Having seen a Norden bombsight (unfortunately behind glass because of course it was), I'm quite convinced that one of the main reasons everyone was so convinced that it was bloody great is how technicool it looks, with all the knobs and the dials and whatnot.

Bombing runs weren’t being done from 6000’ up in calm clear weather at low speeds with nobody shooting at you, they were being done from four to five times that height, in whatever the weather happened to be, while being shot at.
