Millcross
Added 2025-11-20 00:43:34 +0000 UTCOutside the village limits, the peace and quiet of the Windmill Crossing has been a source of tranquility for the miller for some time. Here, he was able to find a calm respite from his dislike of the hustle and bustle of his neighbors, and could focus on his work.
In the spring, the herbalists would bring spices and remedies to be ground down into more usable form for cooking with the rabbits and doe the hunters brought home, or for the medicines the apothecary provides. During the early fall it was dried corn, to make meal for the livestock and beasts of burden.
Today, it was wheat. The farmers were nearly done with their labors, and the wagons of wheat came in as quickly as he could grind them. Then, off to the village for the baker, who the miller and farmer would soon visit for fresh bread to bring home to the family. Each of them depended on each other, and the labors each member provided creates a circular, symbiotic service to everyone's work.
Still, while they all were connected, each came to the mill, an unsung but critical part of every villager's journey in their quest to provide their goods for the benefit of all. The miller didn't mind the lack of praise, though, as the peace and quiet were their own rewards. Often the only noise was the creaking of the wooden gears and shafts in which the windmill turned, as he created something better for everyone in the most humble of ways.
