone know of a work around?

I love all this content you've created and the tools you've given your community. The only thing I feel like you're missing is some oriental themed maps. You've covered most of my setting, lacking that. Any way that could be put to a map vote in the future? I would love to see your animations with a cherry blossom tree! Either way, I appreciate what you've created thus far and look forward to any and all content you put out. Thanks again!

Chance Knight

Thanks for the feedback. What kind of graphic card do you have? The prop folder is located in your userfolder/DynamicDungeons/editor/ not in the application’s folder.

Dynamic Dungeons

Hello, I keep getting the following error when I try to open the editor, manager or player application. Context3D not available! Possible reasons: wrong renderMode or missing device support. How do I resolve this? Also in your How to pdf, theres a prop folder that does not appear in the Dynamic Dungeons V3 folder, where do I find it?

Tyler

That's exactly what i was looking for! thank you very much ! I can't wait to see doors and traps coming !!

Thank you! Yeah, I checked Role’n Play and it’s amazing and professional. Keep it up! Thanks for the suggestions. All of these will be added for sure.

Dynamic Dungeons

Thanks, they’ll come soon.

Dynamic Dungeons

It's really superb, very ingenious, very simple. Thank you, great job. If there were constructive improvements to add, I would say that it lacks "prop" like an old skeleton, a well, a hatch, a chest, a throne, a pool of water, etc. We could make a list, and obviously that requires work, and not a snap of a finger. For the part of the walls and floors already existing, there is sometimes a concern of connection, callage between the walls, in particular for the rooms in connection with the corridors. But above all an improvement would be the texture of the walls and it's really superb, very ingenious, very simple. Thank you, great job. You have revolutionized my RPG games. What you do is known in France, we have a Youtube TV channel, like Critical role which is called Role 'n play, where sometimes they use your maps and thank the products used. This is how I got to know your work.

Mog Watt

Really cool! A 2x2 with a single wall attached and a 2x2 with corner walls would be helpful in creating custom sized rooms.

Have you read the step by step instructions? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1w7k7MVJ2re402X_Q1PiGAsVfG5K00L5j/view The video tutorial will be out early next year.

Dynamic Dungeons

When i open the editor i see nothing in the asset list, i use version 3.2. The package is in editor/prop. What did i miss ?

Adam Souquieres

Videos can be backgrounds in the current version, not props. “A big file of dungeon” you mean a large image? There is an image editor function which allows cropping a part of an image. Maximum supported resolution is 4096x4096.

Dynamic Dungeons

i want to buy it but can we add video and big files ?. i can t open on demo version. i wanted to use it to split big file of dungeon of blue medusa and to add your animated files too

keep it up! my players love your maps

Been here since near the start. Your work is amazing. I'm collecting everything and intend to teach my kids and introduce them to the world of D&D with these incredible upgrades we couldn't have imagined in my time. So much to look forward to. Thanks. Happy New Year to you.

Tony Quinn
